  1. Hi everybody, I'm selling my 1963 mk1 Vitesse as I don't have the time to finish it. I would like it to go to a TSSC member to ensure it gets the treatment it deserves but don't know where to advertise it for the best results. I do have quite a few pictures of the car in its current state on my phone and camera but don't know how to put them onto my (wifes) laptop so interested parties can see them. Sorry. I'm hoping that if somebody who reads this and knows anyone who might be interested in buying my car that they will pass this message on to them. Thanks, Rob

  2. Hi everyone, hope you are all well and living the dream with your Triumphs. I haven't been on the forum for quite a while (life getting in the way) but have been using my Vitesse when possible. The reason I'm writing this is because I am going to sell my 1963 mk 1 Vitesse. It has had quite a lot of work done to it but will need more. I have the interior for it in my mk2 but want to get the original seats recovered and a new mk2 carpet set. The seats and carpets in my mk2 will be going with the mk1 and are in really good condition. I would like enough money to sort my mk2 interior out if possible. I do have pictures of both cars but don't know how to put them on here. Sorry. If anybody knows someone who may be interested in buying my mk1 I would appreciate it if you could make them aware of this. Sorry if I'm putting this in the wrong place on the forum.                                 Cheers, Rob

  3. Cheers chaps, it'll probably be the weekend before I get chance to look at the wiper blades but thanks for all your advice. I'll let you all know how I get on. Regards, Rob
  4. Hi again folks, Yes it's great to be able to drive it again. Took it for a short run yesterday and all is well (mostly). Although the wiper blades are new, they aren't very good at keeping rain off the screen so that will need sorting, but shouldn't be too difficult. Also, I will be changing from dynamo to alternator and fitting a spin off oil filter in the future, but for now I'm just going to drive my car (weather permitting). Once again, thanks for all your help everyone. Cheers, Rob
  5. Hi Pete, had to get professional help removing the studs from the manifold as I managed to snap one of them. However, crisis over and my Vitesse is back on the road again. Regarding the not working speedo, it was the speedo drive that goes into the gearbox but that too is now sorted. Thank you Pete and everyone else for all your help. Cheers, Rob
  6. Cheers Pete, looks like another parts order going in. Rob
  7. Hi all, I've managed to strip the threads on one of the studs that hold the carbs onto the manifold on my Vitesse. Does anyone know if new studs are available and if so, what's the best way to get the old ones out? I'd like to do this without removing the manifold if possible. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rob
  8. Thanks chaps, looks like another strip down and fix to do. This car just doesn't want to be driven. Ah well, here we go again. 😠
  9. Hi folks, could this be the same problem I'm having with my Vitesse? I can't see any fuel leaking from the carbs themselves, but it is leaking from the air filter box at the rear so the carb(s) must be doing something they shouldn't be doing. Could it be just new gaskets required or will it be more involved? Cheers, Rob
  10. Sorry chaps, nothing to report as rain stopped play Rob
  11. Will I need a new O ring or will I be able to reuse the original one? Another weekend job unfortunately. Rob
  12. Cheers chaps, I bought the gearbox from Canley Classics albeit a few years ago now, so I can't confirm if it was rebuilt properly or not, but coming from them I would expect so. Is it possible to remove the pinion with the 'box still in the car or will I have to take it out? Also, how difficult is it to remove the pinion. Rob
  13. Hi chaps, took speedo cable, angle drive and the part of the gearbox that the angle drive fastens to, off the car which revealed the shaft that the angle drive cable fits into. With the engine running and in gear, the shaft isn't turning so there must be something wrong inside the 'box. Are there any replacement parts that I can buy to fix this and if so, how do I do it? Cheers, Rob
  14. I'll check to see if the gearbox internal drive is working ok at the weekend. Maybe connecting the speedo cable direct to the 'box would help me detect this? Ah well, onwards and upwards. Cheers, Rob
  15. Hi chaps, I can make the speedo work by spinning the end of the cable with my fingers and also when the angle drive is fitted to the end of the speedo cable. It's only when they're connected to the gearbox that I get no reading on the speedo. I'll try to fit another washer between the drive and the 'box at the weekend and I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers, Rob
  16. Cheers Pete, there seems to be a copper washer in the angle drive fixes to the gearbox but it doesn't appear to come out. Is this the one you mean or should there be a separate one? Rob
  17. Hi folks, The horns seem to be ok at the moment after a bit of adjustment of the column. However, I've still got no working speedo despite trying all sorts of things. I'm wondering if there is a bit of a old cable end stuck in the part that the gearbox that the angle drive fixes onto. The speedo cable is new but the old one worked fine when the car was taken off the road, and as I said before, I can make it work when the angle drive is fitted to the speedo cable and turn that by hand. I'm thinking about taking the part that the drive fixes onto the gearbox off the car and trying to see if there's anything inside that should not be there. What are your thoughts on this and what problems am I likely to encounter? Cheers, Rob
  18. Cheers chaps, I'll try both tips at the weekend. Rob
  19. Hi folks, Can anyone advise me as to why my horns blast while I'm driving my car? It only seems to happen when the steering wheel is turned to the right and I need to cure it because I fear my wife might die because she's laughing so much. Talk about embarrassment. Also, my speedo (not swimming trunks) isn't working. It registers when I turn the end of the cable and also when I connect it to the angle drive but not when connected to the gearbox, so I'm assuming it's something to do with that end. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Rob.
  20. Cheers chaps, thanks for the ideas. Looks like some more research (and possibly shopping) is needed. Don't tell the wife. Rob
  21. Thanks for that Gengis, your wheels are very smart. How long did it take them to do the job? Rob
  22. Hello everyone, Does anybody know if soda blasting is a good way of getting the original coating off Minilite alloy wheels? I would like to paint mine in graphite or black but want to leave the edge polished if possible. I've started to strip one wheel by hand but it's going to take forever to do that. I don't want to sandblast them as it would make the surface too pitted (past experience). I understand that soda is a much kinder and thought it might be better for alloys. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Rob.
  23. Hi folks, can anyone tell me which fixings are used to fasten the front grille to the headlamp panel on a mk2 Vitesse? My panel has what look like 3 captive nuts along the bottom which I assume are for small bolts, but the top has 3 slotted brackets with no nuts. Do I have to use spires and self tapping screws to secure the top of the grille to the panel or is there some other form of fixing? Any help in solving this problem will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Rob
