  1. If you really want to complicate it, My thread gauge (28TPI) looks a good fit, when the photo is blown up on photoshop. The downside of that is they (gauges) are actually Whitworth thread form 55deg.!. At that mag; it is getting a bit less distinct. Pete
  2. "I can see clearly (Haley) Now the (Lor)rain has gone"!. This is what mine looks like.:- Pete
  3. Colin My 13/60 has the Diaphragm Clutch. Unfortunately the gearbox is under storage!. And it`s like the monsoon down here at the moment so less than ideal conditions to go and look!. Maybe Later or tomorrow?. Pete

    Nice GT6 for sale

Possible, but only if you are trying to lose "mattress cash"? The scheme is you pay the restorer in small amounts over a long period of time, the amounts are small enough not to attract attention and do not pass through the "books". Similar to how ,many small "operators" get around VAT. Usually only come to light when someone "blows the whistle" eg; the EX wife!. In this case probably not as it is far too documented. Pete
  6. That make more sense actually. The movement of the Vac; advance needs to be proportional to the "Throttle opening". Whereas the manifold pressure would not be as accurate. The location of the take off, is confusing, until you point it out. And the supply needs only to be from one carburetor. Pete
  7. The final finish is scheduled to be done in a pro shop. But the base coat, flatting, rubbing down with all the dust and over-spray involved would IMV be better done separately from the garage. The Herald is not a particularly wide car, i`ve painted one before in a single garage. We`ve had cheapo gazebo`s before and they can be strapped down fairly successfully with ratchet straps and ground anchors. short of the howling gale?, at the moment the jury is out on it. Pete
  8. I`v been thinking ahead about how to manage the Prep/paint on the 13/60. And was considering one of those cheap "party tents". They come in a 6x3M size which would make a fair sized Spray booth?. I`v seen them online for less than £150. The quality shouldn't be critical as it`s more a "one shot" job. Pete
  9. I think, (it a bloody long time ago) that I set mine, and then double checked with a couple of colourtune plugs in 2 and 5?. Pete
  10. My thoughts on that are the Vacuum connection is on the wrong side of the carburetor? you will be effectively measuring the manifold pressure?. Any take-off needs to be on the carb; inlet side?. Pete
  11. Never done/seen it on Stromberg`s, but the Bing Carbs fitted to my Beamer (bike), both had drilling s which where blanked off with small machine screws and fibre washers. I only remember balancing the Vitesse carbs (1980`s) by listening to the "hiss" in the Carb mouth with flex hose? a sort of stethoscope . As shown in the Haynes manual?. The vacuum connection was for the vac advance on the distributor, hence why only on one carb;. Years ago I had one of these, which could be used on twin carb setups. https://www.halfords.com/tools/hand-tools/automotive-tools/gunson-carbalancer-495254.html?cm_mmc=Google+PLA-_-Tools>Hand+Tools>Automotive+Tools-_-Tools>Hand+Tools>Automotive+Tools-_-495254&istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istFeedId=62b447cf-331e-4fec-a47a-9985ff72d404&istItemId=pplxwaqim&istBid=tzwt&_$ja=tsid:|cid:11902546034|agid:113456751337|tid:pla-331014970735|crid:487900199209|nw:u|rnd:18286968906922132218|dvc:c|adp:|mt:|loc:1006816&gclid=Cj0KCQjwt-6LBhDlARIsAIPRQcJeOhglR_teN89wR-N3Nq6FAmrvWfkGNpdtdZWmyOnIXgjLyjvrOigaAj9dEALw_wcB Pete
  12. I recently saw a photo of the car deck of one. With just the one Motor-home in the whole deck! nothing else!. Most of the ferry Co`s take their ships out of service for annual survey Jan/Feb time largely because of the lack of custom.. Pere
  13. I think it`s "known in the trade" as the "come on"?. The place is Potentially Empty, the cost is just the Laundry. But what you spend is the icing on their cake. It works 99% of the time and if the customer is happy, they will consider going back again as a paying guest. It`s a win-win really all round. Like cheap overnight Ferry Places, we`ve used them often, barely cover the insurance as far the ship`s concerned. But if like us you dine on board or have a few beers?. Pete
