  1. Would the boiling water test be worthwhile? And if you have a cooking thermometer then you could see what temperature it had to be for half way on the gauge This would confirm all the above Aidan
  2. Hi Colin I think I mentioned this before, but the older your loom, the more potential it has to short and fail as the covering does become brittle. Running even 16 amps though old style and aged cable is a risk to me, you never know what previous owners have done or why! Aidan
  3. Thanks Clive, Received these today - They will make it so much easier to fit. I have mine pointing down @ about 20 degrees from vertical and the standard length is difficult to remove due to the oil relief valve housing which just sticks out in the wrong place! Aidan
  4. Thanks Clive Will order a couple to keep me going, it will be much better than the standard depth ones, they are a pain to fit, this will make it a lot easier Aidan
  5. Thanks is Colin A dumb question but do all spin on filters have the same thread? Or so I need to find one specific like this? https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mahle-Oil-Filter-OX16D-Genuine-Part/161791058347?fits=Car+Make%3ATriumph|Model%3AGT6&hash=item25ab7fa1ab:g:UtUAAOSwv0tVEUgw&_trkparms=gclientid%3Dba8qwaJvbb-A1G_bCyVFVP7No1WlNW1ZjEcdJo87Y-ACmwZdqJOvxdXugXPxeFo6&_trksid=p2489528.m4335.l8656 Aidan
  6. Sorry quick add on to this. Is there a shallower spin on filter than the standard one? I.e. less deep? Aidan
  7. Haha feel as if I should appologise but it's too funny! I didn't think those kinda things needed fuses! Aidan
  8. Hi Should have said I have a spin on conversion! That being said I got my latest filter from the shop Are we saying this make are no good ot just the standard gt6 filters? Confused Aidan
  9. Thanks Colin! I was going to fit one of those in the next few week's grrrr Oh well back to fram from paddocks! Aidan
  10. There are some really nasty "cheap" produced ones out there for delco dizzys to I was lucky that when mine came off it did no real damage I now remember to make sure they fit tightly Aidan
  11. If I remember right I couldn't find a car fuse box that came with a busbar hence having to make one. The other option is to make a small hoop of wire with double connectors so they can be joined. Again I did not think that was the best solution Aidan
  12. A buzz bar is a way to connect one side of a fuse boxes fuses together. As an example if you need three circuits to be live from the ignition, you don't run three cables from the switch you just run one and connect the other two fuses together with what's called a buzz bar ( mainly described as this in household fuse boxes) As for circuits, it depends on the car. My mk1 for instance has seven std circuits so that left me with three fuses free I could have doubled up on quite a few (two or more circuits on one fuse) but chose not to. I also fused things like the coil circuit which are not fused at all on the standard fuse box as it's fed from the live side of the fuses Aidan
  13. Easy enough to find on eBay. If you are not sure then its just not worth the risk https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F291022081317 Aidan
  14. In simple terms I cheated ! I cut a separate hole for the loom and grommet and the cut a narrow channel between that and the fuse box hole. The grommet butts up to the fuse box nicely sealing up the gap. This avoids having to take the loom out, putting it through a new hole and re-wiring up Aidan
  15. This may be of use Grant http://forum.tssc.org.uk/topic/2452-fuse-box-replacement/ Aidan
  16. Comment on someone who you don't want to name Dave Aidan
  17. Hi Sorry I was talking about people of normal intelegence, the ones that after spending money on a car are happy to spend 30 pounds on an MOT Clive surely this guy would be driving the car without insurance as well then - it's a lot more than an MOT! Mind you theres nought as queer as folk! Aidan
  18. These are when the fuse will blow 35A 17 continuous will blow at at a continuous 17A draw but will take a 35A peak or spike. You don't want a fuse that will only blow with upto a 35A continuous flow that's a fire hazard ! This is a good reason to either upgrade the fuse box and/or replace the loom Aidan
  19. In general I think that anyone who has a classic wants to ensure it is well looked after and maintained, possibly due to it retaining or appreciating in value but mainly for the enjoyment of owning and driving it. (Dare i say loving it) and also drives it accordingly This is why classic car insurance is so comparatively cheap I will be getting an annual check / assessment, but will go with what my local (classic car owner) MOT garage suggests is best Who are these people who drive cars that will now fall into the new mot exemption that don't care about their car? Surely the same ones that don't have insurance or even a licence! Aidan
  20. Dash top refurb kits are also available at Park Lane Classics if you want to DIY Give them a call and he will advise on the best way to do it. Aidan
  21. Cookie The problem with fuzzes MOT list is it's far too small unless it's changed lately Last time I looked I would have to drive over 100 miles to my nearest listed station Maybe someone could have a word with Fuzz? Aidan
  22. I did see it but I'm hopefully all sorted now (keeping fingers crossed) Just waiting for the supplier to call me back Did you see the early KC GT6 engine? It went for only 67 pounds I guess it would have been suitable for my mk1 but from what was said above I decided best to stay away. Maybe the price it sold for represents that Aidan
  23. OH POOP just realised I got out to sunny greece on the 19th. Sorry guys! Aidan
  24. Hi Dick Thanks for your help, unfortunately I don't have access to the DVD's and my new computer actually does not have a DVD drive If anyone could kindly stick a pdf on here I would be grateful Aidan
  25. Thanks Dick Can you remember if they put them through the bottom of the valance or in the connecting panel? Aidan
