  1. Not fitted to Mk1 2L as said, but when I made a stainless-steel air box I also fitted stainless hoses. Wether it made any difference??. Regards Paul.
  2. Cleanliness is essential for a good job, using panel wipe and a tac cloth. Regards Paul.
  3. I use one of these in my Vitesse. https://revotec.com/product-category/electronic-fan-controllers/ Regards Paul
  4. I have a welding magnifier lens also known as a cheater lens in my welding mask, very useful as long as you remember to take your glasses off. Regards Paul.
  5. Had a problem in my Vitesse with a balance weight on front of prop shaft clipping the tunnel, fitting the rear gearbox mount upside down cured it. Problem started when I fitted a J type overdrive gearbox. Regards Paul.
  6. Have a sleeved cluster in my Vitesse gearbox, parts supplied by Mike Papworth number in courier, who was also very helpful with advice. Had two teeth break off third gear on the cluster which then wreck third gear on the main shaft. Regards Paul.
  7. Used to use NGK in my Mk1 2L Vitesse but switched to the Bosch three electrode ones as mentioned on here, the ones I bought do have an R suffix which hasn't caused a problem. Regards Paul.
  8. Have some BMW been written off by insurance companies after steering wheel was stolen, or is that just a Daily Mail story. Regards Paul.
  9. Have a selection of 18volt Makita tools, first one was bought with battery's and charger subsequent ones bought without, the ½in. impact driver is easily the one I use most. Also found the DeWalt ½in. to ¼hex very useful for screws. Regards Paul.
  10. Saw this on holiday, did I need it no did I want it yes. Extending ½in extending extension, will work as a wobbly or rigid extension. Regards Paul.
  11. Looks good, might be an idea to pinch. Regards Paul?
  12. I have a 3hp twin cylinder direct drive with a 100litre tank, it struggles with some tools and don't think I could use it with HVLP. The 13amp fuse blows sometimes on startup in cold weather and I should definitely have got one with a bigger tank, it all comes down to cost and space and the larger compressors might want three phase. As to welders I have a 150amp Butters gas mig which runs on a standard 13amp socket and I have found it more than adequate for any of the welding on my Vitesse, understand than some cheaper welders struggle at lower settings. Get yourself a very good quality reactive welding helmet and practice practice practice, also some very informative tube video's. All the best for your restoration. Paul.
  13. All tyres are marked with a date, when buying I always insist they are less than a year old, you don't know how they have been stored. Regards Paul.
  14. When I recovered my Vitesse steering wheel used some offcuts from a local upholsterer. Drew a line around the inner circumstance of the wheel to keep stitch line straight and clear adhesive to stop the cover moving on the wheel. Regards Paul
  15. When I had two teeth break of third gear on the cluster the one Mike Papworth supplied had been drilled and sleeved. He said that it was difficult to find someone to do a good job at a reasonable price, this was well pre COVID, doubt if things have improved. Regards Paul.
  16. Cheap tools often turn out to be the most expensive ones. Regards Paul
  17. I use a rachet crimp tool for the insulated terminals, only thing I have to remember is to put the terminal in the tool the right way around. Tool pointing away from me the right side of jaw crimps tighter, for wire, than left side for insulation also sides are shaped differently, can't say if all rachet crimpers are the same. As with all tools they are designed for right handed users so being left handed it feels wrong. Regards Paul
  18. As to Waxoyl, have moved to Bilt & Harmer products. Regards Paul.
  19. Sounds similar to the three rail J type overdrive box I have in my Mk1 2L Vitesse, mine has the fine input shaft as found in the single rail box. Regards Paul
  20. If 2L Vitesse, same basic gearbox in early Dolomite 1850, and isn't single rail very similar, same case etc. Regards Paul
  21. That looks in excellent condition. Regards Paul
  22. The stock answer to a complaint is to say no one else has complained. Regards Paul.
  23. Always understood an overdrive gearbox about 50KG, a bare six cylinder engine 150KG but might be wrong As to the two bolts cut a slot in the thread end to take a screwdriver, hold the nut still and rotate the bolt, then finally tighten with a spanner, the method I use. Regards Paul.
  24. Even buying new old stock you have to be careful as the packet can contain a mixture of old and newly manufactured gaskets. If they won't let you open to check walk away?. Regards Paul.
  25. I regularly drive my Vitesse while wearing size 12 walking boots, don't think a larger brake pedal would be a good idea. Regards Paul.
