  1. Andrew Turner Carburettors does the service kits for Stombergs and SUs and can supply rebuilt reconditioned versions of both types. see http://www.su-carbs.co.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/turner?opendocument&part=2
  2. I reckon it's just a club shop marketing ploy as Garth has an overstock of thousands of tax disc holders that he needs to sell! Seriously though, nice idea ;-)
  3. Have chnaged the GT6 steering rack a couple of times which is pretty much the same arrangement as a Vitesse. I jacked the engine up a little after releasing the engine mounts and had no problems pulling it out from the drivers side.
  4. Enginuity are a Triumph specialists in Acton West London. http://www.enginuity.co.uk/
  5. I know Mike, it's crazy. Insurers really ought to be encouraging the fitment of winter tyres as it reduces their risk...
  6. One of the other Major Triumph Clubs, Club Triumph, publish the club magazine on line in pdf format as well as sending out posted copies. The on line magazines are accesible to members only. This is particularly useful if the magazine gets delayed in the post and especially for overseas members as it means everyone can access the magazine on the publish date. For some club events that have limited entry numbers and tend to get booked up within a couple of days of being announced (like the Round Britain Run and Ten Countries run) it does at least allow people to get access and download a copy of the magazine with entry forms. There is no option to opt out of the printed magazine, the on libne copy is to supplement the hard copy. So I'd certainly think it would be worth having an online version to suplement to hard copy. I'm sure a soft copy is produced to send to the printers so it wouldn't be difficult tio publish on line....
  7. Up to 20% increase in premium with some insurers!!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11969958
  8. Winter Tyres are great. But a word of warning, apprently some insurers now count them as a modification and may increase your premium. Really daft as they decrease the chnaces of having an accident so ought to in theory reduce the premium but that's the crazy world of insurance!
  9. If you decide to go for Aldon you can save some money. Aldon Ignitor kits are rebadged Pertronix Ignitor ignition kits. Pertronix are the manufacturer based in the USA and I ordered mine from a company called vintage performance in the US, it was about 2/3 of the price of the rebadged Aldon version from the UK (price about the same in dollars for Pertronix as pounds fro Aldon!. Even more amazing was that it was sent out from a warehouse they had in Camberley Surrey UK! I suspect thats where they stock them to sell them on to Aldon for them to re-branding and resale for the UK after they've added on their mark up!
  10. I got a replica one for my Dolomite on ebay. Had a disc that would have matched the original one when the car was first on the road in 1989. Expiry date of April 1980 and a post office stamp from Upminstaer Essex where the garage was that sold the car when new. Plenty of ebay sellers doing these. The one I chose supplied 8 copies 4 matt and 4 gloss. Only downside was that the perforations were printed but to be hosnest that doesn't notice when it's in the holder. When I renew the GT6 tax at the end of next month I'll probably do the same but I'm having to take an educated guess as to where the vehicle was sold when new as unlike the Dolly I don't have the original bill of sale....
  11. Clive, I reckon it would have been the output shaft from the Dolly box and the adaptor plate that would have been used to build the J type GT6 upgrades offered by the likes of Canley Classics (or many years ago Kingston Sportscars!). I think a Dolly 1850 box would have diffferent rations but would still fit and be useful. GT6s and Vitesses alledgedly had "close ratio" boxes.