  14. Once tried that, never found the nut I was looking for, But an interesting selection of metal of indeterminate origin, that had obviously been "delivered" with the Gravel. Pete
  15. Pete, Whilst I take on board what you say. If you check steam practice, you will find the vast majority of drain cocks etc; all in fact conform to that practice. "Line" valves are different they conform to the "open in line with the pipework" Another controversial issue was the use of what are known as "gate" valves, they where invariably fitted upside own. The reason given was that If the "gate" came off it`s screw, it failed open. Caused many an argument when discussing it in the Bar!. Pete
  16. Time, and shed loads of patience?, move one thing, something else don't align, etc; etc; etc;. Being working on and off of on the 13/60 for over a year now!. And that's before it goes to the paint shop!. Still got an 8mm gap on the driver side cill. Looking at some old pic`s of "our" cars coming from the production line, and even they are less than perfect!. Pete
  17. It isn`t "pull and turn" Or "turn and pull" is it?. I`ve seen that before?. Pete
  18. Talking of "nice" Blue`s. I saw a BMW (5 series? Spit!) yesterday which was a gorgeous "electric" blue slightly deeper than Mathews 2500. More to the point It was pointed out to me By Mrs H, so she obviously "approves". Pete
  19. Pete, The "reasoning" behind that is to ensure the "weight" of the lever holds the cock closed (Gravity). Standard marine practice. "Normally" the lever would be in line with the pipe when open. You don`t need "sea cocks" vibrating open!, nor cooling water valves closing, by themselves. Pete
  20. That`s endemic throughout the "Show" World not just Classic`s. For many years I marshaled at Motor-home,Caravan, and Music shows/festivals. Many are finding the travel costs and setup fees too much especially when you can do 99% online now. And of course it has accelerated due to the recent pandemic. Pete
  21. Whilst I agree. You would be amazed just how basic 50/60`s commercial vehicles actually where. My Thames 5cwt van had a demister element that stuck on the screen with 2 suction pads! and plugged into a socket under the dash!. I drove a Thames 4D flatbed in which we used a Paraffin Sump heater for cab heating, and had only one windscreen wiper on the driver side. All 3 speed boxes with no syncromesh on first. Only one bulb behind the dashboard on that too. The "trafficators" where prone not to work, without a thump on the cab side, OR you used arm signals!!. Which I had to demonstrate to pass the test!. Pete
  22. Interesting topic, NEC, the last time I went I think it was £25-30 (Ish) plus £12 to park. So give or take £40 for the day. For me, a 2+hour drive each way too. I went to the Caravan show a few years back, that was £12 on the door, again parking was £12 too. You do wonder if it`s worth it?. I Note the on the day parking is now £16!. and disabled parking is £12 now. Pete.
  23. Something to do with the two strange triangular windows in both doors?.😁 A Bit like one car I had Air-Con AND a sliding/tilting steel sunroof!. what`s that all about?. Pete
  24. There is on here somewhere a couple posts about fitting alternative fans in the system. Nissan Micra, and Smart Car?. The problem with all heating systems is the fact that once you get it working as good as. The next move is increasing the Matrix CSA which is what is required to improve heat transfer to the air passing over the matrix. Cleaning the Air side, is as important as the water side. Pete Edit:- https://forum.tssc.org.uk/topic/7802-nissan-micro-heater-fan-conversion/?tab=comments#comment-108341
  25. Useless Information; The Hamburg Poitzi. had some in the 60`s/ 70`s. Funniest thing you saw was one going backward, "full ahead" against the Elbe current/tide. We used to stand on the ship deck and watch them🤣. As I understand about the only thing "Triumph" was the engine?. Pete
