  1. Gav, Personally I think that’s an outstanding example of thinking outside of the box! Definitely a candidate for innovation of the year award.
  2. Ian, Can you post some images of the chassis, maybe, say, four and someone on here will be able to tell you if it’s complete. Also, images of any area that you think maybe “dodgy” and, again, there’ll be someone who know what’s what. Good luck with the rebuild!

    Looks like we’ve got our very own “me too” movement here! Had the same with my BMW 5-Series, “Next time you’re in front pads, and disks probably, will need doing”. “Just letting you know so it doesn’t come as a shock”. Almost two years later all is still well at the front.
  4. Many years ago my older brother completed his apprenticeship as a “motor mechanic” and went off to do his National Service. His apprenticeship had included heavy vehicles and recovery work. When his Sargent leant this he was instructed to, “Teach this bunch to drive, you have two weeks”. Twelve days later it was done.

  6. Tom, As an ordinary member I just wanted to say thanks for the work done, and yet to be done. I’ve a lot of IT experience and what your taking on is, as I’m sure you’re only too well aware, no small undertaking. I sometimes feel members have expectations that are way off beam with the reality of what a club such as ours can and should deliver as part of the member experience. Yes, we pay fees and have, justifiably, a right to have reasonable services and service from the Club. Personally I believe the current balance of subscriptions v services is pretty good. Others, I’m absolutely certain, will, quite rightly, have other points of view which makes for a great Forum/Club. Paul

  8. Thanks guys. It is in the bell housing and definitely not draining oil from the gearbox! I can carefully insert a screwdriver in for just over 2”. Before I seal it (not sure how yet) I intend to insert a camera and see what I can see 🧐. Any ideas on how to safely seal it will be most welcome.
  9. Hi, The gearbox on my TR6 has a hole drilled into the base of the casing. Obviously(?) a post manufacturing mod, but why? It appears to be two holes drilled overlapping. Can someone please advise me? Thanks, Paul

  11. Thanks everyone. All done, nice and clean now with new points, rotor arm and dizzy cap and, with points set, runs like a dream.
  12. Jeff, Thanks, that was it but with a spring clip opposite the bayonet that needed helping over the edge of the lower base plate. Much appreciated.
  13. Hi Pete, Is there a technique to be used to remove the base plate? I’ve disconnected everything but something is retaining the plate. As I try and lift it it feels as though there is a “spring” holding it. As ever, any advice greatly appreciated.

  15. Out in the glorious weather earlier when slowly the car started to become unresponsive. Nursed it home and after a few minutes diagnosing found the rotor had, basically, fallen apart. Read many items about poorly manufactured arms so I guess this is another. Having said that it may have been on the car for eleven or so years. Before I replace it I’d appreciate any advice on how best to clean up the resultant mess to the dizzy proper. Thanks in advance, Paul
  16. Paul, Yes, there’s no doubt about it, you should get out more. In fact we should all get out more! Never seen one like that before. I’m in North Northumberland at the moment where there are still a few RAC provided signs remaining and, just outside the village of Beadnell, a grand original AA box. Paul

  20. I recently did a cosmetic upgrade to the carpets in my TR6 really simple job but, because of lockdown, required a little thinking outside of the box. Then I saw request for articles but thought no one will be interested but contacted the requestor who said, “Just about anything anyone does is of interest to somebody”.

All, But to address the elephant in the room……… until just a few weeks ago all (well pretty much all) of the posts, almost without exception, were “car” related and certainly I gleaned much useful information and have increased my knowledge levels enormously and I enjoyed some of the jokes and even contributed occasionally. Then, “BANG!”, it starts to change and we all know why. Personally, I’ll deal with it as there’s enough functionality in the software to filter out what/who I don’t want to engage with and also long enough in the tooth to manage my own emotions. However, all that said, as a wise man once muttered, “It only takes one…….” On the question of rankings, since I was elevated to Expert - where on earth did that come from? - I’ve had a permanent smile on my face but please don’t anyone ask me anything! The shear quality of the majority of responses soon makes it clear who knows what on here, and, thank you, thank you, thank you to those of whatever rank who have helped, and hopefully will continue to help me enjoy my cars and through them life in general.   22. Hi, Bought my 1972 TR6 in September 2019 and have loved every minute I’ve spent driving and working on it since. As the guys have said, the knowledge on this forum and in the Club is phenomenal. Enjoy your Six!
