  1. HI all, so back to the original question 2021 about a decent replacement 1500 Spit column indicator switch as mine is now intermittenter than ever and a sure MoT fail ... A popular Triumph supplier offers a new RHD option, anyone had experience of this as the only Lucas ones I can find are LHD .. I ask as some years ago had a similar switch failure on a GT6 Mk3 and was supplied with a new (aftermarket ..non-UK ?) one which fell to bits in less than a month, fortunately the supplier then remembered they had a few Lucas units available and after fitting problem solved (why didnt they send that 1st time). Also can someone advise which Mini switch/Part. No. is the possible alternative fit ? thanks
  2. Yes think its something internal in the switch, probably bad contacts - get variable ohmmeter readings across the terminals when turning the key to run and start positions. Hopefully possible to remove & dismantle then .. thanks. Alan
  3. Hi all, anyone know if its possible to replace the switch, which is working intermittently, without faffing around removing the steering lock (which works fine) ?? Thanks.
  4. Thanks Richard, i managed to find a bit of time to browse in more detail earlier today and the Dolomite forum had some info on VIN numbers (which don't necessarily match engine no's apparently) and my engine is probably late 70's .. http://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=29700 may still contact BMHT to confirm as youre right some sort of proof would be needed to date the engine for MoT's. Cheers, Alan.
  5. HI all, have a sprint engine VA21980 - looking to date it so i know whether it'll be subject to MoT emissions regs Post-1975 or if its an earlier lump. Any help appreciated !!
  6. OK thanks Pete. Its gotta come out one way or the other so hope a good clean up will do the job.
  7. Hi all, this is a Sprint engine with the pre-engaged starter - got the car 2 years ago and occasionally the starter would stick without turning the engine; usually ok if doing the usual rocking to and fro in gear. Never had a problem once warmed up and still fine. Now it needs attention as it rarely turns on a cold engine and rocking doesnt always work - lucky the garage has a long slope outside !!. I suspect a solenoid contact issue, hoping not ring gear .. anyone got experience of similar problems & solution ? Cheers, Alan.
  8. I sold my GT6 7 years ago for £1850 (no zero missing ..) and paid the same 2 years later for my Vit ... I'm having a bit of trouble fitting it under my mattress though .. asking prices are indeed getting silly and preventing real enthusiasts getting a foothold
  9. When i got my Spit there was a tiny bit of play in the steering which soon became excessive and definite MoT fail. Didnt bother looking at the steering joint, but having had this problem before on past Triumphs, got a set of polybushes ... of course the joint wasnt an original but the rubbish type with the O-rings just squashed between the centre plate and spline (who thought this would work ??) so polybushes dont fit !! As i needed the car on the road the next day i got the UJ type sent by Canleys, this fitted ok but was a bit harsh with alloy rack mounts which i dont want to change. Not to be defeated i got an engineer friend to modify the old joint so i could fit the polybushes so hopefully this is a fit & forget solution. Alan.
