  1. One seat runner striped, painted, greased and refurbished.
  2. Woolies do a Hi-Flex Lining Carpet Quote from Wolies: - "Soft, very flexible, unbacked, 4 way stretch roof and sidewall lining carpet. Useful for shaping and mouding around tight corners like wheel arches and window recesses. I've seen this used in a camper van it it conformed to all the in and out shapes and looks very professional and at £19.50 for a 1000mm x 2000mm wide not too expensive.
  3. If you are fitting carpets in the boot, is it necessary to fit sound deadening material or don't the carpets make much difference?
  4. Did a bit more repair work on the seats today, they had snapped off where the bottom part of the frame was welded to the back of the frame on one side, a common problem with these seats. I ordered two lengths of steel tubing, one to slide into the original seat base tube from the back to the front and another which would fit over the inner steel tube and was about the external size of the original base tube, had to modify the underside to reproduce the flat section at the end then welded it up. Just need to clean up the welds and give it a couple of coats of paint. This is going to be a lot stronger than when the seat came out of the factory. Also welded a plate on the bottom horizontal rails as this had come away and had previously been welded but not very successfully.
  5. I ended up grinding the stops down and sliding the bottom runner out. Removed all the moving parts and gave it a really good clean and painted it with some chrome spray paint I had and they have come up really well. Your right about the rollers, there are two each side, mine are nylon with rubber rings around. Next step is to reassemble them and grease up the tracks and all should be fine. Hopefully will be ordering new foam and leather seats covers from Park Lane this week so that will give me something else to do at home.
  6. Thanks Pete, will give that ago before trying anything else.
  7. I'm in the process of refurbishing my seats and was looking to slip the runner part of the seat base out to give it a clean and re-grease it so it slid better. Can some tell me how these come out. Should I flatten or grind down the pressed stops or is there another way to remove them. Thanks
  8. Thanks Clive. Is celly thinners spray paint thinners or will I have to purchase something special?
  9. Hi, I have replaced a number of panels on my 1500 Spitfire and need to apply Tiger seam sealer to the joints, what do you use to dress the surface to make it look neat. Can you use soapy water as you would for silicon bathroom sealer or is there some other product to use?
  10. Thanks gents, its all a lot clearer now.
  11. Will black silicone sealant do the job or is there a specific type of adhesive ?
  12. Found these rubber profiles on www.woolies-trim.co.uk Providing I get the correct sizes for the glass and the body thickness they should do the trick. Last question, to join the ends of the extrusion together, is it just a case of using super glue? Regards
  13. These are the current ones I have, they are item 40 in the photograph. They don’t look to bad in the photo but are a bit squashed where the hardtop has pressed into them. If I can’t find any replacement I may have to use these. On another note, why is the cost of the rear window seal so expensive compared to the front screens seal and is there an alternative supplier to the main providers?
  14. Has anybody found a supplier who has the B post seal pads for the 1500 hardtop in stock , ref. 624747 & 624748 or is there an alternative solution you can use? Did try the main suppliers but it seems they no longer stock them. Many thanks

    Engine Mounts

Can somebody tel me what the torque settings are for the engine mounts on a Triumph Spitfire please?
  16. Think I may have found the part which Moss have Ref. TS50L at £132.90. And found a photo of a similar repair, which suggests the outer inner wheel arch is cut back flush with the inner wing panel and the repair section is then welded to the inner wing. In the last photo, it seems as if the outer wheel arch is part of the inner wing panel and the inner wheel arch is spot welded to the inner wing panel on the other side. So just want confirmation that I cut the outer wheel arch off from the inner wing panel, as the blue line on photo 3 and just spot weld the repair panel onto the inner wing as in the second photo. Many thanks
  17. Hi, I’m thinking about replacing the outer inner rear wheel arch of my Triumph Spitfire 1500 as there is quite a bit of corrosion on the bottom two edges. I have removed the outer rear wing completely and will be replacing this at a later date. The outer part of the inner wheel arch seems to be part of the inner wing, that is the strengthen panel which goes from the rear lights to the ‘B’ post and is a thicker steel section than the other panels. My question is, do I cut the outer wheel arch off flush with the outer part of the inner wheel arch, and then is the new repair panel plug welded to the inner wheel arch or should I be doing something completely different. I’m hoping that some of you may have done this repair work and can give me some guidance on the parts and some guidance on how to go about this. The attached photo is not my car but hopefully will give you an idea of the are I'm talking about.
  18. I need to get a digital caliper, which I will get today and check the outside diameter of the bush. Anybody know what the outside dimension should be for the bush?
  19. I'm about to fit a reconditioned gearbox to the engine, have a new clutch plate and clutch cover, had the flywheel skimmed and ordered a new spigot bush from Moss Brother’s, The part number for the spigot bush on a 1500 is 105143. The spigot bush duly arrived and fitted it onto the main shaft and there is a little play in the fit, I through it should be a relative tight fit. 1. Am I correct in thinking it should be tight? 2. I assume as the gearbox is reconditioned that the main shaft would be the correct size or am I wrong is this thinking? 3. Could the part from Moss Brothers have been incorrectly manufactured? Any thoughts on what could be wrong?
  20. Germany it is then. Many thanks for the two comments. Steve
  21. Who has brought a wide aluminium radiator from either Germany or the Netherlands on eBay and did you have to pay any additional taxes over and above the eBay price when it was delivered? Secondly, is there a distributor in the UK who supplies them at a similar price? Many thanks
  22. Hi, Just purchased a reconditioned exchange ‘J’ type gearbox with an overdrive unit for my 1977 Triumph Spitfire 1500 from a well know supplier. I have a couple of questions which relate to this post from a year ago. 1. When the unit was delivered there was a note telling me to remove a number of parts from the old unit before sending it back, most of which is straight forward. However, I did have a problem in locating a spring clip, Ref. 159503 at first, until I realised it was further up the shaft and not between the cam, Ref 159505 and the retaining spring, Ref 137308 as shown in the picture below and it doesn’t actual look like the one in the catalogue picture. My first question is similar to Spitfiredriver 71, It definitely is part of the 'J' type unit and it fits the shaft of my new overdrive unit , which is exactly the same as my old one and it is listed in Rimmers catalogue. I was going to ask what does it actual do as it just seems to sit in a recess on the shaft but this thread seems to have answered my question? 2. My second question is a bit more straight forward. The gasket, Ref. 37H1901 which goes between the overdrive unit and the gearbox is made of paper. Do I need to put any sealant/grease on either side of the gasket before bolting it together and if so what would you recommend and is there a torque setting for this bolts? Many thanks
  23. Doesn't that trim go inside the roof and not along the rear edge. I don't think there is a trim for the back edge as this would catch any water running off the roof. Without the trim any water would just drop off onto the body and disperse and the inner seal would prevent any ingress of water.
