  1. Hi Doug. No rough running. When I turned it off all was good. Could be ignition but I come back to the fact that the problem only just occurred this once, but the engine runs well. I think it’s very likely linked to one the 2 unusual events. 1 that I almost flattened the engine starting it that day after a few week gap, when all I needed to do was prime the pump first. And 2. I filled up to 3/4 of the tank, 1st time with this replacement tank, not pre treated. But same fuel. I have no idea what a biased ignition system is!! It’s ‘normal’! Rich
  2. Hi Mathew. Possibly but I don’t think it’s the likely cause as I have been driving no problem up to this incident. No e10, I am using premium only. My car always starts easily (except this once)
  3. Wow. It’s a very small model. It looks better very small!!!
  4. Thanks for all the good suggestions Chris. Seems like the most likely reason is crud from the fill up otherwise a little too coincidental. Funny that it happened after I stopped though (no misfiring) And was fine after it later started. All my lines are new and use ethanol resistant rubber pipes where appropriate. My filter in in the line just ahead of the pump. I expect the carbs are ok as I just rebuilt them. First thing I looked at was for loose wires. Looked fine but will check again. Running as sweet as a nut right now!
  5. Electronic ignition is newtronic. I bought it about 25 years ago but has had little use (although I did have to put a join in the optic cable after it was cut). I’m pretty sure the join (soldered joints) is fine. What would you expect could be affected by heat soak that would cause the problem? I have frequently encountered the starter motor struggling after a short stop before but only for 1 or 2 turns then it spins normally. Always a concern that one, but the engine is still running in (300 miles only) so I’m assuming the engine will loosen up? cheers Rich
  6. Possible. I cleaned out the tank best I could* but the tank did have some rust in and this is the first time with a near full tank. But why would it solve itself after 20 mins? * Originally I used a rust converter but had to replace that tank in a hurry after it developed a rust hole (!) so all I managed was a swish out with Petrol of the replacement.
  7. Thanks Kevin but definitely off (I’d know as it idles like a train pending adjustment!)
  8. Hi all Since restoring my GT6 (completed this year) my car has been as good as gold starting. But today I had a problem which I can’t see any obvious explanation for. As I haven’t driven the car for about 2 weeks, turned over quite a few times before the fuel got through the system. The battery did suffer a bit as a result but all was running fine so off I went (note to self always prime the pump after a period of non use). First stop petrol station where unusually I filled it to 3/4 full (1st time since rebuild). Started fine. Next stop Sainsbury’s, 5 mins turned off, turned over fine but would not start or even bite. In the end battery started struggling. Baffled. Left it for 20 mins whilst I nipped home (courtesy of a very kind fellow shopper) to get some tools. Tried again without doing anything, started on the key.😮 - Electronic ignition - Low mileage inline fuel filter (ahead of pump) Any ideas? Thanks all. TSSC advice always the best. Can’t be looking like a classic car loser at Sainsbury’s!! On the positive side had some lovely comments at the petrol station. Some very nice people out there 😏 Rich
  9. He’s not on Facebook himself, nor does he read the TSSC forums btw. - but he was very pleased with the 350 likes on FB on my wife’s post of my car and all the comments 🙂🙂
  10. Hi Henk. Thank you. WRT Pete, it’s complicated! But basically he decided he didn’t want anything more to do with YouTube or videos so pulled everything. He’s still very busy (you can see his latest handiwork via Peter Jones Garage (different Peter) on TSSC Facebook page) but he is very unlikely to post anymore video unfortunately. Peter Jones has numerous Triumphs of his own and is keeping Pete busy but it’s only ever been a hobby for Pete (JadeMutly). I’ll let him know you asked after him 👍 Rich
  11. Yep, I only need an aerial converter, FM to DAB👍
  12. Hi Andybeau. Thanks for responding. Interesting as so many are powered, & this one isn’t? Rich
  13. Can anybody recommend a good one please? There are loads online but probably most are cheaply made rubbish. many thanks Rich
  14. Thanks for all the great comments. Still smiling 😁
  15. OMG 😩😩😩 Somebody’s going to benefit big time from your hard work!
  16. Thanks, yes we have a fridge /Freezer in the Garage. Can’t help but chuckle to myself every time I go out there 😂😂. I really can’t believe it!!
  17. Thanks all. I am so pleased to be back driving my old car! Hopefully make it to an event or two this year and catch up with some of you. 👍
  18. Yaaay. My car 99.9% finished. Been out driving for the first time in nearly 20 years. 37 years of ownership, literally my baby! You can imaging the ear to ear smile on my face 😁 Absolutely loving it, driving really well - better than I remember! Thanks so much to my good mate Pete Dunne (AKA Jade Muttley) who took a completely knackered GT6 shell a brought it back to as good as new. Although I pride myself in having rebuilt the car twice before myself, my standard was 100% off his, hence the ground up rebuild. Some of you may have followed the rebuild on youtube. This build has included a chassis replacement, engine recondition and a LOT of new parts. The car now has leather seats (recovered by an upholsterer mate). I also covered the dash pad in leather and most other vinyl parts including the rear panels (which all looks and smells amazing). My beautiful little car looks absolutely stunning and drives amazingly. I AM SO HAPPY for me AND my Car!!! Thanks to all the advice the forum have given me - all very valuable and highly appreciated. I still have a few jobs to do but none too important. THANK YOU! BTW, the SAH rocket cover I bought new 30 years ago. The rear seat I extracted from a Triumph breakers also around 30 years ago. Good investments in hindsight! Rich Some pics.
  19. No they are not interchangeable. Mk2 & 3 completely different. The Mk 3 had a bevelled rear edge along its length (as spit 4, 1500). Later Mk1 were as the mk2 but early mk1 were different. One I purchased for my mk2 looked identical to my original but like you found, the demist slots didn’t align. In fact the caps did not cover the holes properly. I discovered this after I covered it off the car. In this case it was because the foam moulding was set slightly differently around the slots. The metal frame was identical. I’m not sure if this is the difference between early mk1 and later mk1 But in the pic in the parts manual they look completely different! Note that the mk3 spit dash top is not interchangeable with a mk2 GT6 either.
  20. The original. Sorry to spend forum time on such a minor thing...
