    Daily drivers.

I did 174k miles in my Land Rover - averaged 24mpg. Highest ever on a tank was 30. Once. 🤣 - Lowest about 17 towing a twin axle caravan to the Le Mans Classic. Though would have been a lot lower when offroad- but never for a full tank. Was a great load lugger too. Massive inside.
  2. Badwolf, to be fair you probably are right, even though the car is only 3 years old. It also includes PI cover as well.
  3. My Modern is just over £300 with LV - that's with legal and protected no claims (That totals £55) - thats for me and the missus and 25k miles a year. Actually less than the insurance for my camera gear 🤪

    1500 flywheels

It is and I had a right game getting a new one sorted - they had to fit a new gear to mine to get it to fit correctly - They being Powerlite in Brierly hill. Luckily not too far from me. Interestingly, they do show the RAC801 as being suitable for many Triumphs - but I suspect its not correct..... Powerlite - Suppliers of Starter Motors and Alternators (powerlite-units.com)

    1500 flywheels

If I haven't done it by this time tomorrow, give me a poke - I will have forgotten! I know exactly where it is - just couldn't get to it today for several reasons!

    1500 flywheels

Mine has a Dolly flywheel and pre-engaged starter - that was a nightware when it packed up! Anyway. I do also have a spitfire flywheel in the garage - but it would cost a fortune to send to Belguim. But can measure it up easily enough.

    Daily drivers.

I couldn't use mine as a daily - it does 30+ but it would be wrecked in no time doing 25k a year - not to mention I couldn't get all I need for work in it. Not to mention the fuel economy of my daily is 50+
  8. Rads in the spit 1500 were marginal at best when new. I fitted a wide one from canley classics a year a so ago. Works well. and a fixed fan. Viscous should work well but they can cause issues if they fail.

    Disc

Used to do my landrover - which had a metal undertray (It was offroaded!) and used to do it. I have 4 ramps - though modern cars won't go up all four at once as they are too low - the Land Rover did - just low range (saved falling off the end!) and drive up. So I just jack up the two ends and drop them on whenever i need to work under it when not doing wheel work. Its whether the £100 saved is worth it or if I'd rather do something else more interesting!

    Disc

Had mine serviced yesterday - brakes are 60% worn front rear 70% - rear will need new disks when they are replaced. So should get another 20k out of them given they have done over 53k. I might do the oil service myself next time as it really is money for old rope.

Middle comment is key! I may have said before - quite possible as I have a memory of a nat - my current modern rear discs are going to need to be replaced soon. Probably at the next service which is due. Pads **I Think** are fine from a quick look look through the wheel spokes. The reason for the replacement is due to vibration (Its more of a noise rather than a physical feeling) caused I think by the active cruise control which mostly (Only?) uses the rear brakes to slow when needed. I've thought about doing them myself - I used to do my Land Rover ones - but you need the diagnostics tool to set them up again. And I haven't got one.
  12. Yes you can - but the direction arrows are wrong - you can change the end I think though. I did mine with a LHD one but can't for the life of me think what I did!
  13. Some years ago due to contacts within the NEC, another club I'm in got a "free" stand at one of the shows. Cost £2k as the electric point and stand wasn't included.

The rear brakes in mine being the "worst" ones are due to the active cruise control - it uses the rear brakes apparently to slow down if reducing the power is not enough.

Thats a fair point- my daily - a Skoda Superb - has done nearly 52k miles and is on the same pads and disks - and it is the rear disks that are going to need replacing in the not too distant future - pads are actually ok - though obviously would be changed at the same time. My disco would generally do two pad changes to one disk change. Fronts I got down to 1 1/2hours for a full disk and pad change from starting to getting the tools back in the garage - about 1/2 that for a pad only change. Rears took another 1/2 hour or so as the handbrake needed cleaning and adjusting to avoid issues.
  16. I did a job years ago to upgrade the old controller to a new one - cursory look at the panel insued and I was issued with the panel drawings. Marked up the drawings for the new kit and gave it to the site spark (More than a spark and actually has gone on to be an excellent controls engineer!) - he came back later with it all done, but said that he had to work it all out again as the controllers in the panel weren't the ones fitted as they had been upgraded previously! The panel in question has since been ripped out during a plant update!
  17. I hate the new (I say new - they have been out for years!) colour systems - makes absolutely no sense to me (Less even than GB/UK!) - Especially when you have 3 blacks for the live 3 phases with just a marker for the actual phase on the end! As for UK single phase voltages - mine is all over the places. This is mine today.
  18. No it couldn't have been phased in as its something the Goverment applies to the UN for and seems to be only one official monicer is allowed. Was a bit of a cock up to go from GB with the EU rings to GB with the union flag to UK in just 9 months - but I do understand the logic of the UK change to encompase NI - as mentioned by Clive. The AA are moaning amongst others having got a shed load of GB badges made up. Given the lack of being able to go abroad for the last 9months seems like they jumped too quickly when there was no real demand
  19. The last test that my Spitfire went through and passed eventually - was largely due to the testers inability to adjust the carbs - now to be fair as a test they shouldn't have adjusted them as that isn't there remit - but they did try and totally balls them up - idle was too high and they adjusted one and not the other and didn't release the choke cable first.
  20. I’m not keen on his latest tbh. Too much faffing around. There are various good YouTube channels that are much better. One is a Canadian one which they are fitting a LS v8 into a Gt6. Enjoyable and was a basket case and will be a nice when it’s done. Another car has been saved with the chassis they rebuilt before having a change of plan. I digress. 🤣
  21. Edd China put a Range Rover into the MOT to see how bad it was - initially the tester refused to test it - they was persuaded to do so - Had a list of 40 failures and a few advisories. Why he put it in I don't know, because a blind man with a blind dog could have seen 99% of the faults picked up.
  22. Yeah that confuses the ECU - used to put the Disco into fault mode. Never found the need to left foot brake to be honest. Hand brake was handy at times - though don't try it with an EPB in a Land Rover or Range Rover.🤣
  23. Funnily enough it doesn’t bother me. I jump from my auto to a manual and back and never have to think about the leg. left hand drive cars are the same. Only driven a few and only one in the U.K. but just do it. Biggest issue i had was when I drove a hire car in Spain when I was about 21 or 22. Kept driving in the gutter for the first hour or so because I was trying to drive on the right hand side of the road forgetting that there was another 4 or 5 feet of car to my right. 🤣
  24. I thought that too. But it did my head in 🤣
  25. I find when backing out of the garage that I hit the clutch rather than the brake - have resorted to the handbrake before now when I couldn't work out why it wasn't slowing!
