  1. I see a number of people are using 480Ib springs on there cars. I'm looking to replace mine but was thinking more like 330Ib for a fast road use but a comfortable ride. What are your thoughts? I have a new set of adjustable Spax dampers front and rear and will be using 13" wheels. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  2. I think I will check what the dimensions are before I start taking it apart as well and see how they tie up. Also, looking at the diagram of the chassis I provided, it doesn’t match up to what I have. If you look at the rear part of the chassis you will notice there are two section poking out but on mine they stop just past the rear cross member. The book refers to it as a 1500, were there more than one chassis type for the 1500's?
  3. Hi, I'm about to replace the front cross member and bonnet support bracket on my Triumph Spitfire 1500. I have a 1500 manual which gives the various dimensions which I have attached. The ones I am interested in are dimensions 1 to 3 and 46. My question is, why are there two dimensions in both centimetres and inches from the centre axis to the centre of the components, which one are you supposed to use?
  4. I at the point in my re-build where the chassis will shortly be sand blustered. There are a number of cable securing tangs on the chassis. Should I remove them and fit a better and tidier type of fixing or should I run with the tangs?
  5. According to Rimmer Bros., there bushes are Flo-Flex and Yorkshire-Spam has said he wont touch them. Anybody else have any issues with Flo-Flex?
  6. Thanks Ian, where did you read that?
  7. I’m in the process of stripping down my 1977 Triumph Spitfire 1500 and it looks like I will need to replace all the bushes on the car. I ‘am thinking I will replace them with polyurethane bushes but was surprised at the cost which would be about £360.00 for a complete set from the club shop. Moss have a complete set of Superpro polyurethane bushes for £253.04 and Rimmer Bros have a complete kit for £219.00 I would like to buy from the club shop but with a potential saving of £140.00 if I buy from Rimmer Bros it looks likely that it may well be Rimmer Bros. What are your thoughts from the three providers I have listed, and are there any other options? There are also varying degrees of hardness, fast road, competitions etc. I won’t be doing any competition but what exactly is fast road? I’m looking for a comfortable ride but would like to tune up the engine when I strip it down so should I fit bushes that are suitable for fast road use or just the standard poly bushes? Thanks
  8. Hi, Anybody know if the International MG & Triumph Show will be held at Stoneleigh Park in 2019 and if so when?
  9. Thanks gents for your advice. Does the club shop sell the polythene insulation bag as well and is it necessary?
  10. In reply to rlubikey. When you look at the clearance over each of the rear arches, the near side seems lower, near to the tyre than the offside but that may be how it is sitting on the driveway as there is a slight slop. When I get the body off I will have a good look at the suspension set up, and if need be it will be replaced.
  11. ‘But which meeting. I go to the one at Barham near Ipswich.
  12. So it looks like it will be the poly tunnel then.
  13. Looks like I may need to replace my original gearbox tunnel. I see that you can get either plastic or fibreglass ones. What is the difference, apart from price and what is generally recommended?
  14. Thanks thescrapman, not to far away from me. Not sure of the size of the lowing block just yet, will check this out in time. How do you fit the cover plate or is there a modified one on the market?
  15. Hi, Can someone tell me what is wrong here. Started to strip out the interior of the car today for the rebuild, got to the rear spring centre mount and there was a plastic bag over where there should have been a plate and the bolts to the spring project up about 12-15mm. I assuming the spring may need replacing. Secondly, removed the seat belt harness and not sure how this fitting is secured to the rear arch, the area is heavily under-sealed so not sure if there is a nut on the inner arch. Thanks
  16. Thanks gent's. I now know what size bolts I need and will be able to acquire them from a local supplier. Did not think about the spaces but have found them in the Rimmer Parts catalogue so will need to order those also.
  17. Hi, I have a hardtop which came with my 1977, 1500 Spitfire, which I'm yet to fit. I have the bolts for the windscreen and the rear fixings, and also the tie mounting brackets are fitted on the hardtop but no tie bar or the bolts to fit the tie bar. I will most likely buy new tie bars but could someone tell me the sizes of the two bolts, which secure the tie bar to the mounting bracket please?
  18. Thanks Dougbgt6 and Pete and all the other contributors to this post.
  19. In that case I should be OK with an up-rated 4 cylinder engine. Did undertake a search on here before posting got to about ten pages and gave up. Got loads of post about things which was not relevant to what I was looking for so thought I would ask. Sorry if I've gone over old ground.
  20. Will shortly commence the complete nuts and bolts restoration of my 1977 Triumph Spitfire 1500. What are the general thoughts on reusing the existing wiring harness or should I look to purchase a more modern with a new fuse box? Not looking to add many additional electrical items during the re-build, apart form a radio and maybe upgrading the lights and a few other odds and ends. If a new harness is recommended, where is the best place to get it from, hopefully at a competitive price?
  21. What are the thoughts, if I upgraded my 1977 Spitfire 1500 engine with say one like that which is sold in the club shop with the stage 2 engine with all the bells and whistles on it, is this considered to be a substantial upgrade, which would effect the classification for road tax purpose? And is there anything specific that I shouldn't do to the Spitfire which would affect the classification for road tax purpose?
  22. Put a couple on my birthday list so hopefully may have at least one in the next couple of weeks.
  23. Mine fitted the same as Anglefire's, but I may look to more the fuel line which runs alongside the K&N filters at a latter date.
