  1. I went for a drive out yesterday. To a photoshoot I was involved in and managed to get the car into the story.

Surely the limit depends on the track? I'm sure at Mira the limit was 98db (antilag not allowed) - other venues are 100db - and Le Mans was higher than that - so the BMW M whatever rear engined car could run with basically 2 3" or 4" pipes off the manifold through the turbos and out the back - they had another exhaust for noise limited tracks that apparently twisted around the engine bay to get the silencers in and also robbed them of a measurable amount of power.
  3. If you must solder (I don't like it for several reasons) then make sure its acid free. But IMHO crimps are much better and its how the industry connects wires together.
  4. Many moderns are higher than that (15+) to reduce current for a given power - so high that they have to soft start halogen bulbs so they don't blow on startup!
  5. Yes across the battery terminals - should see around 12.4v with the engine off and rising to over 14v when at a fast idle - from memory anyway
  6. I prefer to use thin wall in my cars. Carries more current for a given size.
  7. Must admit, I have gone for a bespoke option - basically two relays and suitable wiring of the correct colours and connectors etc. Went for relays with twin make and break contacts (two terminal 87's) for neater wiring to each headlamp. Just got to get around to fitting them! Like the fuse box that has been in stock for 2 years
  8. I had my head done a couple of years ago and I asked then if the seats had recessed - and the answer was a definite yes - I suspect the PO had done some work and reseated the valves and cut out any memory.
  9. Scrap yards are nothing like what they used to be. You can no longer (or at least not around here) go and have a rummage. They are now dismantlers - mostly to document the amount they recycle I suspect - that and elf and safety.
  10. They may to a degree. But I’m the main they would look at the particular section they are interested in and do a search. or at least I did. I moderated plenty of forums and even Facebook groups. And the numbering system does get to be more of a thing to aim at rather than be anything of significant use.
  11. You have a choice as a forum. Lock it down to be only about triumphs and their upkeep repair and social events. Or you don't. The first will kill it quicker than a hungry fox in a hen house. I for one won't come here very often if that is the case. Keeping it civil and an element of fun will keep it going. But perhaps politics and religion should be banned. Including in the joke section. And does anyone seriously look at post count and rank for experience? Takes about 2 minutes to look in the technical sections to work it out. Many people on here have experience and post little - or have experience in a small area and not others.
  12. Its actually a link ti Mintylamb that has found a new home. www.mintylamb.co.uk/suneedle/
  13. Interesting - I went on the MOSS site for the references which are different - so the graph revised with ABT, ADN AAR and ABS which is what was suggested for my Spit And yes, that is a tubular exhaust.
  14. Alan, there is a windows program called WinSu which allows you to enter the cars details and any modifications and it will then select some suitable needles and springs - obviously keeping everything standard will give you factory - which are either ADT or ABT depending on late or early 1500. I think early is the Mk4 and late the 1500. If you take the needles out of the carb - the reference is stamped into the end of the needle. On the attached the red line is "standard" for my car and the other 4 lines the next suggested needles for the spec of my car - not a lot of difference!
  15. Found a wiring diagram......... L359-09MY_JOB1_ENGINEERING_LHD.book (freel2.com) LHD but can't be much different. Can it? Not that it helps you actually find it!
  16. Clock spring is often a cause of many a fault if my experience of Land Rovers is to go by.
  17. Like a fecking oven here today. 😂 But meant I was out in the spitfire and a 40ish mile round trip.
  18. Another trip out today. This time to take my dads ashes to the crem at Warwick before he gets scattered tomorrow. First and the last time he has been in it. He was going to have a ride when it was finished. I even washed and polished it this morning This shot is when we got back to my mums
  19. The other issue is that driving so slowly especially (I’m thinking more the 20mph zones) in modern cars is that the are so easy to drive you stop concentrating properly and miss the important things if you aren’t careful.
  20. I didn't think I'd been that light footed! I had a at least one run on the motorway (A mistake!) so was running at 70mph for a good while! Trouble is around here that the speed limits are being reduced all the time - what used to be a 60limit near here is now a 30 - it was reduced to 40 fairly soon after it was re-opened. Despite no houses being directly on the road - all down to some child not looking and getting killed - so rather than re-enforce education - Green Cross Code and all that - just penalise the motorist. Loads more are now 50 from 60 - for no apparent reason. And many, particularly Birmingham which are 20. I'm actually thinking of driving into Brum tomorrow in the Spitfire - the day the new charge comes in, because the Spit is exempt
  21. Been out - about a 20miles round trip. But had to get fuel. Put 32ltrs in and got 33mpg. Happy with that. and it seems to drive ok. Needs to settle some more though. But wheels do look to be very slightly sticking out at the bottom.
  22. Fitted a 1/2” lowering block this morning. wasn’t a bad job and Pete I did look briefly at the idea of cutting it - but decided to just drop the shock lower mounts and the upper spring mounts - i bought new nuts and bolts anyway so a change was on the cards. Took a bit of wiggling to get the bolts started - used a Allen key to find the hole and then a long bolt to start the first. Double nutted the studs and got them all in and tightened up with new nuts. The studs were new too. off to test it this afternoon when I pick up the MIL and then my Mum for tea. Need to get some fuel first though. Not filled it since august last year.
  23. I would guess the braid is noted to limit the expansion possibilities - though I would have thought a short flexy at both ends and a solid in the middle better - depending on how its all sitting!
