  1. Yes I am a member through my travel insurance cover via Barclays Bank. I asker the RAC patrol man about the costs and he said the charge is the same unless you specified additional membership cover for this.
  2. Thanks for all your sugestions, but I called the RAC this morning and they have special equiped vans and machanics who sort missfuleing. They came and pumped out the tank, fule lines and flote chambers on the carbs and then flushed them through before putting in £10 worth of unleaded. The car then splutted into life and run ok if a bit smokey. And all I had to do was give them £225 before they would come! An expensive leson learned. Grahame
  3. I have just filled my Spitfire 1500 up with Shell V-Power fuel, only to find out it was V-Power Diesel, same red gun as 97 octane unleaded at the pump. Any sugestions as to the best way to drain the tank and clean the fuel lines, pump and carbs? Many thanks, Grahame
  4. Where can I get the 3/4 to 5/8 adaptor reqired to fit a diferent oil filter with a non.return valve?
  5. Hi Pete Thanks for the prompt reply on removing the crank pulley nut. As I was going to take the engine out anyway, I removed the sump and wedged the crank, with the socket on the nut I just gave the tommy bar a couple of whacks with a club hammer and it soon came undone! Thanks again, Grahame
  6. HI All, does anyone have any sugestions how I can undo the crank pully nut on my 1500 Spitfire? I have the correct size socket with 3/4 inch drive and with the car in 4th gear, foot brake on hard and a 5ft scafold pole extention on the tommy bar it wont move! All that happens is that it winds up the transmission. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Grahame
  7. Sorry if I've confused things by referring to the hand brake as an 'emergency' brake, but I was only repeating what I was told. I will try to attend the local club meetings only I'm still getting the car ready. Replacing the drive shaft oil seals at the moment. Thanks again for the feed back. Grahame
  8. Hi Guys, thanks for the prompt replies. I have spoken to a local garage about changing from a tandem system to a single line one, and he said that it would not make any difference so long as it met the minimum requirements when put on the brake roller/tester. However, the hand brake efficiency will have to meet a higher standard as this 'emergency' brake would not also have either the front or rear brakes working if there was a leak in the system. Going down the GT6 method would still require a new master cylinder, so do you think this would be better than just fitting a single line one from the earlier 1500 model? Cheers, Grahame
  9. Hi, I am a new member and hove only had my spitfire 1500 for 10 months and would also like to fit a servo to reduce the pedal presure required being used to modern cars. However, I have the tandam braking system fitted and would therefore have to fit the single line master cylinder and do away with the PDWA valve. Have any of you tried this and if so did it work? Thanks in advance for any comments. Grahame
