  1. Well I am soon to sell my Vitesse Convertible, much as I love it my wife dislikes it and wont even come out on a Sunday in it, so it has to go. ( The car not the wife) Its a close to concours example, nut and bolt body off restoration, so a high end sale I suppose. Does anyone know of decent Triumph Specialists in the North who could be interested? Also I may well sell privately, any ideas on good selling sites? E Bay I am a bit unsure of, Piston Heads doesn't seem quite right, Car and Classics looks ok??
  2. I do, but I assumed the garage would do that. They did rebuild the sender and it works for the moment but I know it will give up. Thank heavens for reserve thanks!!
  3. Hi My Vitesse Mk 2 fuel gauge didnt work and the garage diagnosed a sender problem. They sent off for a new one but this apparently didn't work either. They were told it a common problem ( Chinese part?) and advised getting a second hand unit and fitting that instead. Seems odd to me that a new part would be faulty, wondered if anyone had similar experience?
  4. Still broken, I'm overtaken by events and the car is due to go into storage very soon as I cant leave it outside, so I will just top up the tank and sort it later. I know, its a copout! But thanks for the advice, I've printed off the wiring diagram and the posts much appreciated.
  5. Thanks for these comments, I am away this week but will look at this as soon as possible on return. The fuel gauge that is, not Tony Iommi's fingers.
  6. Ah! We are back to fuel gauges! Thanks Aidan.
  7. There are 2 wires, one black, one green, both disappear into the loom, so I cant trace the earth to the body. I assume the green is earth (!) but if I ( or whoever chose green cable) get this wrong i.e. inadvertently connect feed straight to earth, what happens? Told you I was no mechanic.
  8. Good stuff guys! Will try this advice.
  9. The fuel gauge is at zero ; there is petrol in. I don't have a multimeter unfortunately.
  10. The fuel gauge in my Vitesse has suddenly packed up. I assume it can only be the gauge, the wiring in between or the sender? Not being a brilliant mechanic, I assume its best to start by testing the sender? Anyone know how I do this?
  11. Thanks Pete, your member is welcome to PM me if he (or she) decides to sell.
  12. Hi all, I am looking around for a Herald Convertible or similar, but as I live in the Frozen North beyond the White Wall, all of the cars for sale seem to be down South. Something to do with the economy perhaps, despite Osborne's Northern Powerhouse (cue cynical laugh) . So I went to see a Herald yesterday it was apparently "superb" etc etc and was tatty and quite frankly pretty bodged.I simply cannot spare the time to risk that again and lose a day travelling, does anyone know of companies that do inspections in the South? I wouldn't use AA RAC as they don't really understand our type of cars these days.I am perfectly capable of checking out the right car, but I'm afraid , once I arrive 300 miles later, the sellers have confused "patina" with "knackered"!!
  13. Thanks Guys I will check out these companies...
  14. Hi I just wondered what a rough cost was for a retrim on a Herald, including carpets and retrimming the seats? All faded and worn so a complete job. I can price parts but would need a professional to do the work.
