You'd probably be ok going over the Dartford crossing rather than round past the closure, I live near the closure and it's been chaos on the other weekends.

I have a TriumphTune uprated decambered spring on my MK 1 CV converted Vitesse, it handles like a Go cart. Bought from Terry Hurrell in about 1988.
Not sure you would find one now though but could be copied I guess.

Anyone see The Footage Detectives on TPTV yesterday?.
They had an interesting film about British Leyland including the Earls Court motor show where they were launching the TR6. the then Chairman was talking about how they had taken over Standard Triumph and and BMC etc and saying they were 80-90% of all the cars sold in the UK , and were looking forward to the emerging competition from the likes of VW and Datsun. Wonder how that went??.

My Vitesse had a poor heater, I took all of it apart, lubricated the fan motor and put a new control valve and flushed the matrix. Then tested the switch and found it was really intermittent. Found a NOS one on e bay for £15 and fitted that, bingo, fan much faster and heater warmer.
Not that it matters much in a CV but it did help when I was driving it in January with the roof down at -1 degrees.

Thermostat won't make any difference to temperature or the gauge reading other than maybe dropping a bit when it opens.Is the engine actually running hot?.
A digital thermometer can tell you.
Senders also give quite variable readings because of the differing resistance of the modern offerings.
I changed from waterless back to water/antifreeze when the whole lot gummed up the waterways due to contamination,it turned to jelly.

I had a Pug 408 Estate GT170 which was a great quick car but at 170K it kept going into limp mode and actually cut out completely at 70mph on the A3M towards Portsmouth once, it was the EGR system, sold it on E bay as it wasn`t worth fixing.

I think the definition of Classic car is definitely changing, when I see a Tesla at one I will give up.

I had a Spit FH 1300 engine and single rail O/D box in my 13/60 until I changed to a 1500 with the same gearbox used, and a 3:63 diff for good measure.
Don`t remember any faff when fitting either.

I sold my rebuilt really quick modified 1275 Mini in 1985, it disappeared of the records in 1986. I often wonder what happened to it, maybe due to rubbish MK 1 Cooper discs that were worse than drums for fade.

I went out in my 13/60 CV today, bit chilly on the hands.
I check it over myself regularly and restored it in 2013 but noticed today it needs 2 back tyres, not worn out but tread cracking and age related I suspect. The tyres not me.
I`m for MOT checks as my local garage owner trained at Stratstones Jaguar and has been operating for 50 years, It will be a sad day when he retires as I suspect the place will close and get developed for B***dy student accommodation.

Not sure many Herald owners will be doing bedding in from 90mph to 30mph, it would take a week.

No experience of a Herald with Mintex but I put 1144`s on my Vitesse and it was a big improvement on whatever was on there.
I put 4 pots on my 13/60 with Mintex pads and they are even better.

Mazda gearboxes has been done, don`t know which model though.

In which case a Heritage certificate would be a good thing as it can tell you when it came off the line and where it went hopefully.

Sorry to disagree Pete but I did my 2.5 Vitesse and if you don`t want the mechanical speedo with the angle drive it isn`t much of a job at all.
Minor modifying of the lip around the inner chassis rails. If you want the speedo with angle drive then yes major work, I just made a small bracket that bolted to the back of the overdrive and points a sensor from Speedy cables in Wales and reads the prop rotations, had an original looking speedo and rev counter made at the same place and it works a treat, easy to calibrate as well. Even used the original non O/D mounting plate.
Gearstick comes out in the same place as well so standard gearbox cover fitted fine. As for ratios, 1st is quite short but because of the grunt from the 2.5 engine I could probably pull away in 3rd. 70 MPH is 2800 rpm in O/D 4th and will go up any hill easily. Gets scary above 90mph.
It has a 3:27 diff and CV conversion.

What about the big saloon boxes?,
can't be as fragile surely,that's what I have in my Vitesse.
But it is Triggers broom in other respects.

I had one made by Bailey Morris and it`s a fair bit smaller diameter to the original,He assured me it could take the considerable torque of my 2.5 Vitesse.
It also has larger (100mm) flanges.

Don`t know if you have a DAB radio, but on my Vitesse I fitted a classic looking DAB with an aerial converter so I could retain the telescopic aerial, battery started draining and I narrowed it down to the aerial converter dragging the battery down slowly, changed the wiring to a switched feed and all ok.
