  1. To make brackets from thicker steel strip I've cut part way through bent to shape and then welded the cut. As said above practice practice practice, a smaller local stockholder/fabricator will let me have a good sort through their offcuts for a donation to their tea and biscuit fund. Got some heavy odd shapes I've found useful to help shape parts. Regards Paul.
  2. Plenty of utube videos. Regards Paul
  3. Have used both 20 and 18 guage with 20 guage being a lot easier to shape for body repairs. Regards Paul
  4. Drive a Mk1 2L Vitesse and rear shock absorbers l have been told are correct have very little travel to fully compressed when at standard ride height. For good or bad l removed the top sleeve of the shock absorber and removed part of the rubber stop and welded the sleeve back on, been ok for a good few years. Regards Paul.
  5. Have inertia reel seat belts in my Vitesse convertible, Securon the ones with the adjustable retractor. Regards Paul.
  6. When you do get the broken remains to move l found it best to work it anticlockwise and clockwise moving it a little further anticlockwise each time until out. Best of luck. Regards Paul.
  7. eBay list glass fuel filters with either 6mm or 8mm connection, had one fitted in the boot on tank outlet for years. Moved it to under bonnet just before the carburetors earlier this year, then had restarting problems when engine was hot, moved it back to the boot problem solved. Moved it when fitting gates barricade fuel pipe, classic l should have left what was working alone, car Vitesse 2L. Regards Paul
  8. Aren't survival rates of soft tops higher than tin tops?. Regards Paul
  9. As you didn't mention them am l to assume you don't think children, pets, holidays etc. have a use. As to guns most civilised countries have very strict laws about their sale. Regards Paul
  10. An ICE vehicle does not emit pollution, it did not invent and build itself or drive itself about, people to that. Some people have children, pets holidays etc. and cars they drive, all of which cause pollution and environmental damage. Take responsibility for your actions and not blame a poor innocent ICE. Regards Paul.
  11. Also a Mk1 2L Vitesse driver, a convertible so I can enjoy the fresh? air and not be enclosed in a steel and glass cage. 😁😁😁 Regards Paul
  12. Had two teeth come off third gear on the cluster a good few years back, Vitesse 2L, and sourced a cluster and third gear from Mike Papworth. The third gear was NOS but cluster was refurbished with the needle roller bearing surface renewed by having sleeves inserted. As said a good few years ago and can only imagine the supply situation being worse. Regards Paul.
  13. Always turn stop start of on starting the car, have to do it on every restart. Think a hired Fiat I drove in Italy if you turned stop start off it stayed in that state untill manually turned on. Regards Paul.
  14. Convertible seat backs are thinner and more rounded at the top allowing about an extra three inches of leg room. If you have a Vitesse 6 parts manual with the 2L supplement at the back the text and picture will detail the change. If you look at Rimmer's website my believe is that what they list as Mk1 2L seats are convertible and the Mk2 2L are saloon, also fitted to early Mk1 2L convertibles. As said my believe after looking at the original parts manual, others might disagree, also would not be surprised if some came out of the factory with the wrong seats fitted. Regards Paul.
  15. Don't know about the Spitfire but front seat legroom in the Vitesse/Herald convertible is limited by the hood well which is why Triumph introduced different seats, during the run of the Mk1 2L, for saloon and convertible. Any alternative seats where the back is thicker or at a different angle could make them uncomfortable for the taller driver by reducing leg room. In my Vitesse Mk1 2L I refurbished the seats, made a world of difference. Regards Paul.
  16. Currently have the cills removed from my Vitesse, the cill to side rail tags are thin or broken, thinking of fitting new ones with JB Weld as welding them on would damage the external paint finish. Any thoughts, is this the best product for the job or are there better alternatives?. Regards Paul.
  17. Just had one led tube of a twin fitting fail, must be the tube as swopped them and fault stayed with the tube. Bought from Toolstation fitted end of 2020 so less than three years old. Regards Paul.
  18. My local Lidl have these back in stock price at £10.99 on the shelf but £6.99 at the till, since getting one some time ago haven't used a lead light when working on the Vitesse. Regards Paul.
  19. When I replaced the bezels on the Speedo in my Vitesse used closed cell neoprene cord to replace the degraded rubber seal. As Pete said it can be well stuck, cleaning the inside of the glass when off is very worthwhile. A large jubilee clip around the dial to support the bezel when leveraging the lugs should stop local distortion of the bezel. Regards Paul
  20. Had a similar problem on my Mk1 Vitesse recently, a new wire from the fuse box and I could get them both to sound intermittently. When I went to check the pencil in the steering wheel it fell apart, a new pencil solved the problem but while working on the circuit I added a relay. The new pencil was a very tight fit in the steering wheel and I ended up scrapping it down to fit, another quality part. Regards Paul.
  21. Bottom fixing in my Vitesse convertible. Regards Paul
  22. Not in my car, the hole being round the button will hold no matter it's orientation. The parts manual lists two different buttons to fit the upper dashmill board. Regards Paul.
  23. The panel in my Vitesse convertible is held in with button push clips like these. Regards Paul
  24. Was going to reply then read the word Saloon, but only two small bolts on the clamp need removing to try. Regards Paul.
  25. As above. A quick Google search indicates that a car exhaust temperature can exceed the spontaneous combustion point of brake fluid. Regards Paul.
