  1. On reflection.of course there is nothing to stop any motor factor buying cheap cr*p off fleabay and reselling it over the counter by the yard. Not that anyone would do that, of course.
  2. I can understand the worries about old rubber and E10. I can understand using Gates fuel pipe so that you know what you are getting. What I don't understand is that surely every recent car on the road using petrol is fitted with E10 proof fuel pipes so any modern car in a scrappy should have E10 safe fuel pipe. You should be able to pick up yards of the stuff really cheaply from the local scrapyard. Even the local motor factors should be selling decent fuel pipe off the roll. I think that Colin mentioned this a little way back.
  3. Annoying that. I was looking for some a couple of years ago and couldn't find any, anywhere. Now everyone's got them...wonderful. Anyway, it's not coming out again!
  4. I have been through the whole gamut of trying to turn off Windows updates except for security add one. I have been totally unsuccessful as my setting were just ignored so I gave up..... unless, of course..... They have now been updated......by an update!!!!
  5. Got mine from Halfrauds. Got a good price with their trade card and a money off voucher. Much easier to return if there is a problem under the guarantee.
  6. For some reason I ended up with a 'pack' of clubcards, collected over a period of time and keep one in each car, my wallet and Lady BW's bag of tricks (handbag). I also have the apps on our phones which are usually flat, but the Lidl torch/power pack which I bought by accident on clearance sorts that out. Why are so many loyalty cards now an app? Much prefer a proper card...they don't go flat (yes, I know, they ARE normally flat unless used to deal with Yale locks but we don't talk about that)
  7. I would delete all the unwanted bloatware but lack the knowledge as to whether the uninstall would sabotage stuff that I want to keep. As for legacy software, I have whinged (yes, I know) many times before about no longer being able to run legal bought and paid for software or even some of those useful utility progs that you used to get of the cd that came with computer mags. The only solution is the virtual machine, running XP or similar. Sadly I now lack the expertise to set up a dual boot so just load it up as needed. Still running Office 2003 and a 1996/2000 (free upgrade due to millennium) version of QuickBooks. All paid for but the modern versions are subscription packages. What has changed in word processing (except the English language corruptions!!!) or accounting to warrant paying a fortune for upgrades/subscriptions? A friend of mine is in accounting "use Sage" says he, "Why?" Says I, does it add up differently, or just show more profit on a set of accounts?.....silence ensues!!!
  8. Hi John. Welcome. Make good use of the search function and don't be afraid to ask. This forum has saved me a fortune and increased my knowledge more than I could ever have dreamed.
  9. Lady BW hears screams of dismay from the den. Don't tell me, says she, another Windows update, shall I bring the whisky or the brandy!!??
  10. Probably a bit late on this, but I slipped a very small nut over the stem of the rivet to push the nose of the gun away from the popper and seat the head of the rivet in really close. Worked a treat until I dropped the little nut. Yes it bounced. Wonder where it is now, all those years later.

  12. Akzo Nobel also now own Hammerite (least said!!!) and Dulux.
  13. Welcome back. You have a lot of catching up to do...and I, for one, look forward to it.
  14. I agree with Peter and N/M. I had very similar experiences. Sorted by adjusting SU2 carbs and choke !inkage which was causing plugs to soot up.
  15. Dp490 is one of the best, Kent automotive, Thatcham approved is excellent too. there are other cheaper types. There is a huge list here...www.lasaero.com which I think Kevin posted in response to my adhesive tests the other year. Some are horrendously expensive but are designed to hold planes and rockets together. Look for the phrase 'structural adhesive' You could also have a read here.. https://forum.tssc.org.uk/topic/2623-on-to-the-next-bit-nose-to-tail-1972-spitfire-mkiv-restoration-upgrades/ ..look up bonnet, hardtop and adhesive bonding. Some of it is rather spread out I'm afraid.
  16. Colin - can't help but notice that none of the puzzles in your paper have even been started? Lady BW would have been all over them like a rash! No, don't bother sending them on!!
  17. And the horses have done what, for you to inflict cr*p tyres on them?
  18. We've all been there...no shame in it.
  19. Watching an old Bergerac last night. One of the characters was driving an MG painted in brown. Don't know what the official designation was but what immediately came to mind was diahorrea drab.
  20. Ok, so what have you done. Cummon, own up.
  21. For that price even adding carriage, it's not worth the petrol going out to try to find a bike shop.
  22. Yep, still have some old red that I am nurturing for 'that day'. I believe that it used to have arsenic or one of the other poisons in it in one form or another.
  23. I think my replacement water pump came from a fleabay supplier. Really fast delivery. UK based. Might have been one of the Mini spares suppliers but not sure..4 years ago!! Still got the old one. Though about getting it refurbed but probably too late now and rusted solid.
  24. You cannot put that in an engine bay. It is far to pretty. It needs a varnished wooden plinth and then displayed under spotlights.
  25. Well done Pete. Really pleased for you. You deserve it, not just for the Duxford years but for all that you have done. It is appreciated by so many and..... you have saved me pounds and pounds, for which I thank you..... Oh, and that bloke with the leprechauns too, however you spell his name??!!
