  1. Wayne - they are from a raptor 650 quad bike. Issue is most motorcycle carbs are steeply angled and will foul the bonnet (if you want to keep stock / no bulge bonnet as I do), we may have to alter the choke on these as they come in a pair on the raptor but only one is choked, we will see when she fires up - but floats on these mean they can be dead straight - we will have to mod the air filters slightly to fit as well
  2. Hi Wayne...nearly there. The chassis and bulkhead mods are done and the whole car is resprayed, engine is almost rebuilt, should get that and the gearbox in in the next month or so... here are some piccies of the mods to bulkhead, chassis and the strip down before painting - plus a few of the engine + 6 carbs :0)
  3. Richard. Thought you would like to see this. Cut made. Recognise the picture in the battery tray? :0) other picture was offering up the 6pot begore cutting. Rocker on, tested spit bonnet and it fitted!
  4. Richard that's fantastic. Priceless pictures and advice. I’ll post up pics if my progress! All the best. Mike
  5. Hi Richard - no rush whenever you can ... I see the avatar - small ! I really appreciate your help - Mike
  6. Hi Richard - that's very useful thanks ! I do have an OD box. I have not fitted the 2.0 yet but was planning to have the gearstick 7" back with a shortened (and straight not cranked) stick, and to shorten the handbrake lever but leaving the handbrake mechanism in the same place. That would mean that the 'hump' on the tunnel would also be 7" back, hence my concerns on the moulded carpets. I thought they would need to be 7" longer at the front to avoid a carpet gap ? If you have some pictures of the tunnel inside, and maybe the bulkhead mod before the engine was fitted that would be really helpful. Thanks in advance, Mike
  7. Thanks Pete - Newton's seem to be the one ... they already told me they can make the carpets without the holes for stick and brake levers - I'll give them a call tomorrow - ATB Mike
  8. Part 3 - putting a GT6 engine into a Mk3 Spitfire - anyone got tips on the tunnel housing inside ? I'm setting the engine back 7 inches. Also Carpets? I can buy a moulded set without the cutout for the gear stick (different position with my mod) but again need the tunnel shape to be much 7" longer
  9. Anyone got one for sale ? If so please message me your price and location ! If not any tips best place to buy ? Thanks ! Mike
  10. Howdy all anyone got any contact info for Stephen Attenborough ? I'd like to get in touch if poss on this topic
  11. So all - 2 l straight six Engine stripped down - gunked and steam cleaned today, getting the head skimmed and rebored 40 thou ... so soon I am going to have to drop it in. Anyone out there got piccies of a Mk3 Gitfire and the mod needed on the Spitfire bulkhead to drop the engine back 6-7 inches ? What did you do with the tunnel and carpets with the stick further back? Also best engine mount method ? Thanks all ! Mike
  12. John and Clive many thanks - priceless to get the inside info on this - don't want to do it twice !
  13. OK - Part 2 - I stripped the engine down yesterday, going to bore it out fit new oversize pistons, a reground camshaft + lifters, new shells, plus get the head skimmed. Any tips on anything else I should consider to eak out the best performance and make it as like new as possible ? Also tips on the best place to buy the bits from a quality and price perspective ? Cheers - Mike
  14. Richard - good to know and thanks for the additional info ! I'm committed now ! Mike
  15. Thanks Guys ... this is pretty much as I expected. I picked the engine up yesterday, stripping it down next week for a refurb, no going back now :0)
  16. Don't shoot me but I am going to drop a 2.0 straight six GT6 engine into my Mark 3 Spitfire. Tips on best way to do this with least disruption to rest of the car? I'd like to keep the original bonnet as is so outwardly normal looking Mk3. Radiator will have to move forward and slant for bonnet curvature ? Help !
