  1. The car does look low at the back, you mentioned a Canleys spring, does it have a lowering block or maybe a swing spring from a Spit/GT6 which IMHO is no good on a Vitesse?. Steve
  2. I have an electric pump so it should fill the chambers quickly, but still a fair bit of cranking before it fires, the new Gates hose has helped. Steve
  3. Replaced all of mine on the Vitesse a few weeks ago with Gates from the Club Shop,( I need more for my Herald). I had an old braided section from the pressure regulator to the carbs, it was very soft and drawing in air as it took ages to start after a short layup. Anyone know a reliable source now?. S
  4. Yes the ignition lamp is behaving normally, although it reminded me that when I installed the electronic speedo etc, it came with no lamps so I made a bracket to go under the dash and installed 10mm Led`s for the ignition, oil and high beam lamps, the ignition light went out but needed a higher blip of the throttle to make it go out, fine once moving. I recently changed the lamps back to filament lamps as It looks neater. I will do the other checks this weekend. From memory the alternator is an 18ACR I think. Steve
  5. What a coincidence, both my cars have BMC Green engines, Have you looked at Halfords Wheel Silver for the rocker box?. Steve
  6. It's been on there about 10 years and it only started playing up recently, and it is definitely accurate as far as speed goes, or was. S
  7. Voltage was tested with my work Avo meter, not a fluke one just generic. The prop is a sensor mounted on a home made bracket on the back of the overdrive, it's adjusted to less than 3mm from the prop bolts as they pass, I guess I could check the o/d mount for movement as the modern ones do fall apart but I haven't noticed movement from the gearstick. I was worried the alternator has spiked the tacho causing it to fail, it works but under reads and won,t go over 2k, tickover is zero on the tacho. I thought an alternator supplied a constant voltage without variation of revs? Speedy cables will test them if I send them back to Wales. Steve
  8. Hi Dave, can`t help with the engine alignment as no experience of GT6`s but someone will be along. I used to know a chap with a triple SU conversion on a Spit 6, Bruce. My Vitesse has Goodparts roller rockers, and an SAH rocker cover with the sloping front but they are silly money if you can find one. Steve
  9. Looks great Dave, lots of bling going on, where did the timing cover come from?, with all that bling are you going ali rad?. I have a 2.5 Vitesse that went back on the road around 2010, I don`t know how old you are, I am 59 next week and recently been thinking I don`t use it enough so I would encourage you to get it on the road Asap. I`m planning an exit from working in London so I have more free time. Steve
  10. My 2.5 Vitesse has a Saloon gearbox with o/d. Due to space around the chassis rails I converted to electronic Speedo and Tacho when I put the engine in (bought from Speedy cables in Wales). The tacho works from the coil and the speedo has a sensor that counts prop rotations, recently when driving the speedo starts bouncing around intermittently, on two occasions recently the tacho has gone to zero for about a minute before returning. On Sunday on a run down the coast, it went to zero before coming back, it now seriously under reads revs never going over 2K. I was fitting a new Canleys ali o/d gear knob today (nice bit of kit) and I thought I would test the battery voltage. It was 13.04 on tick over and rose to 13.70 when increasing the revs, I`m guessing the revs as the tacho is under reading as previously mentioned but it ticks over at about 900. Could this be a sign of the regulator dying?, I wondered if it may have spiked damaging the speedo and tacho?. Alternator is a Lucas one about ten years old. Opinions appreciated. Steve
  11. Me too but unfortunately not voluntarily. S
  12. U Unlikely, He`s more likely to move them in next door to you. S
  13. If your feeling flush?. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176501867179 Steve
  14. If they are reasonably scratch, dent and tow bar hole free then probably worth the money. S
  15. My daughter works in a building that overlooks the runway at Heathrow, she sent me these yesterday, amazing. Airbus Beluga (Whale) cargo plane. Steve
  16. That explains the Grey one I have in my shed, which came off my 13/60 when I acquired it, replaced with a powder coated white one I got from E bay with a new hood as well. S
  17. I have the Uniroyals on my Herald, happy with how they perform. Vitesse has aged Pirelli`s so may be due a change. Steve
  18. I was told a story two weeks ago by a work colleague. His daughters partner works for his father, who has 2 GT6`s. One evening while having a meal with him before the 2 youngsters go travelling he told him the story. One evening perusing E bay whilst well lubricated, he came across a GT6 MK 1 project for sale in Devon. It had been in a barn for over 30 years. He put a starting bid of £500 on it and went to bed. Next morning he got the mail saying he won it and arranged collection with the elderly lady owner. When he arrived she told him her and her late husband had owned it from new and had bought it off the stand at the Earls Court show after the launch. He thinks it is Number 1. Another on of the 5?. S
  19. Actually Pete is right (as usual), makes more sense for an HS4 on a 12/50, looks like the carbs on my 1500 herald now you mention it. S
  20. London has floated the idea of charging EVs per mile to make up some of the lost revenue from ICE`s, they`ll probably have another faux consultation as they did with ULEZ, they already have the infrastructure, and then do exactly what they want anyway, and not just EV`s, coming to a town near you soon, the next money grab. I would charge Prius`s a million pounds a mile. S
  21. Probably easier to get one from a scrap tub? Ask Chic Doig, he may know of one. He used to make a lot of panels. www.chicdoig.co.uk Steve
  22. Going by the size of the dashpot that isn`t an HS2, more like an HS6 which would be 1 3/4 inch at the inlet or a more modern version like an HIF. Could well be Marina as that says for HS6 in Johny`s image. Steve
  23. I have the Canleys kit on both my Herald and Vitesse, no brainer for me when rebuilding the front ends, cost imho is reasonable for a decently engineered piece of kit. And I run the cost through my business so I get the Vat back. This winters job is to CV the Herald. I have all the bits ready to go. Steve
  24. Could be balance between the 2 carbs not quite right, or air getting past the butterflies, also butterflies the wrong way round or not closing properly. S
  25. Fuel prices are going to shoot up here as the stalinist government are removing the fuel duty freeze. S
