  1. welcome to the mad house , if youre low on hands on stick to a base car , a modified will give you all the why what who when problems arise, start with a IV or 1500 and get to know it , pete
  2. Well now theres two pair of fan*y stretchers available It was the girls on the track who named them Pete
  3. im not sure how trunionless sphericals seal against the arduos rigours of ever day road dirt and mileges wasnt the initial design was for race not road theres a different longevity Its all down to preference or love em or hate em When the winter bug goes i may think the opposite Pete
  4. There are three pronged grommet expander pliers ( in the factory they were called fa**y stretchers sorry about that )to aid fitting grommets over terminals etc but wont help on an installed harness So slitting is the most likely method , unless youre a magician Pete
  5. Agast i have visions of Clive in his curlers Pete
  6. There is nothing to line up it could be its had grease put in at some time and this has blocked the oilway There is a hole runs from the grease nipple down te centre of the upright thread this fills the trunnion to make it a oil bath Try some good hard pumping may get some trhough failing that you need to remove the runnion and clean it all out Oiling should be done with the car jackrd to remove load from the trunions ...thats wortha thought Pete
  7. Lidl also have a rechargeable 'dremmel' with bits for 17,95 and their pemanent trickle charger £13 Got one , its lasted longer than my previous ceteck

  9. Think this as only required on pre 62 cars with flat front engine mounts stops the fan hitting the rad on emergency stops The later dovetail mount doesnt need the tie rod Pete
  10. Its not till you see yourself on Tv that you find every morning you have shaved back to front Without cutting anything reversed ......off. Pete
  11. i love triumph manuals they delight in making no comments or script about the one little part you need help with and the idea that refitting is the reverse of not telling you in the first place much of my orig triumph reprint WSM does not cover the changes in MK2 2000 and keeps rambling about MK1 with an odd supplement hidden or thrown in for good measure , never covers the particular area of concern . Im sure they like to keep a few jobs up their sleeve Pete
  12. The winter bug everyone seems to have been caught up with has finally breached my defenses So cough cough wheeze sneeze dribble and puke has withdrawn any interest in finishing this of so a test run is postponed for a few days till the gearbox bug overtakes the alien one And normal service is resumed Pah humbug Pete
  13. These relays just dimmed the stop and rear flashers wjen the side lights were turned on Just get some double ended lucar blades and join all the same family of colours together Red to red and greens to greens , just match the colours and join them Dump the black and bin the unit It was a good idea in its day but now going to be some trouble Dim dip headlamps had the same short existance Petel
  14. And a wonderfull array of those blasted scotch loks The normal bypass was to join all likes together and drop the earth Or just drop the earth but with that bunch of bodgeroonies its been done the hard way Pete
  15. my only musical attributes are the battle of the bulge and gone with the wind in no particular order Pete
  16. sorry about Edith but you could go to the diy store and ask for an Ertha Kitt. agree pits and sometimes lifts dont allow you to stand, and end up crouched , , then cant look up only down too deep to sit on a trolley or bench too high to kneel , my full lenght CJ ramps only rise about 12" but it allows you a sleep between struggles , maybe a wooly hat with a memory foam pad would improve the lying down engineer comfort Pete
  17. how far does it go when you wind it up said Zebedee
  18. by faces do they mean the faces between the bevel gear carrier and the rear housing ?? or the crown wheel and its diff case mounting faces Pete

  21. well the box is back in , not enough height to use the trolley jack transmision platorm, so back to two jacks and a bit of up down wibble wobbel and in she goes , the top studs are a pig to get at , the head fouls the brake pipes so getting the angle low enough is tight, odd there are no dowel locations for the clutch hsg, but there are 3x 3/8" bolts spread around the diameter, the remaining 11 are 5/16" as normal , only the back plate is doweled ..thats not my idea of it all being conentrictic just the prop and exhaust to button up , but after a long yesturday, today is one of coffee and biscuits Pete
  22. i got a roll of vynil chequer plate from costco 3mt by 6 or there abouts for £80 makes the trolly jack a bit bumpy but its thick , best stuck down it does pucker up if the wheels tuckin on jacking but so far its done a good few years and its quick and easy and for spanners etc a big board with a sillouette , you can see what you want , no rumaging in a drawer or box, makes easy, but not secure . Pete pete
  23. single rail box would generally have a J type OD , pete
