And I take it the setting of the drive gear end float was successful in the end Aidan?
Yes I just need one .006" shim. None were fitted originally - another PO bodge !!

I think I have this now!
Just concerned about that gap in my pic above, but I will check to see if the clamp absorbs that as Pete states

Just an update, it would seem that after much investigation, my clamp is a Lucas one which must have been bodge fitted by a PO.
Delco clamp to be ordered!!

the end float, is this between the pedestal and the drive shaft??
Can you confirm?

whats the gap with no dizzy fitted ??? same or better ???
Pete the pedestal sits flat without the dizzy in place. I will try with the clamp fitted.

just check its not the dizzy clamp thats giving you some fitting restrictions

I didn't have the clamp fitted Pete, The pic here shows the gap with all faces sitting flush. Will the spacers absorb all this plus the float??
I found the part - 125252 which is .02" thick, but should these parts all sit flat without any shims??

Hi
Sorry points above still apply but reading again, the end float, is this between the pedestal and the drive shaft??
The process above does now make a little more sense! How big does this washer need to be? Diameter?
Thanks

distributor adapter
Sorry I meant pedestal. I was having issues fitting as I didnt have the studs fitted, much better now.
More to the point, I have the drive shaft in and pretty sure the oil pump is located ( the shaft twisted in to engage and is the same depth as the original engine shaft. I might be missing something but when i try to trial fit the dizzy there's a about a 1 to 2 mm gap from the top of the pedestal to the dizzy.
Would the packing washers take this up? And whaats the part number for them? I can't find them
Thx

Hi again!
Refitting the distributor adapter to the new engine from old. It seems an extremely tight fit!
Any thoughts? I assume they are a standard item?
Also how important is this packing procedure? There was no packing from the old engine. If important had anyone got a better description of what to do I read yhf manual and don't really understand it
Thx

So, while I have the engine out I thought I'd rebuild the wiring loom AZ it's had various bitd and bobs done to it plus I want to reposition the light relays to the bulkhead alongside the horn relay.
Anyway I've found a blue only cable following the dynamo/ alternator route alongside the brown/green and brown/ yellow(original dynamo cabling)
Anyone know what this solid blue one might have been for? I can't see it on the mk1 wiring diagram
Thx

Engine is now on the bench!!! YAY!
So, next question. Taking the gearbox (with od) off, how much does it weigh?
Can I just lift it across myself, or do I need to use the crane??
TIA

Tried accuspark some years ago as cheap. A bad experience, purchased a better quality system and no problem since then

As above. And consider welding the nuts to the bracket, with the bolts from under, for next time!
John
If only!! 😊

So nos 16 and 21 then??
For the mount, is it best to geg them from underneath??
Aidan

Thanks John fo I need to just undo the no 16 bolts then ? I don't see how I can reach some of those bolts unless there is a knack to it

Hi
Does anyone have a picture of the bolts I need to undo reference the gearbox mount?
This is an od gearbox so not the same as the std mount
TIA

Those pictures make me sure I need to get mine cleaned out!

While I have the water pump housing removed, is there a good way to clean the rust and crap out of it?
I've seen various posts on acid based cleaners, can any one suggest which is best??
Thx

Think I now have plenty of room as the bonnet and all ancillaries are removed. I've even had to raise the front of the car a couple of inches to get the engine lift into place. I'll just remove the gear stick if that's sll that's really needed
Spent the weekend cleaning ancillaries and still a lot of work to do once the engine bay is empty.

Thanks all. I'm not going to repeat this task so I will probably use some foil combined with gaffer tape

Sorry
Just wanted to clarify ix it best to remove the gearstick mechanism or just the gearstick when taking engine and box out??
TIA

Hi Pete,
There was definitely a post on here somewhere - probably two or three years ago and I just cannot find it. The member had polished the exterior so it almost looked like chrome! I did have a conversation with them but now am unable to find it.
i'm hoping whoever did the post will come back to this! I

do have some chrome paint, but I'm not so sure how long that would last with the heat of the block - its not high temp paint

Do you mean polish the exterior to make it look nice and shiny or polish the inside to aid airflow? If the exterior then just a progressively finer abrasive and finally metal polish, interior as Pete says
Just the exterior
thx

Hi all,
Some time ago (years) i saw a post from someone that had been able to polish up the Inlet manifold which looked really good. As my manifold is now off the car I would like to do the same. I'd like to ask some general questions on how it was so well done.
Grateful if that contributor or anyone who has achieved this, could let me know how please?
Thx
