  1. Agree totally, Club Triumph don't have an option not to receive a printed copy of their mag but just also post a soft copy on line on their website in an area only accessible to members. This allows all to access as soon as it's published, very important for entries to oversubscribed events like the RBRR and 10CR and essential for foreign members. Useful as it contains archived old magazines as well. Must be minimal cost apart from the web hosting storage space which nowadays is peanuts, I'm sure the actual content is produced soft copy anyway to send to the printers.
  2. Hi All, In my capacity as the GT6 register secretary for the TSSC I’ve been contacted by the editor of Classic and Sportscar Magazine who are looking for a Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 GT6 for a photoshoot for a forthcoming GT6 article. The shoot is likely to take place on the 4th, 6th or 9th November in the Wiltshire/West Berkshire area. (Unfortunately it will be on a weekday otherwise I may have put my car forward for the MK3!) The magazine will cover owners' fuel costs, provide a CD of images from the day, and send a copy of the magazine when it is printed. If you have a fine example of a GT6 and want to put your car forward for this photoshoot please PM me and I’ll forward on the email for you to make contact. Cheers, Andy
  3. I know it's not permissible to put adverts on here, this is more a please save a Dolomite post! One of the Dolly guys who comes to our local meets (it's a joint Dolly Club, CT and TSSC meet) has decided to give up on a project. It's a Dolly 1850 that has been partially restored and partially converted to a sprint. All bits are there but it does need work. PM me if you are interested and want further details.
  4. Just checked and the MOT emissions test is in effect for earlier vehicles than I thought, it's for Vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1975. The standards get progressively tighter for later vehicles. For GT6s of course they are all exempt and only have to pass a visual smoke test...
  5. Depends on the year Doug, I think it's post 1977 cars that have to pass a test. My 79 Dolomite is certainly subject to emissions testing, as are Spit 1500s, TR7s, and Late Saloon's. Right pain TBH unless you find a sympathetic MOT place who will bend the rules, after all it's not a safety issue which is what the MOT test should be about, just some numpties in Brussels setting illogical irrelevant targets. It causes a lot more pollution to build a new car than an old dirty classic causes. So the greenest option and less impact on the planet is to stop building new cars and recycle old classics. However the motor industry and therefore the politicians wouldn't want that!
  6. It's occurred to me that what Volkswagon have done in cheating the American emissions test with software that detunes the car to get through the test and then retunes afterwards to get it to run properly is an automated version of what late 70s Triumph owners have had to do for years. I'm sure many of us have to weaken the mixture on our cars to get it through the MOT emissions test and then retune it to a proper richer setting to get it to run properly after the MOT has been granted, or is it just me!
  7. I quite often get along to this, it's only about 3 1/2 miles away from me, look out for a nappy cack yellow GT6 or Brown Dolomite at future meets.
  8. Hi, An update, Bill is now being cremated in the UK and will have his ashes returned to the US. The funeral is at 9:30 next Tuesday at Harlow Crematorium. Ashley Mills has put a reply to the post regarding Bill on the Club Triumph Forum with details and his phone number. http://www.club.triumph.org.uk/cgi-bin/forum10/Blah.pl?m-1442217521/s-30/ It would be great to have some of Bill's Triumph friends there but if you are going please contact Ashley (Pistonbroke) on the Club Triumph forum via the number he has published as he needs to let the crematorium know. Regards, Andy
  9. I'm sad to have to advise that a great Triumph Friend Bill Goodwin passed away this week. Many of our members will have known Bill Goodwin from the US. Bill was a real Triumph enthusiast and even kept a Triumph (a Dolomite known as Dollyroo) in the UK just to take part in club events with both the TSSC and Club Triumph. He also owned a couple of Heralds that he had exported home to the US. Bill regularly visited the UK and came along to TSSC events such as Stafford, Duxford and the Isle of Wight Camping weekend. He also took part in many Club Triumph Round Britain and 10 Countries runs. Bill was a great character and could talk for hours about Triumph's usually over a few beers which was another of his passions. he always took the time to talk to people and make friends at club events and built up some close friendships within the Triumph fraternity with several visiting him at his home in Maryland. Bill was staying in the UK along with his wife Carol when he passed in the early hours of Monday, they were staying with another of our Triumph friends Peter Wenzle at the time. Many of us are going to really miss our old American friend and my thoughts are with Carol at this difficult time.
