  1. It's a dream of mine to get a race licence and get involved in this! One day! I'll have to made do being behind the camera for now.
  2. Hi Sam, Welcome! That thing is gorgeous! Love the way it sits, and that little boot spoiler! Simon
  3. Pete - the gap between the head and the clip on the cable casing. Thanks for the advice, I'll twist and push and see how I get on!
  4. I didn't know where to put this, hope "General" is ok! Hey guys, While refitting the dials after changing my dash the speedo drive extended out from it's plastic casing, I managed to get it back in a little way but there's still a gap, see picture attached. It now doesn't seem to want to push back into the casing any further, has anyone come across this before? I'm hoping the answer isn't "get a new cable" because it looks like a right arse of a job! Thanks all, Simon
  5. Interested! My September Sundays are looking lovely and empty at the moment, for once! I wasn't happy I couldn't come to the last one. Simon
  6. Thanks guys, looks like I'll be taking a drill to the bumper once I gather the courage! The bumper isn't exactly concours condition anyway so no big loss if I screw it up! Simon
  7. Hi all, I managed to pick up a rear number plate lamp at a car boot sale for pennies the other day, one of these: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID005822 I prefer these over the two little bobble lights that are currently on my Spitfire, however the two stalks that come off the bottom of the lamp that fit into the bumper aren't wide enough apart to fit the holes where the current lights are. Have I picked up a rear lamp for another model, or do I need to get my drill out? (gulp!) Thanks, Simon
  8. Hi Balaks, I found mine on Facebook Marketplace, not the first place I thought of looking, I came across it by chance while bored one afternoon! Happy hunting, I find it weirdly enjoyable! Simon
  9. Always good to hear of good service these days, glad you got it sorted!
  10. I've bought a nice shiny rocker cover to replace my rather sorry looking one, I purchased the neoprene gasket (from the club shop) - would you recommend using a sealant with this gasket? If so which one? Sealants and lubricants and other such fluids not really my speciality. Thanks in advance! SImon
  11. Doug, I've found a good scroll through the results eventually turn up what you're looking for, it's actually quite good if you figure out the right words to put in! Simon
  12. Welcome! I recommend getting familiar with the forum search, most of the things I've come across on my Spitfire have already been asked and answered in detail! Simon.
  13. Hi all, is there a TSSC presence at this month's Sunday Scramble at Bicester Heritage? I notice we're mentioned on the info page for the event but I haven't seen anything mentioned on the TSSC website or in this here forum, about to buy my first pre-1990 ticket :-) Anyone going? Ta, Simon
  14. I do enjoy looking at all the stuff I don't really need, but really want! I was also quite happy to be at the top of the list of new members in the Courier! :-D Simon
  15. Hi all, Thanks so much for the advice! We tried pushing the front down with no success, and lifting the rear of the roof to get a different angle on the front bolts, but no. @rlubikey - yes, the nuts do indeed rattle around (so to speak) which I don't think helped the task at all. In the end I bought a length of 8mm threaded bar and cut two 3 inch bolts (too long in the end so I'll have to trim them at some point). I screwed these into the roof first, then fed the bolts through the holes in the windscreen frame, once I had finger tightened the bolts at the back I tightened a nut with a washer from the inside at the front. Nice and secure :-) I'm going to tackle the soft top myself, but I'll wait for warmer weather. Thanks again, Simon
  16. Hi all, The sun came out today! So I managed to get out and play for the first time! My car came fitted with a hard top, a frame for the soft top and the fabric top in a box, I have a couple of questions if someone would be so kind to help me... I've heard that fitting the roof to the frame can be a pretty difficult task, so I've contacted a couple of trimming companies in the area for a feel of prices. The two shops that have come back to me want between £400 and £500 to do this, which is way.... way over what I thought it was going to cost. So, doing it myself is back on the cards - unless anyone knows of any better value places in the Hampshire / Berkshire / Surrey areas? Or is that just how much it costs? If I am going to do it myself, is it really that difficult? Are there any instructions or useful resources I should know of? Secondly - I took the hard top off the car to enjoy it with no roof while I did some other bits, it came off just fine, but putting it back on proved difficult. The bolts that go through the top of the windscreen frame fit the roof fine, they screwed right in when going directly into the roof, however, when going through the frame (to attach the roof to the car) the bolts just don't screw in. They seem to reach the thread in the roof but they don't tighten, and they're very hard to get to line up with the holes in the roof. Am I missing something? The bolts are a bit miss-match, I'm planning on replacing them, but it was on just fine before! Apologies for the long post, I've attached a shot of the old girl with her top off for compensation...
  17. It was very nice, amazing to see how it was before! Stoneleigh was enjoyable, managed to pick up a few bits, and join TSSC officially!
  18. £185 show deal, picked up a lovely dark wood one! I couldn't resist....
  19. Thanks Colin! I was attracted by the colour scheme as I hadn't seen orange on black on a Spitfire before, the hardtop was a bonus too, especially for the 2 hour drive to get it home! Unfortunately the picture doesn't show up the scratches on the driver's side window, it does need replacing, although I haven't tried cleaning and polishing it properly yet, the windscreen's in good nick though!
  20. As promised, here is my '78 1500, picked it up last weekend and looking forward to much tinkering as well as driving!
  21. Thanks for answering my silly questions guys.
  22. Thanks Pete, Phone calls are difficult in working hours! Do you know if there will be presence at the spares day this weekend? I'm planning on popping along.
  23. I'm trying to become a paid-up member, but after filling in the form on the website (this one: https://www.tssc.org.uk/tssc/membership_form.asp?rate_ID=2) the next page that loads just says "Membership" at the top of the screen and nothing else. Not sure if this is by design - do I wait for an email? Nothing so far! Thanks, Simon
  24. Thanks Doug, I think I came across it off the back of a semi-related search and just started reading! Simon
