  1. I was at Hockenheim the other week as I have said elsewhere - I didn't think there were many Triumphs there - but there actually were a fair few. I'm still going through the shots I took - but also have another couple of events to sort too as well as being busy at work (And not at home ) So a small sample of pictures (TBH the views are fairly good for spectating, but not great for photos - unlike Spa which is fab!) # Not a Triumph, but I liked the shot!
  2. Sniff test. Grease will smell like well grease. Brake fluid won’t. And if you have some in a opened tin already you can compare the smells. Unless you already know the difference. Not sure I can describe the smells tbh 😳
  3. Funnily enough I was in a hotel last night in Blackheath (nice hotel tbf though parking was crap). But they blocked not a website but I assume the ports to a iot site I manage. Probably just allow the common ports.
  4. Had a bit of time to fire up the car this evening. Not taken it for a drive yet but it runs sweet. Almost no choke is required when starting it either. Mind you it is quite warm. And it lives in the garage. No steam when started up and took a few minutes to start doing it. Water level is to the top of the rad so I’M pretty sure it’s just residue. Ill try and get it out on the weekend - early to avoid the masses and give it a blast. Hopefully this video is better. In so far as it’s the right way around!
  5. Latex 😳. I only ever use nitrile ones. Without powder. No idea if I’m allergic but don’t want to find out the hard way 😂 i often double bag too. Stops some of the muck if the top one splits there is another underneath to keep my delicate pinkies clean. 🤪
  6. I’ve fitted single pronge Bosch plug to my spitfire - can’t comment on their efficacy yet as it’s not really run due to potential issues. Would have been nice to get out it in tonight but thibgs just get in the way.
  7. I'm wondering if this is not the reason. I have a "cherry" bomb silencer in the middle of the exhaust, which will be full of a fibrous material - and will absorb a fair bit of water I assume. Would also explain why it takes some time to appear.
  8. Are you sure its a standard fitment? My 77 doesn't have one, it relies on the ones on the carbs alone.
  9. And one of the water level. Phone was the worng way around as well this time!
  10. I've just been out into the garage and had a look - hard to tell regarding water level - as I know it wasn't brimmed before I went out. But it is still above the fins. So I fired it up again. Still sounds pretty good. And no steam for some while not till it warmed up - I would expect it to come out as steam fairly quickly given the temperature in the cylinders? So, I've done another video - on its side again 🙄 I've topped up the level as well now, so will look when its cooled again. And go for a run at some time - but won't be today as I have to do other things And it started on the button. No choke either so probably still running a bit rich. Timing is about right too.
  11. I’ve not looked yet. Been sulking. And watching the Birmingham velo. Ill look now it’s cooled down and after I’ve finished cutting the grass.
  12. Yes I would have said so. Which I don’t understand. The only place it can come from is the head gasket I’d have thought? I would have thought any water lying in the exhaust itself would have blown out on the drive. The engine weirdly sounds pretty good.
  13. No smell at all really. Water is my guess. Just don’t know why.
  14. Checked the head bolts this morning and took it out for a spin. Its not well. Plumes of white smoke out of the exhaust. Idles ok and drives ok - but smokes like a pig. At a loss now. Going to sulk for a while
  15. @ 2000rpm (at least on the spit but I think common) the oil pressure is specs as 50psi when warm. Yours sounds fine on that basis.
  16. That’s what Fuzz Townsend has tried to do. Aren’t many in a town as big as Birmingham.
  17. Steve, that is my point really. Need to be used and looked after. And in my case its not the money, as I've said before my local does it for £15 - but they don't know the vagaries of classics - properly cocked up my carbs last time. When I get a minute, I'll get them to check the brakes as a third party.
  18. Spot the muppet trying to keep off a tree.
  19. Mot proves nothing. Except the day you drive off with a shiner new one. An example. Mot the car on January 1st. Doesn’t move until May. Goes out have a drive around. Doesn't move until November. Goes out and has a crash. But says driver I have an mot certificate to say it’s roadworthy. Ah says plod. But your brakes failed therefore you haven’t maintained the vehicle. The mot is worthless. But I don’t say it shouldn’t be looked over by someone else. And a brake test. But really when a car isn’t driven regularly, that’s when it all goes wrong. Regular maintenance is key. After a long layoff (could be a week, could be a month) everything should be checked over. The Highway Code says you should do a steering and brake test every time you go out as well as check lights. Who does that in their modern let alone their classic?
  20. I’m of the opinion that it is our duty as citizens to pay the least amount of tax as is legally possible. If they (the government) make the rules then it is up to us to apply them in the right manner. I may then decide to directly contribute to charities but that is my choice. So avoidance is right, evasion wrong.
  21. The other one to check I oil temperature sensor - been known to cause issues of a similar nature on land rovers - if you can read the live values via a diagnostic tool it could save some money.
  22. John, yes I have - they are mad. And it will only get worse as the car takes over more and more of the driving! Have you seen Arthur Tussik? Repairing said smashed up cars? Skills are amazing - just not sure I'd want to trust the car again! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJDyqaoyVtWKhCiTPZVOoyA
  23. Driving standards in the uk are appalling. I do a lot of driving - I’ve had my new modern a month today and have done nearly 2000miles - would have been more had I not stopped away from home last week (and this week coming) i also went to Germany last weekend - not my car but a hired one (e class merc as it happens) and driving on the autobahns was a much more pleasant experience compared to over here. Even doing the speeds that they tend to do - cruise at 115mph with a peak of 130 and everything felt ok (yes I know anything can go tits up very fast at those speeds ) and was pretty relaxing - especially compared to the m25 and m40 on the return leg where 70 felt dodgy
  24. Got it running again this morning. i replaced the spark plugs with some Bosch ones and also changed the leads. Nothing wrong with the old ones - club ones - but they didn’t feel as if they were holding the plug snug. So I had some other new ones that have a shorter rubber end and you can feel the click as they press home started it up but it didn’t really run right. Felt too rich. (Choke on) so had a mess with the carbs and reset the needle heights and reset the choke idle screws restarted and it sounds so much nicer now. Idles lovely and once off choke then idled too high so reset that and reset the choke cams. There is a slight leak from the top hose so need to reseat that when it’s cooled down but for now that is it for today. Before I run it again I’m going to retorque the head down - don’t what a repeat if I can avoid it ! Video doesn’t really do it justice E603716F-83DD-4DEB-8047-5922B52ACE80.MOV
  25. I found that site and saw the jags. It’s not a brilliant site to be fair. 🤔
