  1. I sold my gt6 a while ago and have just got around to listing remaining items on ebay. The link below should take you to one item and the you can see sellers other items to see the rest. Apologies if it isn’t allowed to do this but I’m only trying to help if anyone is interested in them. Thought I would raise it here as I think it is pistons in the park with the TR register at lincoln show ground this coming weekend and my house is just literally down the road for anyone wanting to collect. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323314180346?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649 Thanks steve
  2. Fortunately the V5 carries the correct numbers so is ok on that front. It was subject to a restoration about 16 years ago and I suspect the person has used the best bits from a second car. My main concern was that it may lead to issues in future but I've no intention of moving it on anyway having only just got it and I'd like to do a few upgrades myself at some point so it will never be a pure original car anyway. Thanks for the replies.
  3. I recently purchased a mk2 gt6 without much research I must admit. Having now got it I've purchased the originality book and have found that the chassis/commission number quoted is an earlier mk2 but the body is a later one with the black windscreen surround, number plate/reverse light cluster, plastic grill etc. It doesn't particularly bother me as I love the car but is this likely to cause me problems in future if ever I did come to sell it or anything? Thanks in advance for your advice/views.
  4. I'm really no expert in these things but if you come to a standstill does it cut out altogether? If so it sounds just like the breather problem I had on my gt6 when I purchased it but which was soon resolved by running a hose down away from the engine instead of the little pancake air filter that was attached to the breather on the rocker cover. I'm not saying it is this but the symptoms certainly sound similar. At least it gives you something else to consider or rule out.
  5. Thanks John, I think I sort of follow what you are saying, if you could take a wider view picture that would be great. I wasn't actually talking about the aperture in my original post but the tailgate itself. Thinking logically I've actually no idea why there is a hole in the top as surely water can only get in through it and then not escape. Maybe I'll try to dry out as best I can wax inside and then put a rubber hung in the hole. Wish I'd taken some pictures myself now so will try to do this when I get home. Steve
  6. I attended a small local show at the weekend which was made smaller by the horrendous weather albeit each car attending got a free jet wash as a result of doing so! Anyway, it was the first time since I've owned the car that it has been out in such conditions and I was really pleased to find it nice and dry inside. The only thing I noticed this morning as I lifted the rear hatch is that there is a small hole in the top where water ran out. Not a major issue but I couldn't help but think the drainage holes should surely be in the bottom otherwise it will trap water in the bottom of the hatch. Does that seem logical or am I misunderstanding something, I presume it would be a case of drilling a couple of holes as appropriate.
  7. I've clearly opened myself up for criticism here haven't I?! To be fair I wasn't aware of the consequences so will look into the solution you have mentioned. To be honest when I got the car there was a short piece of pipe with a mini air filter on the end but as the car got up to temperature the running went all lumpy and then wouldn't start. Adding the long hose seemed to cure this. I'd be happy to install the original fittings/pipes but have assumed it would go back to running rough again although I don't know why given it was designed like this! Will attempt to make myself less anti-social over the weekend! Steve
  8. Pete That's really helpful and it is a whine sound so hopefully ok. I'm not sure what you mean about drive to overrun? I have noticed that acceleration in first gear gets it to the point where when changing up to 2nd the car almost slows down initially as I release the clutch pedal as if I'm coming down through the gears rather going up, but maybe the noise change creates this perception. It does seem to go once I accelerate in 2nd. Maybe I'm working first gear too hard? To be honest with a six cylinder engine pushing such little weight (the car not me!) I could probably drive it almost exclusively in 4th and just flick the overdrive lever now and then!!!! Have to say it's a very different experience to my other old car which is a vw camper so 4 cylinders pushing a brick! Thanks Steve
  9. Mine is identical to John. I have a pipe from the rocker cover to under the car and it is much better.
  10. I couldn't help but notice this evening that when in second gear in my mk2 gt6 the box sounds more noisy than in any other gear. Is this normal or is it something I need to be worried about? Sorry as I feel this is a complete inexperience question but equally if I don't ask I'll never know! Thanks Steve
  11. Thanks Pete. I'm not doing high mileage so if it will be ok for a short period may be I will run it as is until the Autumn and then change it over the winter period. Hopefully that will be ok. Steve
  12. Ok, so I'm new to gt6 ownership so I'm slowly working many way through service related items so that I know where I stand with things. I have a mk2 although for the point below it probably doesn't matter. A couple of weeks ago I had the gearbox tunnel off to replace the gearstick bushing. At the same time I emptied and refilled the gearbox oil and also topped up the rear diff. Today I reached for the oil as I was going to oil the trunnions. Well I couldn't help but notice that what I have been sold is 80/90 but is GL5 a I'm sure everything I have seen says it should be GL4. Do I need to drop it our again and replace? I'm so annoyed about this if I have to replace it as not only is it time and cost but I got it over the counter at rimmers and they knew it was for a gt6 as they even gave me a copy of the catalogue! It is comma 80/90 gl5. Advice please! Thanks Steve
  13. I'm not sure what size steels I have, I'll have to check, but they are the ones with the holes all around the outside of the rim. I then have the chrome centres which I presume you call knave plates. I do think polished up these would look really good so may be I will give it a go as I'm sure I'm never going to get everything back to original on the car particularly quickly! On the subject of original parts, if anyone comes across a rear seat or for some reason is getting rid of one do let me know, I'm trying to get my wife out to drive the car but unless I can accommodate our children it just isn't going to happen and soon they will be too big to squeeze in! Thanks for all of your replies, they haven been really helpful. Steve
  14. Clive that's really helpful thanks and given that the trims cover up the wheels I may not need to get them refurbished straight away. No doubt finding a set of trim won't be easy. I did watch some in eBay over the weekend but although they said they were for a gt6 when I asked I had been told they were for 15" wheels not 13". Maybe I'll find some at Newark auto jumble next week! Cheers Steve
  15. I do. And is there then a particular colour that would mean the look original if powder coated or would it have varied? Thanks Steve
