  1. The book simply shows alignment with a steel rule so if yours is within 0.005" thats well within the limits of an open tolerance Its fine Pete
  2. Its a classic, when you fix the problem it dosnt cure the fault You can fix a failed smiths valve ....just cut a disc out of your wifes marigolds Pete
  3. Some use a tywrap to sort of hold the position of the dirt flinger If the bearing quiet it may just need the shaft assy drifting back through the trunion and the bearing inside Pete
  4. all this is fine if youre running standard ignition with the normal delco or lucas dizzy and its aged design limitations in how high the HT can go or how much current the points etc. will take but this is not it has a matched pair of 123 dizzy and coil designed to run on pretty much anything you throw at it so if 123 quite clearly state the coil and dizzy you have will run quite ok there is no need to debate , they now more about thier product than we/I do Im for sticking to the basics if the spec say it will........... then thats fine happy new year Pete
  5. thats a B30PSE 1 it has a square accelerator pump diaphragm the 30Z1C-5 has a more triangular pump if thats a good guess Pete
  6. but its a 123 1.5 ohm compatible coil thats fitted and they say it will work the dizzy at 1.0 - 3 ohms you will only have the overload if going (as said) back to points .
  7. Post codes have a big effect on risk/prices i pay PJ 640 for the 15 plate Grande Picasso and the 2000 all unlimited ,euro rescue , breakdown, protectedNCD thats in LU3 if i moved to the contryside it would halve it. Pete
  8. thats good , its ok to use what you have then, the only snag with lowering the Ohms is that if this increases the coil HT output this can affect dizzy caps and rotors ..thats on lucas and delco units as yuur cap is all integral part of the 123 then from what they say its able to cope ok leave it all alone so no balast in the circuirt and sleep easy Pete
  9. Have look on https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/ For a threaded hose fitting Pete
  10. had some flat caps in the Vit6 but somehow doesnt suit the 2000 its more pipe and slippers motoring Pete
  11. just after a hours twiddling I decided its time to measure the detent pull loading of the selector shafts and the hub sliding sleeves well the sleeves on a press test are ok at 27 lbs , just a simple press through test on some kitchen scales good the 1/2nd selector shaft should be a 27lbft pull, so borrow some fishing scales( spring balance) and its only 14 lbs hence the jump out of 1st problems early boxes had a threaded spring retainer so you could adjust it , the later cost reduced versions have a 3/8" bucket core plug pressed in ,Not available from any Triumph suppliers but easy on ebay (unless youre Doug !!) so popped one out ( 1 hour of fighting ) to examine spring and ball , all correct , then it struck me just press the cap in further to compress the spring, you can always pack the back once you achieve a setting, as once the top cover is refitted these plugs are against the main case face, funny how the simplest ideas evolve after some swearing !!!
  12. uj greasing is a bit hit and miss, to get grease in it has to allow escape of air ,crud and grease through the simple seals , as you say getting to all 4 journals is a challenge you never realy know if you succeed, start up knock till the oil psi developes scars the pants off many owners. makes you wonder why they have lasted all these reliable years and theres panic for the last ten years of operation. just fire it up on choke allow to fast idle till the lighs out then drive....easy theres no worries about the modern car , can have the same problem of drain back or low psi on starting but with much tighter tolerances you dont hear the knocking same as fuel, use the highest octane you can get , you cant expect a jumbo jet to run on tiger moth fuel our cars are the same get as close to 100 as you can set the timing close to factory and have a Va Va Rooom for 2018 sleep well !!! Pete
  13. Yes the cross pin is thicker and off set to make space to thread the hole It has to face away from the drive flange, Then there is the non greasable which case it doesnt matter, And they all last a long time greased or sealed for life so greasable can be desirable but its not overly important After all What you take off has often been in there for 40 years Its a bit late to get paranoid about them same as start up oil pressure knock its been doing it for 40+ years Its not a Real Problem Pete
  14. Try opening the 'edit' tab just under your signature Yoh can revisit your submission and change the photo amd text Or just leave it alone Pete
  15. Amd its always best to phone rather than on pre scripted online enquiries Pete
  16. Yikes brave to take this on as a first , banger racing comes to mind looking at the paint and body condition Coventry motor museum, ive donated a lot of Commer handbooks and data there in the past also found they have the Commer TS3 2 stroke diesel I sectioned as an apprentice for the 1965 commercial motor show Good luck keep us up to speed with your progress Pete
  17. I use a whole variety of suppliers but for a one stop shop this time I used Rimmer Bros Placed the order for parts 27th at 1.16 pm and delivered 8.45am on the 28th thats only 19 hours door to door All looking good , well done Pete
  18. Az your coil is made to supplement the 123 and only has two wires on the hopefully +ve terminal and ( one is presummed ignition and a feed to the 123,) the single should be on the -ve and is the earth via the distibutor internals From that I hazard a guess its all 12v and any balast has been bypassed Just a thought Pete
  19. its got the mk1 grille cage nuts think i would give td fitchets a call , they list 13/60 in the courier as £105 but no viteese ones listed not on their web pages but that doesnt mean much as this list is selective http://www.tdfitchett.co.uk/store/body-herald-vitesse/
  20. Ha Three echos happy new year Pete
  21. Its a cold starting aid, you have a dropper to reduce the coil voltage to 6to8 volts For normal ignition on running this needs a coil resistance of 1.5 ohms.when you cranck it up the solenoid feed the 6v coil with 12v and boosts the HT helps if cold battery is in a poor state If you remove this and feed a 6v coil with 12v you cook elecfronics, or burn points as the ampereage isndoubled A 12v all, the time coil needs to be 3 ohms across the ign terminals The lead coil to the dizzy earths the coil via the electronic switching and this triggers the coil to discharge the HT Same as if you had points. Pete
  22. Wise move, my gearbox is patiently waiting for some post xmas enthusiasm And I hope to try my snow blower later when it stops I could fire the stuff over to my antisocial double parking own the road shout swear and row neighbours Pete

  25. We never really went decimal Jars of jam and pickle are still 454g not in units of 10 400 or 500 but of course a lbs a lb so 454g rules not inches or hertz the UK industry never converted the packaging , just the bl++dy labels Bit like the location silly signs on the motorway , if they rounded it up they could save a number and make the sign smaller Saves £££s Who cares if youre at 39.6 when 40 would be more sensible Grrrrr! roll on new year Pete
