  1. If it's a thermostatically controlled oil cooler then the thermostat will be closed and it won't drain overnight. If it's not thermostaticallay controlled then consider chnaging it to add a thermostat as without one it will tend to stop the oil reaching operating temerature which is hust as bad as it getting too hot.

"To all my fellow friends, family n facebookers. Steve."
  4. Commission numbers on the MK3 ran up to KE24218, last one rolled off the production line in December 73. There used to be one in Essex back in the 90s that was first registered in 1975 on an N plate. It had obvuosly taken the garage a long time to sell that one out of the showroom! If you want to know when yours was produced you can get a heritage certificate from Gaydon which will confirm this, particularly useful for proving that your car is tax exempt as it's the manufacture date not the registration date that detrmines this and ALL GT6s are tex exempt now. See:- http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/store/heritage-certificates-and-archive-services/heritage-certificates.html Dont take any notice of the websites that show how many are left, the data is very eroneious as it depends on how the operative at the DVLA enetered the data whcih was a bit inconsistent...
  5. Simon, Not sure what type of Wooden wheel you have, but if it's Mountney or Motolita (the most popular makes) The club shop sell the boss kits so give Garth a call and he'll be able to advise.
  6. Sounds Great Value Pete. I did the underwing tour of the flying Vulcan XH558 at Farnborough Airshow a couple of years back which lasted about 1/2 hour max, didn't include actually going inside the aircraft and cost a fiver so £10 for the complete tour including the cockpit and taking four hours is a real bargain :-)
  7. All Spitfires and GT6 use the same kit, an example being James Paddock part number JPR712 £12.95 plus VAT.... Other traders will also do them...

    Sad news....

Therer was a post on another Triumph forum regarding a crash in Devon where surfboards came off a roof rack and hit a Spitfire Passenger causing the driver to swerve and hit an oncoming car. Sounds like the Spitfire Driver was unfortunatly very seriously injured. :-( Whether or not it is one of our members I do hope he makes the best recovery he can... News story from the local press http://www.middevongazette.co.uk/Surfboard-hits-passenger-flys-car-roof-resulting/story-22816005-detail/story.html
  9. I think Canley's were about £145 but there would be postage on top of that, I wouldn't be surprised if they get theirs from Dave Mac :-) The place near Heathrow was almost 200 quid.... I'm on Holiday as well, marvellous using technology to be able to post on the forum from the hotel poolside bar in the canary Islands with a Mojito in hand! I think the newbie piece will change when you reach a certain numbers of threads posted. I've been in the club since 1985 so if that's a newbie god knows what an oldbie is!
  10. Many years ago I replaced the UJs on a propshaft and had it balanced professionally. I also rebuilt the gearbox, changed the clutch. Afterwards I had a vibration but thought as I'd had the prop balanced it couldn't possibly be that. Anyway I put up with it for a couple of years and then saw a 2nd hand prop in the Stafford autojumble for a tenner. I thought I'd give it a try and it cured the vibration! After a couple of years it was a bit late to take the prop back top the balancers and complain! Anyway, 15 years later that 2nd hand prop sometimes has a vibration as the sliding joint is worn so I will get around to replacing it. Can you let me know how much the new prop was from Dave Mac please. Got quoted a lot of money from a propshaft supplier near Heathrow (just under 200 quid) so I'm interested in getting one for a good price.
  11. I had the standard Mocol oil cooler kit from Triumphtune designed to mount in front of the radiator but fitted it at the side vertically instead. Just had to get a longer aeroquip hose made up for the top hose fitting.
  12. If it's a repeated clunking it could be a chipped reverse idler cog in the gearbox. Had that happen on a Sitfire 1500 myself many years ago. I reversed hard in an autogymkahna, there was a loud bang and then every time I put it in reverse there was a clock clonk clonk on each revolution of the gear shaft as I'd chipped a tooth off of the reverse idler. It also damaged the layshaft cluster. The 2 parts cost as much as a recon gearbox so an expensive problem! Note I say it could be that, it could also be a multitude of other issues. Start with a check of all the UJs...
  13. Agreed value is a bit dodgy if it's not backed up by the club. If you have a valuation throuh the club it will be backed up. If you go on your own and the car is written off or stolen and the assessor thinks it wasn't worth the agreed value you still may not get payed out in full despite the value being "agreed"... Get a valuation through the club and go with one of the several policies on the panel for piece of mind...
  14. Yep, Petyer James, great service and great price. I have my GT6 and Dolly on the same policy, agree value of £11K between them, unlimited mileage, Europe wide breakdown cover for just under £150...
  15. Good idea Darren, however for us members with a serial Triumph disorder, this should not be titled show us your car, it should be show us your carS. Anyway, fortunately I'm not too severely afflicted by Triumphitis and I only currently have two of the buggers :-) My GT6 Mk3, owned for 26 years, driven extensively, it's never gonna be concours but it is a tidy and fairly well sorted example Then there is my other Triumph, "The Flying Log" a Dolly 1500HL purchased last year so I can still attend Triumph events with the kids as a single parent as they wont both fit into the GT6. The "Log" will also be my Club Triumph Round Britain Run car this year. Its a solid reliable car and has only covered 51,000 documented miles from new but could do with a bit of attention to a rear wing that was poorly repaired and the paintwork.
  16. Agreed, unless the username is offensive it should be a personal choice. In these days of identity crime a lot of people like to remain anonymous on the web to those who don't actually know them, especially on web forums and social media like facebook and twitter etc.

    Oil leak

If it stops leaking then you need to get worried as it means the oil has run out :-)
