  1. Sorry thought I had silly me it's a 1976 spitfire according to rimmers the motor fits all spitfires
  2. I ordered bolts from rimmer bros along with shim starter motor and washers so would assume they are correct length bolts I mean why would they sell smaller makes no sense then again I shouldn't assume
  3. No old stater was binned I got a spacer on ebay so just now need to order a set of longer bolts as ones on rimmers are 1 1/2 inches need at least 2 inches
  4. Yes I was thinking that myself I dont have a spacer didnt realise this till I was actually taking off the starter motor a few days ago but I'm sure when I went to refit without shim in did nothing and if i fitted a spacer it will just pull the it further out
  5. Bought a new stater motor from rimmer bros along with bolts washers and a shim replaced this now after five months car wouldnt start took off starter motor and the teeth on motor are worn away how is this possible if all the parts are correct for the motor?
  6. Well I'm bidding but still 2 days to go
  7. Oops most have been looking for wrong thing lol thanks
  8. Yeah none available at the moment unfortunately
  9. Hi I have a problem with my starter motor on my triumph spitfire 1500 so I have ordered a new barrel and pinion set but was looking online and apparently you need a special clamp to compress the main spring in order to take off the little circlip.so my question is where would you get one or is there another way to compress the spring without the tool.thanks for looking regards Paul
  10. Thanks for the advice Colin I con only assume that as I dont often drive in the dark I have never notice issue with indicator lights on drivers side coming on it was only the other day that a neighbor said he saw me in front of him the night before and noticed the light on all the time so that's it now sorted thanks again for the advice keep safe guys regards Paul
  11. Ok I will jump down they it and get back asap thanks for advice
  12. I know you say red to red black to black but only three red wires not four so is this been a botch job from years ago cause it does look like a wire is either missing or iam wrong
  13. Well I took a picture before I took parts off so I could replace wiring back in correct order although I have had issues before with lights and horn maybe need to take car to some auto electrical expert rather than fudge it up
  14. Seem to have an issue with front wiring specifically the ones connecting front indicators and parking lights .so having swapped out the rusty old lower front valences and reconnecting the lights back up .when I turn lights on the drivers side indicator lights up but doesnt flash also the rear light comes on as well if I use left indicator it works fine but right or drivers side doesnt make a difference as the lights are already on and stay on with headlights .I have checked black wires all seem fine iam correct that the black wire is earth ? I believe it's a problem with earth causing problems putting on hazards the lights do flash but are not as bright as the left side any suggestions that could help me to get lndictator working again its only one side that the problem lies I have added a picture of the wires before took them off to change parts over thanks for looking regards Paul
  15. Update got an original bolt and nut from a fellow triumph member so clamp is now nice and tight thanks for all the advice
  16. So it's not the clamp but the nut did notice mine doesn't have a square nut onone end and unless you use a spanner hold one end will just spin
  17. Just checked I fitted a power spark 45D do what type of clamp does that require any ideas
  18. Where can you buy new clamps?
  19. Now I hadn't thought of that I changed over the distributor for an electronic ignition system and just got the whole unit so maybe that's the issue although I changed it over last july and hadn't notice any problems until the other day car started to run a bit sluggish and was making a poping noise so checked timming and noticed it was out a tiny bit and that's when I noticed clamp wasn't tightening up correctly
  20. Hi quick question the clamp on my distributor doesn't tighten up might be a problem with the nut or bolt rimmer bros dont have any in stock so does anyone know the correct size as hopefully i just need a new bolt and nut to sort out the problem thanks for looking regards Paul
  21. Update decided this morning to swap cables about and it worked thanks for the advice Doug can only think that when had car in mates garage sorted starter motor that the wires maybe became disconnected and he has push them back in or had his son helping him anyway its now sorted so even though it was cold and dull i took the car to work why not 😊
  22. Justto update had a look at wiring on lights cleaned all bullet connectors and joiner blocks so looking at the picture is this set up correct ? I removed the blue red wire from right side to the left then tried lights the passenger side came on the drivers side didn't then on full beam it did come if i swap the wire back its the opposite drivers side on any ideas ? Its something simple bit like me 😂
