Searching for a Vitesse Mk2 Estate which I owned in the 1990's
Steve P replied to Simon Taylor's topic in General
Last Mot shoes as 2018 so maybe in a garage somewhere or the owner hasn't bothered due to the exemption. Not many originals around, someone will know.Presumably a Park Royal conversion?. Steve -
Yes they are fused links, I won`t be removing those, It`s the first plate and the joint to the battery terminal which seems to be the one that fails. The dodgy connection is probably why the radio cuts out so If I remove and clean the fuse links I hope that will fix that. As I said the fault is very common with these models. I guess like Triumphs they were designed to last a certain period before you buy another car. I`ve never been like that and keep them until they die. S

Or it can be the butterflies not seating against the carb body when closed, or worn spindles. S

The car has an issue where the radio cuts out now and again, probably due to a related issue with the fuses bolted to the bus bar.To me the first connection from the battery post is un-necessary.BTW that image is off the net not my car but it`s the same.. I am going to strip it all off and clean and grease as suggested. I don`t think it gets any road spray, it`s in a plastic box with a cover anyway. Steve

When I roughed them up with sandpaper they did appear copper coloured below the surface finish,it seems to be first bolt to the main bar that loses conductivity. Also they are quite thin plates. S

Just recently thinking about replacing the non standard belt on my Vitesse as it`s been on there 10 years and is looking decidedly crusty. Saved and Thanks S

Opinions appreciated. My daughter has an Astra J from 2011.It has what I think is a daft design of connection to the battery and all electrical systems, the positive battery terminal and two metal plates. See Image. Intermittently but annoyingly she sometimes gets in and turns the key..no power or lights on the dash. The connection between the 2 metal plates and the battery is lost and I have to take them off and clean them before service is resumed. my plan is to remove the old battery clamp and the first plate and replace it with a pre-made 300 amp lead with a battery clamp on one end and an eyelet on the other to connect the fuses. What do the experts think?. BTW this a very common fault on this model. Steve

Today Tesla announced a recall of 2 Million (!) cars to rectify an issue with the Auto Pilot software which caused a number of them to crash. Wonder why they can`t do that with an OTA update. S

I had the same message a while ago, never knew why but it corrected itself the next day. Now I know. Steve

Not even a hack, get ready for when the powers that be decide to restrict speed or control any of the above. Sinister?...it`s coming. My neighbour has an MG electric thing (Chinese), he says they are now the UK`s most popular EV.I work in the tech sector and can already see the changes. S

Have a chat with Dale at Moordale motors in Potters Bar, he has years of experience of our cars and could probably do the bodywork as well as sort out your engine issues. http://www.triumph-car-restoration.uk.com/ Steve

GT6 Mk3 only runs well with VERY advanced timing. Any ideas why?

I had my 2.5 Vitesse setup for optimum performance on a rolling road, much easier. It returned 172BHP. That`s why it snapped a driveshaft. S -
Try Wins for good second hand parts. https://www.winsinternational.co.uk/ S

Interesting point earlier about why we buy our classics. My parents both had Hillman estates when I was young, a Minx and a Hunter, my first 2 cars were both Mini`s. That was after a run of bikes starting with a Suzuki AP50 then a Yamaha DT175MX and a Honda Super dream 400. I rebuilt the second MINI and put a 1293 engine in it, went like a rocket but had terrible 997 Cooper discs which were worse than drums. I sold that and bought my Vitesse in 1985 and still have it. Its a bit Triggers broom as I didn`t really look over it properly because it needed a ground up resto. The mini isn`t listed on the Gov.uk since 1986 so the new owner must have wrecked it.(Nothing to do with crap brakes). As to Colins point about people not being onto them any more, do what I do and drive to the seaside, mostly inhabited by people of a certain generation that remember them, always get loads of people commenting when I go there. I went out in my Vitesse on Sunday with the roof off and it was -1 degrees, bracing I`d say. Next local show is Brooklands New Years Day which normally gets 1000 attendees. Steve

Radius Arm Dimensions GT6 Early Mk3
Steve P replied to Stratton Jimmer's topic in Chassis, Suspension & Steering
No shims on mine, when I converted my Vitesse to Roto/CV the slight adjustment of toe required was done by the tie bar adjuster ,it is minimal so I cant see it stressing the bushes. I had to drill the outrigger as the tie bar bracket is further inboard than the MK 1. Steve -
It is a shame this is no longer allowed, can`t think what implications this has for data protection tracing old owners. I did this back in the 90`s and managed to find the first owner of my Vitesse from 1970 living in Shropshire. I found him because he had an unusual name. I wrote to him politely asking if he was connected to the car and he phoned me shortly after confirming it was his. We spoke for about an hour and he was delighted to know it was still on the road, his wife even asked to buy it back. S

I have a pair in my shed I intended to use on my Herald CV conversion, just measured one at 17.5 inches, but that maybe wound out more than normal. I bought them from e bay so no idea of origin. When I converted my Vitesse MK 1 to CV I remember having to mount them in a different position on the rear outrigger. The ones in my shed have the angled ends as per that drawing. Bugger. S -
I used a length of 2"x 2" wood to press the pedal while I'm at each wheel when I did my Herald recently. Easy in CV car. Couldn`t get a seal on the master Cylinder with the Eezi-bleed I bought so I binned it. S

I used Dynaliner for my Vitesse, not so much for heat but it's definitely a lot quieter. Steve

Ghengis Khan won`t follow suit in London, he doesn`t care about the people as has been shown by the recent report into the ULEZ showing that he misled people (lied) about the evidence and consequence of it. S
-
Going by the wiring pics there`s a good chance he will find at least one of those on the car somewhere. (except the bolt). S

Your + battery cable looks like it has poor connectors both ends as well, and I would want to know where that 2 core flex goes before disturbing anything. Steve
-
Yes because you have to convert to Mk2 roto setup so the shaft isn't part of the suspension, you could still snap a shaft I guess but you wouldn't lose a wheel as I did.Thats on a Mk 1 Vitesse obviously. S

Should have said, nice car, I have a 68 2L Mk1 purchased in 1985 from High Wycombe for £700. My kids can sell it when i croak. S
