  1. Still got my special puller for removing brake drums from "sit up and beg" Fords. Not sure that I have the strength to lift it now.
  2. Sounds very like my own tookit, plenty of tools with an EnFo trademark !
  3. That is a name that I remember from my MGCC days !
  4. Found this post very useful as I have exactly the same question !
  5. Suspension now rebuilt with a replacement wishbone, spring spacers fitted to front springs and trunnions cleared of grease and refilled with gear oil. A lazer alignment check and adjustments was then undertaken followed by a short test drive. Very relieved to find that the problem with the tyre fouling the bulkhead appears to have been resolved.
  6. My thanks will give you both credit in Triumph heaven. We have now found that the steering rack adjustable clamp plates are missing ! Instead of just replacing them, I have ordered the steering rack solid mounting kit, oh, and a new accelerator cable to replace the slightly frayed existing one.
  7. Just had the grease cleaned out of the trunnions and replaced with the recommended gear oil. Unfortunately one immediately leaked so the bottom of the trunnion has had to be been sealed with araldite. Is this a common problem and possibly the reason why owners revert to grease instead of gear oil ? Nick
  8. Thanks for the brake hose comments - have now ordered a pair of new hoses.
  9. Great to meet you and your GT6 at Duxford today. Following your "new spring" comment about the raised rear end I have fitted spacers to the front springs to raise the front suspension and hopefully resolve the wheel fouling.
  10. Hi Kevin, welcome from another newbie. At least by doing it all yourself you know every inch of the car and what has or has not been replaced and with what. I am having a voyage of discovery in buying an already restored GT6 without any documented history. Nick
  11. I attach pics of the nearside front suspension now re-assemled with a 3/8" spacer on top of the spring. The mark on the lower bulkhead is where the tyre was fouling on left lock. If anyone can spot an obvious assembly fault, please shout !
  12. I will be at Duxford in a modern. I have now received my Membership pack from Angie but my newspaper subscription allows me two people for the price of one entry to IWM museums so I might take advantage of that and enter with Joe Public.
  13. Unfortunately not to be, GT6 still with suspension partially stripped out and CDSE carbs awaiting attention to stop the over-rich mixture to cylinders 1 to 3.
  14. Thanks for the suggestion regarding the shims, Pete. Again, we will give this a try.
  15. Many thanks to everyone for the various suggestions which we are currently working through. Tony is working late in an effort to get the suspension and carbs in at least a state safe enough to take the car to Duxford.
  16. I might have to jack the front up to match the rear in an effort to cure the tyre fouling the bulkhead.
  17. The elongated slot was wear through being loose, the offside was also found to be loose but not worn yet. The car was bought as a private sale.
  18. Just checked wishbones and pivot brackets as suggested and they all appear to be correctly fitted. The springs are black with no colour coding so probably standard. We will re-assemble front suspension on both sides from scratch and check result.
  19. Thanks Pete. The GT6 is with my friendly professional mechanic, Tony, who owned and rebuilt an early Vitesse over many years. Unfortunately he has no experience of the later emission control carbs so I am trying to find answers and source parts for him to fit. My previous hands-on experience with classics has largely been with MG's from 1932 to 1980, I am now getting too old to do my own spannering so rely on Tony.
  20. The carbs are Stromberg 150CDSE to meet US emission limits and do not have a bottom adjuster. We have the Stromberg tool for top adjustment but is adjustment possible as the manual states that these carbs have all settings sealed ?
  21. Thanks Pete, On left turns, the nearside wheel fouls on the slightest lock and it has got worse in the few miles I have driven it, as if the ride height is settling. That side has the slotted wishbone which is being replaced. Looking at the offside there is the slightest mark on the bulkhead to suggest it has been lightly touched by the tyre at some point. As far as I can tell the springs are plain black.
  22. I have recently bought a GT6 Mk3 (1971). It appears to be fitted with the age appropriate CDSE carbs and the 311749 early Mk3 inlet manifold but the engine has been replaced with a later engine, KE21904HE, and the crankcase breather valve is no longer fitted. With ignition timing, tappets and plug gaps all set correctly, the engine runs with the front three cylinders far too rich, while the back three cylinders are running at the correct mixture. Can the mixture be made more lean on the front carburetter or is there something possibly wrong with the temperature compensator or throttle by-pass, please ? The Insulator and gaskets between carb and manifold have an internal slot , presumably part of the throttle by pass, which the gasket does not appear to fully seal from atmosphere, is this correct ? I have no experience of Strombergs, would fitting an earlier CD set without emissions control be possible and make life easier, or even an SU conversion ? If I have to have the carbs reconditioned, is there a recommended firm to contact ? All suggestions gratefully received.
