  1. Talking to Dave at Canley he won't sell the quiet version as he says the front silencer has about 3mm gap either side to the chassis and so tends to rattle really badly. So I am back to either the Phoenix basic single large bore or the Phoenix twin wheelbarrow version. Any thoughts on which of those two would be the less noisy? Dave also mentioned he didnt like the wheelbarrow type due to possible ground clearance issues.
  2. Looking at the Phoenix system at Rimmers https://rimmerbros.com/ItemSearch--search-Phoenix-1500--srcin-1 they have a large bore single box system that has a "quiet" option - as suggested above it has a central silencer on the main pipe as well as the back box. Sounds like a good option (especially if the Bell systems are as loud as people have said) and would prefer the single rear box as not a huge fan of the 'wheelbarrow' look. Only issue is the system is £650 rather than £500 for the Bell semi-sport & manifold from the club shop!
  3. Thanks to all. Sounds like I need a central silencer to calm things down, but Angie in club shop talked to Bell exhausts and they said it was too difficult with the semi sport back box and tubular manifold.Rogerguzzi do you know where you got your central silencer box?
  4. I have a 1979 Spitfire 1500. Looking for a stainless steel manifold + exhaust system that opens the exhaust out a little, sounds nice without being noisy, and doesn't look too boy racery. Can anyone make suggestions of setups they have tried? Thanks
  5. Thanks. Clive, do you know if you are referring to Canley's big bore single box sports exhaust or the stainless steel rear box with twin exit?
  6. My 1979 Spitfire 1500 needs a new exhaust and I want to open it up slightly and get a nice tone without it being too noisy or racey looking. The semi sport system that the club shop offers seems to fit the bill but I would much rather use a 4-2-1 s/s manifold instead of the awful cast iron one. The problem is that the s/s manifold from the shop is not directly compatible with the bell semi-sport system apparently. It needs some fettling. Has anyone done this and if so what would it require? Otherwise are there any other suggestions? I see that Rimmer Bros do a sports system with single back box and manifold which seems close. Unfortunately it is £700! Thankx
  7. I have a Spitfire 1500 stripped to a bare chassis and have bought Gaz adjustable rear shocks from the club shop. Unfortunately I am a bit stumped about fitting them. The old shocks attach at the top to the end of the chassis rear tower with a very fat set screw, and at the bottom to the thinner attached set screw on the vertical link. The Gaz shocks however have a large bush hole at the top and a thin bush hole with metal sleeve at the bottom, that is too small for the vertical link set screw. That is assuming that they are mounted with the wording Gaz the right way up and the adjuster knob on the shocks at the bottom. If that is true, then the top would fit fine to the big set screw, but the bottom won't fit the vertical link set screw???????
