  1. It is highly likely to be 1/4" BSP.?. Pete
  2. Back when I was on Factory maintenence, 50 years ago!!, some of the wearing parts of machine tools where induction hardened. This however does require a different class of steel (inherantly more costly too). Whereas Low carbon (cheaper) steels can be benficially case hardened and is (as) satisfactory in many/most uses. The issue with "our" cars is their age and the declining availability of many O/E spare parts, plus the questionable quality of those being produced. Refurbishing damaged shafting by "metal spraying" whilst one way of recovering a part, also has it`s own hazards centred around "who and to what standard". Done right it is a way of recovering expensive to re-manufacture equipment. Pete
  3. So if 6 to 8 is "factory", I assume O/E assembly tolerances? I would hazard that 3thou of wear IS tolerable. How much more is debateable? I would be inclined to the opinion that it is unlikely that it only takes 3thou of wear to reach the point at which the thrust washers would displace Is the same tolerance good for the 13/60 engine?. If so I have one (running when last fitted, engine) out of a car at this time and a Dial Micrometer, it might be an easy check? ( if I can find the damn Magnetic stand!!) Edit:- The 4cyl (12/50) engine end float is listed at 4to8thou. Pete
  4. OK I`ll start:--- NOT, greasing your trunion(s)? (EP90?) only. Pete
  5. Interesting thought?, My feeling is that failed outriggers would be more likely to affect the Boot spreading?. With the tub effectively confined by being bolted to the top of the rear suspension unlikely to affect the tub at the door openings?. Tub spread is in my view more likely as a function of weakening of the sill/B post area due to corrosion?. Or poor repair?. Either way, opens up a nice "can o worms" for debate? Pete
  6. An update of sorts on this, I had the rear wheels off my 13/60, in the last week or so for access. Refitting yesterday, I found one of the Wheel nuts to have a noticably different Nose angle to the others. rummaging through my box of "spare wheel nuts various" I discovered a suitable nut Taper/thread wise, which was not 11/16 AF more 21mm? Eventually the stash did produce a correct nut. Worth watching out for, as the wrong taper could be a factor with wheels coming loose? Pete
  7. Victor/Papa (V-P). Independently:- "V" Flown to Request assistance. "P" flown, to indicate all on board ready to proceed to sea. p.s: I had to go online to check as I last did "semaphore" in the Scouts about 65-70 years ago now. Pete Humble apologies gentlemen.😟 Updated: as pointed out below. I got the colours reversed. S (Sierra)= Flown to indicate "I am am procceding full speed astern. P
  8. 👍 Fitted, along with refurbished Triumph badges. Showing off refurbed overiders and polished alloy fender trims. Pete
  9. Stripping the wire correctly is also important.? Pete
  10. Don`t know about re-post? But I remember it from watching Tomorrows World back in the 70`?s. My thooughts then where the same. Nice idea, but what about charging?. About that time we carried a Battery Fork Truck on a Ro-Ro vessel. Huge H-D Batteries, And the number of times the deckhands forgot to put it on charge was legion, took a full overnight to get it back up. Pete
  11. I`ve noticed the greater failure rate to be on the more modern "thin" insulation cable?. On those the only answer apparently is to fold the wire back over the insulation?. I do agree the old "lucar" type without insulation and using shrink is a much better/neater result. If your really into belt and braces they can even be soldered. Slightly off topic, I recently came accross a Battery soldering iron, circa £15 from Aldi. Only used once so far, but being wire free it resoldered a dry joint on a circuit board, without me having to set up extention cables to reach the site. Pete
  12. In My case these are recovered O/E ones, but I have no holes so out out with the drill🤔 I think I have the idea, It`s where I suspected they where so this mornings job👍
  13. No Holes, but I understand that `71 seems to have been a "cut off" year when they stopped fitting them?. Current info would apear to be they are in line with the chrome trim, and about half way between the Filling cap and the Tail light, with the driver side a similar distance?. C-V`s and Coupe`s Only, so I am told?. "Plum" is a C-V. Pete
  14. a Lot like that around Aldershot in the 80`s. Re- Registered, some already 5 or more years old, having come back from BAOR Germany. They stopped doing it at the height of the IRA terror. To make it less easy to identify Militrary personel. Every time I went on a Camp. I got the full 3rd degree and a search, Got so the Guardhouse knew better than me what was in the boot!!. Pete
  15. Hi. Can anyone confirm the correct location for these:- I think they should be level with the rear trim?. Pete
  16. £150 for a sound rear C-V tub, with hood, frame and seats, in a scrappy, circa 1982, I was tempted, to do a conversion on Maureens Saloon. She decided the Webasto was enough. Pete
  17. Likely the biggest issue, being the fact the 90% or more of smaller cars are front wheel drive. I cannot think of a small car with RWD? Pete
  18. My first "dinky toy" was the Riley RMA, bought for me by my grandad. I always lusted after full size one. But never achieved it. Now of course they make Silly money. Dad, had mostly Ford`s. My asociation with Triumphs, started when I bought a Vitesse, for Maureen in the 1980`s which served as her commuter for several years, When I was looking for a "toy" this 13/60 AKA "kit of parts" came up, which is now residing under cover having been usurped by "plum". Probably to be under offer in the near future. If I was to list all the vehicles that have passed through our hand`s It must run well into double figures. I had 7 Escorts alone in 10 years, most "lost" to "tree hugging".🤣 Pete
  19. I have read somewhere about Ford boxes being used? I know from doing rally prep that the early boxes in the Escort were reasonably robust. And one of the easiest to work on. Pete
  20. Depends on the Age/Quality of the Radio?. Some do/did have internal batteries (similar to those found on some computer motherboards) to keep the settings. I have one of those isolation connectors in my tool box, came off another vehicle. Pete
  21. Just simple panels from Aldi or Lidle, only about 15W, so no chance of overcharging, but sufficient over the long term to compensate for internal loss`. they are attached to the Fall pipe on the south side of the garage which get Sun for most of the day. Pete
  22. In recent years, I have taken to connecting small (15W) solar panels to any standing batteries, tends to be just enough to keep them "live". Pete
  23. Hi I bought a can of Damson, a few weeks back. it does not state on the can exactly what the composition is. But it does smell somewhat like celly, and standard thinner will remove any overspray. I have sprayed on top of the existing paint, in places (rear Valance) and so far not noticed any adverse reaction?. Pete
