  1. Not to my knowledge, no. It’s been sat under a sheet in my garage for the past three months since I bought it. I thought it looked relatively recent too as the crystalline structure of the iron is clearly visible. Maybe somebody has given it a whack with a steel hammer to try and loosen the head? Might explain why none of the head nuts were torqued down when I came to take it off and the clutch retaining screws are all mangled. ?
  2. Cheers Pete. I was originally thinking over-tightening. I’ll have a look at the studs when I get around to extracting them later this week. Do you think using a head with this kind of damage is likely to cause any major problems? Aaron
  3. Evening all, I’ve removed the cylinder head from a spare 1500 engine I’ve had sat in the back of the garage and I’ve noticed this damage to the casting around one of the studs holes. Was just wondering if anybody else has had anything similar and whether or not it’s likely to cause any problems down the road (excuse the pun). I was thinking of using it as an exchange unit for a reconditioned head, but now guessing that it won’t be acceptable. Any thoughts? Aaron
  4. Cheers, Dave. Looks like you've just solved the mystery!
  5. Are you sure Dave? I thought the 1300TC only had a single water pipe and the left hand boss was machined to take the PCV valve; my manifold has never been machined.
  6. Thanks all, I think blasting is the way forward long term, but until I can divert the necessary pennies from the 'holiday' fund for a compressor, I'll have to give the Screwfix stuff a go. Aaron
  7. Hi all, Can anybody recommend a decent modern paint stripper that actually works? Since the controls were put in place surrounding the use of DCM strippers it's becoming increasingly difficult to find anything effective. I tried using a tin of Nitromors a year or so back and I'd have been better off using a pot of double-cream for all the good it did. It isn't for use on bodywork, just Hammerite-type stuff. Cheers, Aaron
  8. Is the Dolomite Sprint in Heage by any chance?
  9. Thanks chaps. I guess it'll have to remain a mystery for the time being! I'll be drilling, tapping and blanking the take-off anyway so not an issue. Aaron
  10. All of those I've seen before have the vacuum take-offs blanked off, if they're there at all. I was thinking it could possibly be from a US spec. car and be something to do with the complicated emissions control equipment.
  11. Hi all, I've recently purchased a Spitfire inlet manifold (311925 - see photo) from Ebay but it's slightly different to the ones I've seen before and in the usual parts diagrams, having the large vacuum take-off on top. Can anybody tell me which model this was likely to have come from and what the take-off was originally used for? Cheers, Aaron
