  1. as mine were tired i just used a alloy J section from BQ , some decent domed tappers and all neat and tidy a cheap fix. Pete
  2. You will see in the Courier that Pip and Frank are having to retire from being our long trusty Area Liaison Officers so from me here's a big thankyou for keeping us all in line and giving the occasional poke and prod to get keep our interest wish you well in the future , hard act to follow regards Pete
  3. Need to add I here the pub meets are now held at The Crown PH high road , Shillington, Beds right in the centre of the membership spread we have full use of the resturant room so everyone gets a table and we can look at some talks , techy diatribe, or whatever always the fourth monday each month around 8pm classic modern, horse or bike , anyone in any car is welcome pete
  4. some areas have a hub puller, if your close to Herts and beds give me a call its even possible the proper puller can distort the flanges on real tight ones. the effect if not noticed is it will distort the brake drum when you tighten the wheel nuts and you get brake vibration. the vernier will always be useful, Ive got two digital ( aldi and mitutoyo) both brilliant , just in case i forget where it is. Ha ! these hub flanges either pop off easy or resist to the end, one old trick was to fit road wheel and 4 nuts and slide/whack wheel down studs to act as a slide hammer , if the puller fails leave it in tension overnight. Pete
  5. Pauls about correct with this, no verniers or dial indicators , just strong Tea, even the drift / tool dimensions shown in the WSM dont help at all. as this does nothing to help just check when all pulled up by the hub that the drum does sit across the shoes , and has clearance to the back plate it should all be that simple , last time on my vitesse one shaft had a register to fit the brg up to, the other was just a straight ground shaft you could have fitted it anywhere, amazing its only the force fit of the brg. on the shaft that stops any shift when cornering or wheel loading. but it seems to work if the flinger ends up a loose fit use some hard silicon sealer to glue it in place Pete
  6. If using a bulb thats fine but always make sure you dont turn the crank anticlockwise as the slack in the chain makes a lot of difference. on the crank pulley its known to have a loss of bond between the centre and the timming rim, this can end up rotated and puts tdc in the wrong place. you must retime the leccy unit as the trigger wheel wont replecate the point position, Pete
  7. None of the Inlets are required to be anything lead free only the exhausts, most sold are lead free compatible eg rimmer,, canley etc. pete
  8. You need a sender gtr108 or equivalent, if its been fitted withba early moving iron gauge sender it will read hotter than actual as will a failed stabiliser if giving output of 12+volts. many have changed everything to find its a wrong sender. They used to be colour coded but that seems to have dropped. simple and cheap, get a cheapo stick thermometer from your chemist and stick it in the filler neck To see what you are actually getting. also check earths on both gauges and stabiliser check the cfm and flow area of the electric fan is anywhere close to the mechanical original, many are much less pete
  9. many of the 6 pot variants also had a resonator box (small dia) mounted midships Pete
  10. pcb is around eg http://www.fuchs-lubritech.com/products/aerosols/overview/product/show/pbcd-1153.html your are after anti seize with some lube to stop surface degrade by the shuffle that takes place or water corrosion. without detailed clues this seems any anti seize will be ok eg Coppa slip etc just a thought Pete
  11. Where there's a will there's a way Glad Geof came up trumps PEte
  12. Glad you found the culprit and ...owned up to the loose screws Ha , we have all been there at some point .....what you mean its fell off , ive just done that up....didnt I !!!!!!! The turns is not cast in stone , its a starting point to get in to start, once hot twiddle till the cow come home , same applies to SU or any constant depression jet setting. Whilst both makes do a job I still say lay out the strom parts alongside SU and make you mind up about which is the best bag of bits Pete
  13. Not on abond but there, s not much difference but the single semi sports from club shop has a brilliant on song with a 6 pete
  14. Way back before glued in screens we were instrumental with dunstable rubber co to cut drain slots in the outer flip of the seal based on if you cant seal it let it out, but wont work well with the stainless capping getting in the way but just a thought to cure water retention behind the seal. we ended up with a modified sheet nibbler which made a nice shaped verticle slot in the outer lip. had 4 spread across a truck screen.
  15. that could be a cause for the frustrations .. theres some detail ,but limited on http://catalogue.brake-eng.com/ might glean a clue from the images ,, very limited Pete
  16. maybe im slow at this but a simple test shows the recent topic in forum wont show up in new content until an reply is posted so if nobody replys to a post in recent it wont appear as new content even though its 'new' just done it with the westbourne fete that explains a bit , even tried in Firefox as i dont use IE so have to look more carefully in the sections Pete
  17. is that you and Spud or Spud and You Ha !! bit out of our zone but good luck Pete
  18. Laptop, runs linux samsung tablet both with google chrome or plain google tried again and the posts and time lines are mixed between forum and new content if i reply it shows in new , but initially the post is not there what ever is used to preference pete
  19. Have you spoken to Winns about the early life failing of these seals .. they should last a good few years if you compare the old seal with the replacements is the lip to sit in the groove in the body the same moulded section ifnit wont stay located it sounds like they are not quite the right ones pete
  20. In recent topic at 5.25 there, s a post about model related topics, I have selected all the latest view new content options and it doesnt appear anywhere in this section same on tablet and laptop something here seems is not quite straight forward pete
  21. there are a wide selection of lamp units from a range of manufacturers some are supposed to be better then others, I used some wipac on the vitesse6 which was an early conversion some years back and they lasted 8 years without deteriation. we had all 4 on dip and main, this did contravene construction and use rules , made for very illuminating lighting, and never failed at MOT why because they are only prompted to test aim of inners and outers ,the fact that 4 were on is not an apparent requirement so 8 yrs mot trouble free . you could always add a switch to give 2/4 on dip as a option. but 4 on dip is basically not legal. Pete
  22. I still cant get round what shows in recent topics doesnt show in view new to content to see all new /recent additions or topics or posts you have to bounce between the sections to get a flavour of whats new Pete
  23. Inside the car to controll the valve it maintains cabine temperature steady with varying water temperature poke it in the footwell near the air outlet pete
  24. Take the jet down further till pin lift make a small increase in idle sound like its far too weak, leaving the cleaner off will make an weaker mix i would fit them back on and drop the jets more turns make sure the needles are fitted with the shoulder flush with the piston base ?? Needles I make mk1 6j mk2 6ac just doing it on a tablet none of the sites give details , Grrrr on laptop it works
  25. the initial pre set can be widely wrong and its not uncommon to richen them or weaken the jet from the 3 or what ever turns down from Flush. what needles are fitted ?? have you checked them to the manual ?/ make sure the two holes in air piston do actually face engine side . if the lifting pins are free raise it till you just toucky feel it meet the piston then raise about 2-3mm what happens idle tends to drop a little its weak idle rises a little rich nothing ..about right youre only looking for a hint of idle change , like 50rpm nothing dramatic for a few seconds only. guess is yours a thames barrier choke and not a starting valve on the side of the front carb ?? later models had a float height of 16mm but not vitesse so 18 is correct to the highest point on the float as upside down viewed what air cleaners are you using ?? is a air piston spring fitted inside ?? is the smiths breather if fitted working OK ?? just some ramblings Pete
