  1. Thanks to all of you for your help. Will give it a try. Regards, Jim.
  2. The driver side sun visor has fallen off. I managed to retrieve the three screws from the fitting. I feels as if they each screw into a wooden fitting behind the headlining. Is this correct? When trying to reinstate the screws I am unable to gain any purchase. It feels as if the "bedding" for the screws has deteriorated somewhat. Would I have to remove the headlining to gain access to reinstate the bedding. If so would this entail removing the front windscreen? Hopefully not. Would appreciate any thoughts towards this issue. Many Thanks, Jim.
  3. Thanks Pete. The car has only done a genuine 24k miles so also doubt (and hope) it's not the gearbox. I haven't tried your suggestion of engaging the gear with the engine off. Will let you know how I get on. Regards, Jim.
  4. Car started OK and drove up to the pub car park OK (1/2 mile). Had to manoeuvre the car around the pub car park which in itself was unproblematic and the gear selection was uneventful. Upon leaving the pub had to do it bit a more manoeuvring to get it out to the exit. I noticed that instead of what I thought was first gear, reverse would be selected. I didn't think this to be unnecessarily strange, perhaps my imagination. Drove out of the pub and drove the car for a normal four or so miles. Changed down from fourth to third for a bend. Upon trying to go back up into fourth the gear lever went into the gate but there was no engagement whatsoever with the gear with the engine revving as if it were in neutral. I turned round and drove home in three gears. I did try to reengage fourth gear during the journey but was unsuccessful. I did notice that when trying to force the lever down into fourth with the clutch on the gear would crunch as if the clutch wasn't depressed. Would be grateful for thoughts please, bad or good news. Many Thanks, Jim.
  5. New starter motor. Ignition light is going out as expected after revving. Car has done 500 miles since and performed beautifully. Off to Duxford on Sunday. Thanks for your help guys.
  6. so tried to fire up this mornimng and the engine turned over for 20 seconds but didn't fire. Tried again and all I am getting is clicking but no engaging starter!! Not happy. Jim.
  7. Many Thanks for your advice guys. I will have a look over the bank holiday and report back. Regards, Jim.
  8. Decided to give the GT6 a service. This included coolant change, oil change, plugs and fan belt. After having tried to change the fan belt it became apparent that Rimmers had supplied the wrong part so I reinstated the original fan belt. I had to remove and disconnect the alternator to undertake this process. Then tried to start the car. As a general rule the car always takes a long time to fire after being left for a period of time (week or more) but will always start and it will run really well, as expected. The first key turn can be as long as 20 seconds before it will fire. Any key turn immediately after starting the car and the engine runs with no issues. On this occasion during the first key turn the iginition light was illuminated. Because the engine was not firing for the first key turn (longer than 20 seconds) I stopped and primed the fuel pump. Within the second key turn the engine kicked over and fired up within 5 seconds and ran as normal. However this time the ignition light didn't come on. It hasn't come on since restarting the engine or driving the car for a few miles. Any thoughts please. Many Thanks, Jim.
  9. Hi - Check out my story "losing power" posted last week. I reckon that if you clean the metal fuel lines, change all of the rubber fuel lines, remove and clean the fuel tank and change the air filters that may well do the trick. Best of luck!
  10. Sorry also forgot to mention I replaced the foam inserts for the air filters as the old foam had disintegrated and I guess there was debris getting into the carbs from these as well.
  11. GT6 mk II After second fill up from purchase engine started losing power after 5 miles and eventually dying. It would restart but would be very lumpy and eventually die again. Purchase was Jan '16 and is a low mileage car so imagine it hadn't been run for some time. Read Haynes / read on line forums / took advice - Rimmers - all directed me towards ignition - all were most adamant that this was the first likely problem and fuel was not the issue. So bought new coil which made no difference. Previously had decided to change the fuel filter. The old one did look messy so thought this would be good start. Upon rechecking the new filter I noticed that after the small 3 or so miles it had accumulated some debris on the inlet side. So took a leap of faith against advice and decided to remove the tank, clean the metal lines and renew all rubber lines. When I say "clean the metal lines" I mean blow through them with a compressor. All reassembled, fired her up, have driven her for 50 or so miles without any issues.
