  1. many thanks for the prompt feed back. Its something that has bothered me for a while and just never got round to putting it into print. I agree the best method would be to resposition the fan or turn the fan around rather that swop the wires. Thanks again guys, enjoy the rest of you BH w/e
  2. I fitted an electric fan some time ago and have had no problems so far. However, the fan is fitted on the front of the radiator and draws air through the radiator away from the engine is this correct? When the car is in motion do you think the fan would be rotating by virtue of the air passing over the blades? if this is the case the fan would be rotating in the opposite direction to when it is electrically driven. Would there be a likelyhood that the fan may cut in during this scenario? comments would be much appreciated.
  3. I was just so pleased that I had resolved the problem. so easy to trace, +ve voltmeter on brown connection on alternator, -ve on body of alternator = 14.4volts reading . connect earth to engine 12.46 volts. It was as you say a Simpson moment lmao
  4. Thanks to you all for the feed back. The problem is now resolved, the alternator was not grounded to the engine. Moral of the story is "if you have a problem start with the last thing you did" I removed the alternator to replace the belt and PAINTED some parts therby isolating the alternator Thanks again.
  5. Thank you for the reply. I thought the alternator would be ok if it produced 18V, and further thought that the issue was somewhere in the wiring, no? If i see 18v between brown and earth why dont i see it across the battery?
  6. Hi, I have started my GT6 MK3 after a long lay up. Engine runs well even tho the carbs require sorting. Problem: alternator is not charging the battery. Engine running, I have disconnected the wires at the alternator and I get 18 volts between the large brown terminal and earth. Reconnected I get 12.46V across the battery terminals. Other symptoms: Ammeter shows negative 1 amp Fuel gauge reads zero (tank is half full) Ignition light just manages to glow prior to starting then goes out when engine is running. Engine stopped: Multimeter between the brown termainal and positive terninal on the solenoid shows a connection Battery is new and recharged, after running the engine for about 20 mins the battery requires a full charge which told me somethings wrong in the first place. I have purchased a Voltage stabilizer in anticipation. Any help would be appreciated, thanks for reading this John
  7. This is currently fitted to a GT6 MKIII if that makes any difference. the angle is only about 10-15 degrees approx Regards John
  8. I have inadvertantly fitted a manifold with the inlet flanges angled upwards. I think the triumph saloon had these. I have over hauled the carbs and fitted them. My question: will the angle effect the operation of the carbs? floats etc. Is there a soloution apart from sourcing the correct manifold? I thought of machining the carb flanges to suit the faces fitted to the head, this would eliminate the problem but the studs in the flange would remainslightly angled. Any help would be appreciated.   9. I have extended the LHS of my GT6 MK3 dashboard to include a glove box door, using a door and surround from another Triumph. The finished product is very similar to some other Triumphs. However, I now have to find the inner surround to complete the finished product. Is there an off-the-shelf inner to suit, or will it have to be bespoke? Any ideas would much appreciated.

  11. I'm glad they don't have to fit, I don't think my patience would last to secure both ends of the boot. Thanks for the help guys.
  12. 1973 GT6. Thank you for the reply. The end of the boot has a grove in it which just looks so right to be fitted through the metal frame IMO, hence the question Regards
  13. After what I think was a brake master cyl leak after long period of storage I'm rebuilding both the clutch and brake master cylinders and repainting the localised area. The rubber boots are the type that cover the linkage completely. My question is one end of the boot fits into the horizontal slot in the steel shelf. The other has a groove which makes it look like it should fit through the metal frame the cylinder is bolted too. I didn't assemble it this way and cant get it to fit this way now. Is this the correct or incorrect method of assembly? Thank you
  14. I have an opportunity to change to CDs from CDSE, is it worth while are there any benefits? has anybody tried before? are all 150 Strombergs interchangeable? thank you
  15. i tried veneering my own dash, but couldn't get the finish i wanted, i ended up sending it away, i choose burr walnut. If you want any details Pm me and ill dig out the photos and the name of the company.

  18. Good morning from a newbie, but GT6 owner since 1986-87 In 2002 I had my triumph GT6 sprayed BRG. The braked fluid reservoir has leaked while in storage requiring a local repair. I do not have a paint code how can I track down the correct code and colour? I have some thumb sized paint flakes that have peeled off as a result of the oil, which may have absorbe some brake fluid I purchased touch up Rover 1993 Brooklands BRG, it's a very very close match , but I need to be sure. Any assistance would be gratefully received.
