  1. Yep, item 35 in the WSM I reckon. I'll have a look at it. Thanks Dave ====
  2. Good question. Can't remember, I'll have a look in the book. Cheers Dave ====
  3. Hi there. My 13/60 has developed a weird problem with 1st gear. I have to move the lever what seems like miles over to the left to get 1st gear, but then 2nd seems normal. I changed the bushes etc to try and fix it but it still happens. Anything else I should be looking at? Cheers Dave ====
  4. Well, as it happens I have a steel beam with a chain host. So, can I get the engine and gearbox out from the car without removing the bonnet? Dave ===
  5. I've got an alignment tool from when I did a Herald 13/60 a few years ago. Not sure if it is suitable for a Gt6 though. I'll dig it out and see what it says. Its going to be a little while this job, currently renovating a house for the in-laws, and then a Herald to get ready for a wedding. looks like a couple of months before the GT6 gets another look-at. It gives me time to gather info and do some thinking/planning/purchasing. Any tips on the "best" clutch to buy? Dave ===
  6. Seems that from the inside would be best then. Definitely looking at heat prevention and thanks for the tip about the slave cylinder. Got new carpets to fit so I reckon I'll take the whole inside out and go from there. Thanks Dave ===
  7. Hi I've suspected a worn clutch for a while. lots of revving and then biting, and only engaging right at the top of the pedal travel. Today I moved it from standstill in 4th, which I'm told is a sure sign of a worn clutch. Only way is out through the cabin, right? Thanks Dave ====
  8. I forgot to say, while doing the usual internet searching, I came across a pub "The Radius Arms", down in Surrey or Sussex or Hampshire. Got to be worth a visit. Dave ====
  9. Well, I changed the radius arm bushes for some new poly things. One of the large bushes was sliding left to right along its metal inner. When I took it off the inner metal tube just fell out. The other one was still intact. Anyway, after a long struggle getting the - what looked like original - metalastic large bushes out (with chisel, hammer, sockets etc), and just pushing the small bushes out with sockets in a vice, the new ones are in, the radius arms are painted, and all put back together. A test run of about 5 miles tonight showed a distinct improvement. Of course now I can hear all sorts of other rattles and bangs. And the clutch needs changing. At least the radius bushes were correctly identified as one problem. Thanks for everybody's suggestions. A job well done! Cheers Dave
  10. Its the body end. Not the wheel end. Dave ====
  11. Hi. A had a root around underneath - looks like the bush on the offside body-fixing radius arm has passed its best - I can lever it left to right along the bolt and back again. This does not seem normal, does it? Also I did have a rattling tailgate - I fitted a new seal recently - needs testing properly. Cheers Dave ====
  12. Thanks all. Car up over the next few days, and will have a good poke around. Cheers Dave ====
  13. Hi there I've noticed quite a lot of noise coming from the back end when driving over bumps and even small undulations. I've had everything out of the boot in case it was that, but no, still happened. So now I'm thinking dampers or spring or maybe radius arms. Are there any basic checks I can do to narrow down the search? Cheers Dave ====
  14. hi I got one from Bill and it fits a treat. Need to adjust the lock a bit so it doesn't bounce up and down. cheers Dave ====
  15. Thank you both. Bit of trial and error coming up I reckon. Dave ====
  16. Hi there. I fitted a new seal a while ago but the tailgate has always sat too high. The profile of the rubber seal - a round section - is way too big. I see rarebits has closed down. Anyone any idea where I might get the correct profile seal from? Regards Dave Boswell
  17. Brakes have been overhauled/ replaced as necessary, leaks banished, and still they are worse than the other two cars. Silicone here we come... Dave ====
  18. I've had silicone in my herald for 14 years, and in a gt6 for 10 years. No problems. I have a TR4A that has dot 4 in. Leaked all over the place, stripping paint, and the brakes are the worst of the 3 cars. Guess what will be happening in the winter work schedule? Also I have some new track rod end boots that have disintegrated in a couple of years. Rubbish supplier. Dave ====
  19. DId you manage to get the pesky brakes to work? I've overhauled mine, but I have no faith that they actually work. One seems ok, one seems to have a life of its own. Any tips gratefully received. Regards Dave ====
  20. They are pretty useless. Do we know what is involved in converting to manual? A new backplate, and all the brake gubbins I guess. Dave ====
  21. Hello Mine are not working very well. My main query is how do I adjust them to a proper starting point? The drums have to be off to manually adjust the screws. I can obviously then adjust them so that the shoes are as far out as possible, but how do I then undo them accurately so that the drums will just turn freely? - the drums aren't on! Or do I adjust them so that the shoes are as far in as possible, and then let the handbrake do its self-adjusting work the next few times I use it? Regards Dave ====
  22. Thanks everybody. I reckon the 175s will do me. Cheers Dave ====
  23. Hi I have original 13" steel wheels and need some new tyres. I have seen recommendations elsewhere that 175/70's may be preferable to 155/70s. Anybody got any thoughts/recommendations? Regards Dave ====
