  1. ok gentlemen a big thanks to your replies and now not so worried about doing the job myself as had visions of stripping off outer skin and welding stiffener into place - turning out an easier weekend that what I envisaged TSSC forum to the rescue again Thanks Gordon Corbett
  2. woulld be obliged if anyone can tell me how to fit one as just discovered that my passenger door as not got one - piece of wood stuck at bottom to stop window disappearing. Had a look at previous items but did ot come across any advice Thanks Thanks the estimator
  3. Thanks for all help given - local sail repairer has had a look at hood and taking on the work so thanks again for all the replies Gordon
  4. OK Pete - Sorry have been away dealing with family funeral and while away the firm that was to sort my hood (new windows) cancelled on me (diff entry) When I come back this weekend will check all available advice (was not aware of letters and numbers on diff) In meantime thanks to you all that answered Gordon Corbett

  6. Hi to you all - windows appear to welded/stitched into hood and they are split along bottom join. Know of any firms that repair hoods Thanks Gordon
  7. Sorry should read form not form -lack of proof reading Gordon
  8. Does anyone know of a form that will replace the side windows on my hood - vitesse mk 2 Thanks Gordon
  9. Thanks Scrapman Will contact my local vauxhall garage and get them to check the rpm BUT also going to try out previous suggestions as well> For info the engine gearbox chassis numbers all match the DVLA/Heritage info so hence of the opinion that most likely that parts of an earlier herald/vitesse used Thanks again for all help given
  10. Hi Pete etc etc Thanks for all the advice given but will get gearbox cover off and try and check the ratio. With regards to the dizzy it was a new dizzy from the club along with a new cable and already have swapped the rev counter and while his runs almost 1000 revs slower in his it jumps up to 4000 revs at 50 when in mine and my rev counter in his runs at slightly less that 3000 revs so hence reason i am not looking at rev counter Going to follow some of the advice given - because not an exchange unit sellers are asking around the £800 price which is outwith my pension Thanks again for all help given
  11. Thanks Pete but no mini wheels - when that car was renovated by a Halifax they replaced most of the parts with Herald parts ie dizzy, fuel pump, brakes etc etc but confirmed that it is the original engine according to the DVLA /Heritage sheet so really the car is as normal apart frpm slow/noise etc etc but will check out ideas given first week Thanks once again
  12. Pete Yes rev counter showing 3.55:1 and no the clutch is not slipping. The car drives very good and is responsive : when ttravelling from shows and sitting at 50mph (con via sat nav) the revs are just over 4000 and engine sounds as if should be going faster. Last trip I had vitess saloon in front sitting at 50 for few miles - his revs were short of 3000 and mine 4000 + Thanks once again and will check all answers out
  13. Johns New cable runs of a new dizzy I got from the club and was running at same revs before changed the above Gordon
  14. Thanks and I do live in the north - when travelling at 50 mph my rev counter is showing just over 4000 revs and this has been verified and drivers of vitesse at car shows confirm that they rev below 3000 at 50mph. Will accept any ratio as long as the diff is right for a vitesse mk2. Will also check out chic dog Thanks for all help given as I am a doddery 70 yr old but enjoy the vitesse so much 1540 hrs Speedo checked via satnav and is ok and my mate that has a mk 2 saloon tried his rev counter and readings showing the same as my own in my car over 4000 revs at 50mph. Thanks for all excellent replies and will try and have ratio checked via John's way Thanks
  15. Thanks and I do live in the north - when travelling at 50 mph my rev counter is showing just over 4000 revs and this has been verified and drivers of vitesse at car shows confirm that they rev below 3000 at 50mph. 16. Following info from Dave Rumens I have discovered that during a build in 2007 a Herald diff was put into my Mk 2 Vitesse and now I am wondering if there is any other diff with 3.27 ratio that will fit as when I try and purchase an exchange one the sellers are not interested in a herald diff and want be to buy outright.(750 to 1000).. I live in the North of Scotland but willing to travel to pickup the correct diff> Thanks Gordon Corbett
  17. I have two header rails for the soft top but the little arms that come of the rail are all at different angles and my question is - What is the correct angle or the size of the gap between header rail and arm ?? Thanks Gordon
  18. Pete and HERALD948 Thanks for your replies and thought it was a body tub number but only approx 3500 vitesse convertibles were made so unable to tie that in BUT possibly a Herald tub will match in as a lot of other parts would also have been off a herald which caused no end of problems at the start but the old vitesse is slowly coming back to what it should be performance and looking like Thanks again Gordon Corbet
  19. Triumph Vitesse Mk 2 - have found on drivers side attached to bulkhead a small plate with the number 204055 GAT stamped on it - what does this refer to ? possibly when car was resprayed this plate was also resprayed insitu as we have a different body colour underneat Thanks Gordon C
  20. John Thanks for all your info and yes will buy a multimeter - just to put into the mix when following previous advice I touched the low voltage line from the dizzy to the coil and it came away in my hand so have repaired it and that seems to have made a difference as last sat went 50 + miles for car show and no problems but as I have stated I HATE electrics on a car - will still check out all advice given and thanks to all you guys for advice Gordon
  21. John Thanks for that and will check earth connections on Monday as got car show tomorrow but taking fully charged battery with me incase of problems - not electrical minded so all help given will be acted on. Thanks gordon
  22. Clive and Pete Thanks for your replies - and thanks for advice re pulley. Ref the battery have tried other batteries and still have the problem Ref the control box - check under dash sometime ago and the black control box is no longer in place but a pile of wires - did have a problem with engine not starting but was traced to a bad ignition joint which has been repaired. Will try the diodes of the alternator but as usual when you buy new you expect them to work so that is why I discounted the alternator Thanks again and will try diodes later today as have a car show tomorrow Gordon
  23. Mk 2 Vitesse fitted with an alternator and when engine starts the ignition light dims but does not extinguish but with headlights on ignition light gets dimmer but still not extinguised. New alternator fitted two months ago but someone suggested that I need a bigger crankshaft pulley but unable to find advice on what size or if that is the problem and if not would be able to steer me in right direction. Flat battery every 2/3 weeks and this has a;so be renewed Thanks Gordon
  24. thanks for advice given and must be a earthing problem as both horns work just not together as all I get is a grunt from front of car but as soon as either of the horns is disconnected we have noise Gordon
  25. Have a MK 2 Vitesse convertible and my problem is that the horns work independently but when both wired at same time I just get a grunt from the horn push - where am I going wrong Thanks Gordon Corbett
