  1. I thought we could only use blue antifreeze ? Paul
  2. Just remembered how I fitted the top suspension bracket . Because I couldn’t raise the body tub enough I used a 12 in’s steel rule . I cut out a section to go round a bolt and sharpened the end to get an edge to start . With the steel rule hammered in place I slid the bracket in over the top and knocked it home . Removing the steel rule wasn’t too difficult as used a sliding hammer plus with the bracket in place it opened the gap by breaking sealant / paint which was preventing the body tub lifting. One thing I did learn was that there were no bolts on the ends of the outriggers , probably explaining the creaking 😱 Hope this helps Paul
  3. I’ve made the conversion to my mk2 Vitesse with Gaz shocks with the club shop conversion. Whilst it’s not an easy job I’d choose this option again . There is no visible gap between the chassis and body tub so not a source of corrosion. Paul
  4. The rotoflex suspension brackets I bought from the club shop fit between the chassis and body tub probably 3ins long . Once in place secured by a horizontal bolt . Mine was a pig to fit Paul
  5. Im planing to change my alloy rocker cover on my Vitesse back to original as the club shop neoprene gasket has stretched and leaking Paul
  6. I think you might have issues removing the extension brackets ie the body chassis bolts will need loosening and you might have to jack up the body . Having a sliding hammer might make the job easier . I’d leave them in position Paul
  7. I know for caravans the advice is 5 years Paul
  8. I’ve got accuspark for my Vitesse . Cheap and it works . I do carry spare points though just in case Paul
  9. I can take a photo tomorrow Paul
  10. I opted for a fixed copper pipe from the slave and attached to the side panel in the engine bay. Worked a treat however it was a pain when changing the slave . Re fixing 2 fixed pipes was difficult in such a small area and would have been much easier with 1 flexi . On my todo list to upgrade to a flexi system Paul
  11. If my Vitesse is anything to go by fibreglass should be avoided . It didnt fit and needed major surgery to get seal of the engine heat . I used Silent Coat sound deadening . Also added a gearbox oil filler access door . To secure i used Milk bottle screwcaps as oversized washers to cover the holes Paul IMG_3340.HEIC
  12. Update: the return journey back from the Wirral went fine . No lack of power in fact took note from BFG and used the OD less and even hit 4k in 4th 😱quite enjoyed it . Only issue I had was the Speedo stopped working . It was swinging about a lot and the screen washer stopped working for some reason. All in all a 700 mile trip. Next week plan to check the plugs, recalculate oil consumption and do a compression test and see if there’s blue smoke . Will the smoke be evident on acceleration ? Thanks again for all your input Paul
  13. The filter is not high quality and concerned it might leak or break the glass if mucked about with . Doesn’t look like it’s restricting fuel. Plan to clean when I get back . The issue currently is only on big hills and nothing like than on my way back to Suffolk Paul
  14. Its standard pipework and Gates Barricade for a Vitesse apart from joining sections for the Fuel Filter . Its been the same system for the past 4 years Paul
  15. Hi Pete ive got 2 filters , 1 before the Huco & 1 before the Carbs , Fuel is Momentum E5 or equivalent . Ive changed the plugs to see if there's improvement . The journey back has no big hills so as long as i dont push her too much should be ok to get back to Suffolk . Speed being 50 - 55 occasionally 60 - with ref range 2800 to 3200 - i do have OD . Thats oil you see on the plugs . Pre Ignition - Is this the same as Run on after switch off ? I dont get this Paul
  16. Out of interest what should oil consumption be in a Vitesse 2 litre ? Paul
  17. Yes but will check again as thought the clunk was the important bit Paul
  18. Just checked the carb pistons they move freely and drop with a clunk . The pistons do need a clean though. There is evidence of the rear carb flooding lots of crud in the filter before the carbs Paul
  19. Oil pressure - start up 75psi settling down to 50 psi at 3,000 revs in OD and idle is about 20 psi if that helps in diagnosis Paul
  20. Thanks for all the replies . Neg wire from coil goes to distributor The plugs were cleaned before yesterdays trip of 180 miles . Pic taken this morning . The lowest one is cyl 1 As I have spare set will change anyway Oil consumption is high 1 litre approx on 450 miles . Tootling around at home oil consumption is next to nothing . Could this be the underlying issue ? I get no rumbles on start up. Thanks for all your help Paul
  21. I haven’t had reason to check levels . When I purchased the car in 2016 I had the dreaded slivers and flooding , leaking gaskets , choke leaks . They are CDSE’s which were “reconditioned” though the only good bit was they were shiny and bright and supplied with 1 bent jet , different jet heights , and the float covers weren’t flat as they had been over cleaned , and when I eventually sorted the carbs I left well alone . I will check the sliding piston action tomorrow and if ok will leave until I get back on Weds as don’t want to jinx the journey back . I am running a Huco which has been in place for at least 3 years now and was installed as the mechanical pump was constantly playing up plus I find the engine easier to start with the Huco and the reassuring tic tic tic . When left for weeks she will start on second tug and when warm it’s every time Paul
  22. Yes this is new though it could have been progressive over the last year . In Suffolk we don’t have hills . The Accuspark has been in place for 4 years Paul