  12. Just to be clear, you can't just bolt an overdrive on to the back of your existing gearbox.... The gearbox has a different output shaft, and would also need the adaptor casting. Your best bet is to find a gearbox and overdrive assembly complete to be honest. There are a few uprated GT6 gearboxes about with J type overdrives fitted, they were not a standard factory offering but were sold by suppliers such as canley Classics as an upgrade. I don't think there is anyone selling these now but occaisionally 2nd hand ones come up for sale. Canley Classics also used to sell overdrive conversion kits with all the parts needed, However they only seem to do these for Spitfires and Heralds now. However a look at their web page picture of the kit gives a good indiactioon of all the parts required. Gearbox and od, mounting plate, od gearbox mount, od wiring loom, propshaft gear knob with switch, od inhibitor switch etc. Quie a few parts to be honest. http://www.canleyclassics.com/overdrive-conversion-kit/
  13. Presume you are the one who posted the similar question on facebook so you have an answer! But for anyone else, Richard Briscoe (RB Mobile Classics) has then in stock as he has had spacers made up in all the sizes for Rotoflex hubs. Richard's contact details:- rbmobileclassics@gmail.com 07766 354449
  14. The ones I fitted were rear belts in the dolly, these had webbing on the sockets. Looks like the front Securons do have long dangly stalks though. Hererare my Rear Belts in the Dolly
  15. KCP alos have them from their shop as well as ebay, but the ebay price is better. Anyway, here is a ink to the shop page for the 500/30 as Garth may be more inclined to price match a proper shop price shop than an ebay shop price.... http://shop.kcpcarandcommercial.co.uk/epages/100080302.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/100080302/Products/%22SEC500/30%22
  16. Cheers Clive, yep I have fingers like a bunch of bananas :-)
  17. By far the cheapest place I've found for new Securon Intertia reel seatbelts is KPC at Bury St Edmunds, I purchased a set of seatbelts for a Dolomite from them last year and was impressed with the price and speed of delivery. They have an ebay shop under username kpconline and I'm not surpised that I found them excellent as they have 100% feedback rating with over 11,000 sales which is pretty impressive! The securon website shows applications for Triumph see:- http://www.securon.co.uk/applications/app_list/ttoz/seat_belts_triumph.htm The seatbelt listed for Vitesse Fron is Securon Part number 500/30. KPC on line have these for £26.95 each on ebay at the moment with free click and collect from Argos shops. Maybe Garth would do a price match with this from the club shop as they also sell Securon but at £41 each for the 500/30 for Vitesse, if not I'd suggest buying from KPC on ebay I would certainly recommend them and use them again if I am after any more seatbelts.
  18. See my Blog entries on fitting a Halogen conversion with relays and a separate fusebox on my Dolomite. A bit more complicated than a herald as it has a 4 headlamp set up like a Vitesse but may be of some help. I also fitted a Halogen conversion to my GT6 a while back but without relays. I may change to a relay setting at some point though. 1st entry shows a diagram and list of parts http://cook1e.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/time-to-upgrade.html The end of this second entry shows the actual installation (first part is a local car breakfast meet so ignore this!) http://cook1e.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/bank-holiday-weekend-sunshine-and-rain.html
  19. Aiden, try a post on the Triumph Dolomite forum, there will be plenty of Sprint owners on their who may have details of an alternative supplier. You don't need to be a Dolomite Club member to open an account and post on their forum.
  20. John your list of Diffs and reference to the ones fitted to GT6 are not quite correct. GT6s had either 3.89:1 or 3.27:1 diffs fitted. 3.89:1 fitted to most overdrive cars 3.27 fitted to non overdrive cars, plus overdrive cars in certain markets (eg Switzerland) and some of the Mk2s. The 3.63:1 diff was fitted to Spitfire 1500 whether overdrive or non-overdrive. The 3.63 is in my opinion a good upgrade to an overdrive GT6 as it's slightly higher without losing much acceleration on a standard engine. late spitfire diffs are also the strongest. The 3.27 diff is the weakest variant, although it's a good diff for uprated engines or 2.5 litre conversions it is the easiest to break with additional power so is not without some risks.
  21. Normal state of afairs at my MOT testing station is that the tester gives an advisory about play but realistically it's well within tolerance. The only way to prevent the advisories seems to be to adjust it to no play, take for an MOT then slacken off when at home. Me, I just put up with the advisory each year!
  22. The engine number list that Kipping used to have is now on Canley Classics website and it's got a bit more infor on it:- http://www.canleyclassics.com/?xhtml=xhtml/infodatabase/engine.html&xsl=infodatabase.xsl
  23. I note that the forum has a facility to create a bog. I'm sure that many members like myself already have a blog in existence through an external blog service (eg google blogger). Other leading Car club forums (eg Club triumph) have a facility to publish an external blog on the forum. Can this be introduced on the TSSC forum please? as I would not duplicate the effort to create a separate Triumph blog when I already have one in place but want to give the membership the benefit of seeing my blog from within the forum in the same way that other leading car club s allow.
  24. I recently replaced the bushes on my Koni rear shocks on a GT6 and just used the standard 2 part bushes. I also changed the top bolts to the shouldered ones used on the standard non roto cars and fitted them without any metal sleeves, works fine for me.... There is a post about it here in my blog :- http://cook1e.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/you-should-always-check-simple-stuff.html
