  1. These guys had slightly more style. It would almost have been a pleasure to be pulled in by this one.
  2. Hi all - is there any way to add a photo to a classified ad? I've never tried it until last night, wanted to advertise a Triumph-related item but couldn't add a pic which sort of removed the point of the entire post.... can it be done online? Just Courier and website only, and tried via a member's free-ad price but no good so far. All advice welcome!
  3. That's all I can think of too - the mic for the phone? I took the battery out of the remote and cleaned it when first used, as I wasn't sure what condition it would be in; no idea if this made any difference or not as I'd already removed the plastic contact breaker that it came with. To be honest all I'll ever use it for is playing music through the USB, no phone, and probably no radio as my aerial isn't even connected to the old one! If you've already purchased another one, let us know how that compares. I'm always experimenting.
  4. That's a pity. I went out five minutes ago, wired mine to an old 12v battery, and set the clock to that time. Yellow and red wires must be connected as well as the earth. It's all done through the remote: button 12 till clock comes on, select with button 8, press and hold 12 till it flashes, and set. Sometimes it takes the button to be held for two or three seconds until things start to flash but mine seemed easy enough to do. You may well have gotten a duff one. Let us know if they refund ok.

So: just to clear up confusion: what IS the one to go for? We seem to have standard, medium, and heavy duty, but the club shop ones might not be as heavy duty as I had previously thought, and even so some of the heavy duty ones are actually not as heavy duty as the REAL heavy duty ones, which in any case might not fit our cars... so I'm confused, and it appears the regreasable GKN ones I was intending to use may not be fit for purpose. Simple answer, anyone?
  6. I need to identify a set of old brake shoe return springs, I suspect very early TR, but can't check. Reference is as in the photo, GB.41241. The other long number comes back as everything from Commer van to David Brown tractor.... Does anyone have any good reference catalogues for the period of about 1950 - 1955 and can check or point me in the right direction?
  7. Yes got it ok, just need your address so PM me that. (No, Pete, before you get any ideas: that's NOT my name at weekends but 'er indoors as I never use a credit card and Paypal needed someone's name to set up the account way back in the day.)
  8. It seems most things are programmed through the remote; I found these photos but will keep looking for anything more... concrete... I never set the clock on mine the entire time I had it in the Mondeo, nor did I preset any of the radio channels, since as I have no permanent power in the Gt6 it won't remember any of that anyway....
  9. I'll send you a message - check your notifications
  10. They're weighty, but I keep costs as low as possible... not as high as certain rates tho, which seem to charge the same for a feather or a bag of coal... My local PO stung me the other day, a small parcel for which I had charged £3 cost over £7 to send, which was amazing given the low weight and the fact that other heavier parcels sent before and after from different locations cost far less. There are complaints and grumblings about that Post Office and some locals refuse to use him. I've been bitten, so that's that.
  11. The value of your house may go up as well as down etc etc. Thanks guys - I know the tapered one uses a plastic collar to hold the wheel centre on, and that the others are definitely Triumph, but no idea what for. Certain on-line auctions are offering max £1 seller fees this weekend so am digging out a lot of useless (to me!) bits to move on.
  12. Since the compressor is once again working away ten to the dozen I've been blasting parts and was working on some of the rear axle brackets; there are two and to be honest I was suspicious of them as when removed they dumped a lot of rust onto the garage floor, huge big flakes that were too thick to be safe. I'd already priced second-hand replacements and before you ask no I don't want the stainless versions, at just over £100 a pair they're going to be a waste of money on my car. However the work today has confirmed my fears - perforations! In some ways I'm much happier that I'll have to replace both - and it will be both - rather than worry there might be less metal than is safe when driving. I didn't see any at Stratford but a call to Robsport is on the cards as I need bushes and handbrake boots anyway.
  13. I've been rummaging again and found almost a full set - 15 - of these wheel nuts, but they're not the usual black-collared GT6 or Spitfire style, which is the one to the right in the photo. Anyone recognise the one on the left? I suspect they may be for alloys but can't confirm.
  14. Thanks Richard and Doug; I was with the AA for years but their renewal became astronomical so I was eventually allowed to leave. I can't say I simply left them as they hounded me day and night until I literally had to be rude to them down the phone and request that they stop pestering me. My modern Insurance has breakdown recovery including fuel shortage, puncture and home start but doesn't say who it's with. Sadly - or fortunately - my good mate Brendan is just too handy and has a range of flatbeds to bring me home when little mishaps happen.... so to date I rarely have ever had to call anyone else, but it may be a bit much someday to call him out to the M6 or wherever.... so I just might need to use my own policy and don't want to regret it later when I get the renewal.
  15. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-HERALD-1200-12-50-13-60-JEMCA-INTERIOR-MIRROR-NEW-OLD-STOCK-ORIGINAL/263951472895?hash=item3d74bbd8ff:g:aBoAAOSwHb9bpebv Last one I bought was at Stoneleigh, cost me about a pound for the mirror part only.
  16. Does it count as a claim? I'm always wary of having anything to do with Insurance companies as they'll get any expense back with interest.
  17. Same as the Herald setup. The centre piece around the mirror is either Triumph grey, as in the early cars, or black, and the rails are only short stubs - fix the centre, slide on the visor, then slide in the end piece and screw or bolt in place. Very easy to disassemble and repaint. The entire mirror part - backing and glass - can be replaced new.
  18. Great - especially as those are the two I have (photographed!) PM me and I'll get them to you.
  19. The mirror glass is easy to find as are the mirrors themselves; I've bought both at Stafford and Stoneleigh. The rails are only steel so can be easily sanded and repainted.
  20. Just confirm it's these two guys in the photo? When you say you have the three finishers but not the curved ends I'm hoping you mean you've mislaid the outer bits, not that you already have three bits but the Vitesse uses yet more that I don't know about...!
  21. I should have them to hand...wait one.... had to run out and check. Instructions are on the box but I got removal pins with mine ok. Nothing exotic, a couple of wooden stirrers from Starbucks would probably do the same job. I have an entire lifetime's collection of them anyway so have just about every shape and size already.
  22. I've been to the outer limits - the garage storage room (which is actually quite a nice room with two windows but you have to be careful not to step back and fall through the hatch in the floor) - and in looking for other parts found a good supply of pedals, most of which should be Herald clutch and brake but I've found one with a different return spring assembly. In any case it doesn't. Return, that is; the spring appears to lock it into the fully open position instead of closing it again. Can anyone confirm if it's late-model Spitfire? Herald one is on the left.
  23. Have located two, a pair ie one left and one right, and made sure I still had a pair for myself. Worrying thing is that I don't have any centres! I'm hoping mine will turn up in a box of odd bits that I haven't checked yet. I thought I'd have more but the early cars don't use them, which explains why I've only got two pairs. (But have several sets of the curved dash corners the early cars do use) If you still need them, pm me; if not at least I now know where they are....
  24. And not very easy to replace, either! I've replaced one recently and am not happy with the fit so far... must try again!
  25. Don't be tempted to jam something down inside the internals to lock it - I've seen it done and supplied the replacement unit afterwards!
