  1. Hi Alton and Pertronix are two sales names for the same product They do go wrong but are in the in the quality side of the many in the market Aidan
  2. I found some more details on the ones in the shop which says Gaz Shock Absorber - Damping Adjustable Triumph GT6 Mk1 1966 > 68 Front Gaz dampers are provided with a multi point adjustment facility that alters bump and rebound damping on a pre set ratio (e.g. 3-1, 2-1) via a single control knob. Struts and Inserts in the Road Range are fitted with a top adjuster that alters rebound settings only, but the bump settings can be altered for various motor sport uses at the point of order. So to me they are not as adjustable as many. I think I will have to ask Garth what he recommends. I just want decent quality standard ride shocks Aidan
  3. Hi Ben Although Fitchett are good suppliers, I have heard that the "Bog Standard" ones are pretty crap China imports, I was hoping to get some NOS ones (Not sure what make they used then) or upgrade to a quality make, Munroe Koni Gaz or similar. I just don't want to pay £150 for each! I will check the Club shop to see if they have some non-adustable ones as Doug suggested Aidan
  4. Thanks Doug - Did look on the shop website, but couldn't see any non-adjustables, fallen in to the trap of WYSIWYG ! Ha Remember that expression/????? I Will call Garth closer to the time I was going to get most if not all the equipment from the club anyway in one of the 10% off deals (Should I be saying this ??) in the winter Aidan
  5. The suspension turret bushes were fine although a little tired btw Aidan
  6. Hi Ben Well yes and no!! I have been able to minimise the noise by changing the tyre size from 185/60 to 175/70. The tyres needed replacing any way. The noise still occurs but only in certain circumstances where I think the suspension is bottoming out or getting close to that point. I am planning a front suspension rebuild this winter with new springs shocks and bushes so am hoping this will finally stop the remainder of the noise and the squeaks I also get. By the way does anyone know what quality shocks I should use? Don't particularly want adjustable ones but there doesn't seem to be anything else on the market without breaking the bank and are not more expensive than adjustables Aidan
  7. Hi So you have a pertronix 1169 electronic ignition unit there. Can you confirm there is a magnetic ring under the rotor arm ? Doug is right about the firing order it's completely wrong. Looks like you have 1 2 6 5 3 4 ugh! But no spark suggests something else as well Two wires positive and negative to the pertronix unit look to be correct The positive one should be the only change to the standard wiring diagram. Sorry not sure what the blue device is Hope that helps a little Aidan
  8. Thanks Doug - but how do you fit the bottom part around the lower wishbone? Surely you would have to release and remove it before fitting the lower wishbone otherwise the bottom plate would be stuck around the bottom of the shocker (Sorry still being dumb and missing something really obvious!!)
  9. Paul / All I have been looking into purchasing the club ones as I need to buy some for this winters task of replacing all the bushes in my front suspension. BUT how the ??? do they work? they seem to have a solid plate at each end (admittedly with a hole in) but how do they fit around the shocker? Or am I being dim? Aidan
  10. Hi I remember a thread on here in respect of the clutch release arm being bent and therefore the clutch not dis-engaging even though the hydraulics were working I'm not sure this is the answer but it would certainly be worth a look. I'm sure someone will put me right if I have gone off on a tangent!! ????
  11. If you find its a cylinder then do change both. When did you last bleed the brakes? I had a fluid flow issue with my offside rear but was able to clear it by removing the flex pipe and pumping the brakes with a couple of refills of the master cylinder Aidan
  12. Ditto Johns solution. Dave should be able to help I know hers had quite a few 1500's in lately Aidan

    Mechanics Vice

Sorry as for the material - Purchased a length of Ground Flat Stock with similar dimensions. Bolts were a complete buggar to get out though - Anyone tried using heat to remove a bolt from a vice.... Aidan

Finally finished making these this evening. As always had to buy all the right bits to do it but still a lot cheaper than buying them even if I could have got hold of the right ones! Aidan
  16. Paddocks have free ecconmy shipping over ten pounds Not much difference but every little helps Aidan
  17. I was advised not to re-use the seal but new ones are cheap Aidan
  18. HA Confused me again - Two nuts? until I just looked at the parts diagram! - I am pretty sure mine has just got a nylock nut on and not two separate ones! So No:64 is the thing I should be investigating then Thx
  19. Thanks Pete, Light bulb moment on the "Cones", Now I know what's being talked about, the cones I replaced about six months ago to poly ones as the bonnet was not sitting correctly aligned. Its probably not this then as the noise was there before and after the change - but I will have a play bouncing on the bonnet to see if I can replicate the sound. As BEn says though, another pair of ears from the club may well be the route to finding the source I will take a look at the bush, If I remove the top centre bolt can I replace from there if I jack up the car or do I need to strip the suspension down? I was going to do this in nthe winter as my next project as allthe bushes are pretty old in the front suspension - possibly original or at least from the 1980's! Aidan
  20. Pete I will check that out. If it's not straight what's the solution? Will anything have been damaged? Ben Sorry can you give me some more direction on this. Where abouts are these cones? Thx Aidan
  21. Oh. And it's only on the nearside of the car not offside Aidan
