  1. I always wave when out in the Vitesse, and generally get waves back from all Triumphs and others. Not so often from Morgans but I guess they perhaps consider their cars modern, or from pre-war cars. My everyday drive is and Alfa 159, and I give the 'Alfa wave' to others. Usually get a thumbs up from 159, 156, and sporty or older models, but not so much the Mito or Giulietta drivers.

  2. Update time. Just got my Vitesse back from Dave Saunders at Triumph Spares near Worcester. MOT passed after a bit of fettling and now fitted with new alternator and Powerlite High Torque starter which seems to have resolved the poor ignition issues above. Carbs all set up nicely and running very well, although they will require a refurbish in due course. So a great job there. Had the engine compression tested too and all is fine in that area.

Thanks for all the advice and 'pearls' of wisdom though.

  3. Hi All,

My Mk2 Vitesse has been garaged over winter. Started up a couple of times (although not easily) and have been for a couple of runs out. Also resolved a problem with the electronic ignition. However now a total lack of oil pressure after turning the starter a few times and failure to start completely! Any ideas what the problem might be?

    Thanks,

  4. Hi

Went for a spin in my Mk2 Vit this afternoon. Strange noise when engaging OD. I've noticed it before and its difficult to describe - sounds like a 'fluttering' or the sound paper makes when you tear it! Intermittent, tending to come on under acceleration though. I'm guessing electrical? Any ideas please. Thanks.

  5. My Mk 2 Vitesse was failing to start after a couple of months laid up in the garage end of the year. Turns out to have been the electronic ignition failing and the chap who looks after my car has returned it to points etc. before Christmas. Just wondering if it is worth reverting back to the electronic ignition set-up. Apparently the kit someone installed was at the cheaper end of what is on the market and these are prone to fail. What are the pros and cons of each points/electronic and any kits to look out for at the higher price range that are worth having - I believe the Club Shop sells them.

    Thanks,

  6. Hi Mike,

I've not done the journey in my Vitesse, but have from Worcester for holidays in the modern (Alfa 156) to France. Pretty swift to Portsmouth on A417/419/A34 etc. 2 hours tops and Pompey is a bit more interesting than Dover if you set off a bit earlier. Good crossing to Le Harvre, worth getting a cabin though if overnight, then a nice drive via RN to Brittany. I think there is a speed crossing that cuts the time from about 6 to 4 hours if I recall. Cuts out a 4 hour slog down to Dover and overnight stop en Francais.

    Cheers,
