    LIDL/ALDI TOOLS

+1 from me, they are excellent.
  2. One of the best discussions on the Forum for ages. However, Pete, are you back on-line OK now? Paul ps No offence, insult, call to storm TSSC HQ or cull the CoM intended or implied by this communication.
  3. For those who may be interested, local BMW specialist (not main dealer) will sort problem and will drain, clean filter and refill reservoir for £50 which I’m happy with as I don’t have to endure cold hands, sore knuckles, cut fingers and a search for replacements for the three little plastic pin clips that keep part of the trim on.
  4. Arhhh! Are you able to access the site but then unable to post/reply? If so, maybe an administrator may need to look at your account.
  5. Hi, Not the answer I’m afraid, but I can access ok on an “old” IPad running 10.3.3. Can you access from Safari by inputting a general Triumph query that may push you through to the TSSC site?
  6. Pete, Thanks. I had got that far, it’s more the next bit around how/what to remove to drain and flush. I’m happy to take the task on but not if it something that takes hours. Not that I’m too mean to pay someone more I don’t want to out in the cold for ages 🥶😤🤬.
  7. Pete, Just for clarity, is it definitely an IPad (and so running IOS) and not some other type of tablet device? Paul
  8. Hi, Can any of you knowledgeable folk please advise me on how to best access and drain the WW reservoir on my BMW? Seems, from other forums, the problem is not uncommon. I’m after understanding just how practical, hard/easy it is to tackle without needing special tools etc. I need to remove the filter, clean and replace it. Thank goodness Triumph didn’t decide to locate the reservoir on their cars in such inaccessible places. Thanks in advance. Paul
  9. Thanks guys. I guess they’re to give some protection to the joint but, as said, who knows. Just aware that the Triumph designers usually did things for a purpose. Any views on on smaller grease gun nozzles, are there such things?
  10. The UJ assemblies on the inner final drive have grease nipple fittings. However, getting to them is a challenge. The conical covers make inserting the nozzle of a grease gun a challenge. To overcome this I cut a flap in the covers making access easy and stitched it up when finished using thin cable ties. Cover effectiveness is maintained and future servicing made easier. But, on the near side, I couldn’t attach the gun because the nozzle was too big to insert onto the nipple, being baulked by the UJs. Looking at it the nipple doesn’t appear to protrude far enough but does look as though it has been used previously, but how? Are there smaller profile nozzles or am I missing something? As ever, all help and guidance appreciated.
  11. As Colin recommends, let’s stick to the rubber tube and glass jar methodology. Apparently never fails at normal atmospheric pressure.
  12. Thanks both. Colin, think I’ll save my money and continue to use the “wife” method 😊. Paul
  13. Hi, Has anyone experience of this product that they will share please? Also, any recommendations for similar systems. Thanks.
  14. Presumably you’ll be using motorways so ensure the car has hazard flashers that work and if not invest in a battery operated unit, preferably magnetic, that you plonk on the roof in case of breakdown. Ensure the wipers work. Take a large umbrella and a warm waterproof just in case you have to stand in the rain for a while. Hopefully none of these will be needed so “Good Luck” and enjoy! Let’s know how it goes.
  15. Thought I’d share my experience of replacing my near side gaiter - a job I’d never done before. Before tackling it I took time to read up on how to do it, looked at a few YouTube videos and sought the guidance of the Forum. All referenced the “struggle” to pass the small aperture leading edge “tube” over the inner/ outer steering arm knuckle joint. One YouTube video even had a caption along the lines of, “and now for the struggle” when it came to that part of the video showing how to do it on a TR5. After some thought my solution was to invert the “tube” (so I pushed it into the gaiter body), smear grease on the knuckle and then push the gaiter over it while twisting it clockwise. Once over I used a 100+ year old button hook from my - miscellaneous/might come in useful one day - tool collection (I guess any suitable hooky thing will do) and carefully inserted it into the gaiter, gently extracted the “tube” and slid it home. In all it took 90 seconds - and I didn’t swear once! However, the hose clips supplied as part of the renewal kit were absolute trash and just twisted out of shape as I tightened them.
  16. Thanks one and all. I’ll let you know how I get on.
  17. Thanks both. Clive, what’s the “test” to establish if the rack is worn? Thanks.
  18. Hi, I found yesterday that the gaiters on my steering rack are shot and will need to replaced. This is a one job I’ve never done and before I decide how best to proceed (e.g. should I do it myself or take it to a professional etc.) I thought I’d ask the mighty collective of all things Triumph for any advice and guidance they may be prepared to offer. One simple kick-off question I have is, should racks be repaired these days of just replaced with new? As ever, thanks in advance. Paul
  19. What a nightmare scenario. Condolences to Mathew’s family and let’s hope a speedy recovery to his wife. And, let’s all be careful out there.
  20. My TR6 was first registered in 1972 on the island of Jersey. Well, presumably it was as it was manufactured on 17/5/72 and shipped to St. Helier Garages Ltd. direct from the factory. It was subsequently registered on the U.K. mainland on 1/4/81 (and then on the IoM on 13/9/93 and back to the mainland, re-registered with age appropriate plate on 28/8/2008). I’m interested in establishing it’s history while on Jersey and to that end I’ve contacted the Jersey Driving and Standards Agency who were really responsive but unfortunately can’t help as 1972 predates their computerised records. They advised me to contact the Jersey Archive who have come back saying without the J registration number they can’t help. I only have the engine, body numbers and colour etc. from the factory records. Has anyone any suggestions on how I might continue the search? Many Thanks.
  21. Peter, Wow! The power and reach of the Forum! Thanks for replying. To be honest I’d forgotten all about the post and had to track back to recall why I’d made the initial post. At the time I was looking for someone to undertake restoration work on my GT6. While doing some due diligence on an outfit very near to me, Southside Custom and Classic, your car was on their website, and still is. Having asked around people I know locally who are part of the classic car scene, I couldn’t find anyone who had any first hand knowledge of them and so I made the post on the forum in the hope of finding the owner and getting background on the work they’d done. As it turned out, having agreed a scope of work and the price, they just dropped me and never communicated with me again or responded to my calls. I’m sure they picked up more lucrative/simpler work and I still don’t know anyone who has used them. Anyway, your 6 looks great and you’re a braver man then me to undertake a 500+ mile first journey. Enjoy it! Thanks, Paul
  22. If inexpensive plastic pipe is ethanol proof, why is there such a debate about R9/R14 Specification hose as being the “must have” for safe use? Paul
  23. Hi, I bought a Nextbase 422, it was about £100 including a micro card. I’ve installed it using the 12v option deliberately rather than hard wiring it in. It’s easy to use, straight forward to set up and image quality is selectable. Installed it’s not particularly noticeable and positioned behind the rear view mirror is not a distraction. I’m not familiar with the Vitesse so can’t comment on how easy it is to “hide” the cable but it’s not very thick so I guess it can’t to be very difficult. Mine’s on my BMW but I fully intend to be able to swap it between that and my TR. I bought it because I was hit by an articulated low loader who drove off and denied ever having been in the area. By chance someone nearby with their cam on caught it all. Most straightforward claim I’ve ever had.