  10. Yes, It was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Nice location., nice food, nice company and a nice drive there and back.
  11. Try using a good quality stud extractor of a suitable size.
  12. Here's some pictures taken at the Ace Cafe Triumph Day earlier today in a facebok album. These should be visible using the link below even if you dont have a facebook account https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10205071259954744.1073741895.1040657908&type=1&l=bfcc12a75d
  13. Here's a Girling installed on a MK3 And here is a Lockheed. Both are good Servos. The reason I chnaged to Lockheed when my Girling Powerstop needed replacing was that it was more expensive to have the Girling Rebuilt than to buy a new Lockheed and also there was a 6 week leadtime. At the time the only place I could find that did rebuilds or supplied seal kits was Norton Classic Servos, a one man band hence the long leadtime. They are no longer trading though and I belive the seal kits are now available elsewhere. One advantage of the Lockheed is that it has a slightly higher boost ratio than the Girling but it is a faff to fit and if a Girling rebuild was available off the shelf at a reasonable cost I probably wouldn't have swapped.
  14. The Club Shop used to sell alloys but they aren't in the current catalogue so I assume they have been dropped from the range of products now. Midland Wheels usually do some pretty good deals on Alloys including packages that include tyres as well as nuts, centres etc. As well as the wheel size the PCD is also important, For a GT6 the PCD is 95.25mm. Midland Wheels:- 01926 817444.
  15. The factory workshop manual shows the capacities clearly for all Models of GT6. They are all the same at 11 pints (=6.2 litres in "new money") To be honest wehn draining and re-filling you unilkely to get all the entire old coolant out and the the 11 pints would be from empty.
  16. David Manners parts 4 list the GMC219 as in stock, not cheap at £100 but in stock.
  17. Great example, one of the best around I'd say.
  18. Slight error in one of Doug's mails. The official optional servo available for the earlier models was also a Girling Powerstop. The Lockheed servovos are a later aftermarket upgrade as oppossed to an offical Triumph Optional extra. The factory GT6 manual shows deatils of how to fit the optional extra Girling powerstop kit to the earlier cars.
  19. Here's one on a 1500HL Dolomite
  20. Plenty of Smiths Voltmeters around secondhand that are an exact match for the Spitfire 1500 guages as the Dolomites, Stags and Saloons of that age had then fitted. You should be able to get one for £5-10 at a Triumph Autojumble.
  21. I have the similar conversion from Moss on may GT6 MK3 and opted for Koni dampers, although by far the most expensive they are great dampers and everyone I know who uses them swear by them, mainly as they seem to vastly outlast the others from Gaz, Spax, Avo etc.Like anything, you get what you pay for in terms of quality and dampers are no exception. I also have the issue of no bump stops fitted having removed one of the redundnat wheelarch shock mounts that had corroded. The otehr one is just about to come off too, no point in keeping them if you use the shock conbversion as it's just another rust trap. However using Koni rear shocks supplied by MOSS with the kit I have no bottoming out isssues even during pretty spirited driving, only on very bumpy (offroad) situations which I can live with as the shocks have uinternal bumpstops anyway.
  22. Andrew Turner Carburettors does the service kits for Stombergs and SUs and can supply rebuilt reconditioned versions of both types. see http://www.su-carbs.co.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/turner?opendocument&part=2
  23. I reckon it's just a club shop marketing ploy as Garth has an overstock of thousands of tax disc holders that he needs to sell! Seriously though, nice idea ;-)
  24. Have chnaged the GT6 steering rack a couple of times which is pretty much the same arrangement as a Vitesse. I jacked the engine up a little after releasing the engine mounts and had no problems pulling it out from the drivers side.
