  1. As you say, eye watering, but if the quality is right, why not ? I'll ask to a friend of mine, who's a lathe' Master, how much it could cost to cut the groove in a set of skf (or equivalent) bearings, + cleaning them properly : it couldn't be far less than your price !
  2. Well, sorry to say that you are wrong, Pete : the "small chassis" gearbox bearings are far smaller than the ones in the Dolomite Sprint/Stag/2000/2500/TR2 to 6' gearbox. To be honest, it's not really surprising. So, we are here : apparently, no one here know where can be found good quality gearbox bearings for our small Triumphs
  3. I know, because I've rebuilt dozens of these gearboxes, that Dolomite Sprint/Stag/2000/2500/TR2 to 6 use the same main bearings, ie 58391 (I own no less, sometime more, than one example of each of these cars....) Unfortunatly, I can't compare the Spitfire/Herald bearings before Friday, when I'll be back in my garage.
  4. Yes it is, I've got all the related parts (spring, bracket, rods...). @NonMember, yes, the bell housing is integrated, as is the slave cylinder fitting.
  5. No gear change remote on this 'box unfortunatly Pete : the stamped number is "G", followed by a number, please see the pictures.
  6. Pete, I permanently have some 58391 bought from Chris in stock, shame that it seems impossible to find similar bearings for a "small" gearbox !
  7. You're right Pete, the circlip' groove is the main problem : these bearings (without the groove) are easy to find (Hofmann make them), but with the groove, that's another story, apparently.
  8. Hello guys, I would like to find quality bearings for my 3 and single rail gearboxes. Who can tell me from which supplier it is possible to buy something as good as the good old Hofmann (RHP) bearings ? Cheers !
  9. Hi Pete, thanks for this, I'll have a closer look asap.
  10. Using the "search" faciilities, I've found this subject, who bring an answer to my question : from which model of early Standard/Triumph could be coming the all alloy gearbox I've in my sheds. Thanks !
  11. Hello guys, thanks for your warm welcome. I'll try to post some photos, but not showing my 2 very first cars (TR7 and Spit MkIV) who are in rather poor state for the moment. I'd rather show you some of the others....
  12. Hello, Sorry in advance, my English is far from fantastic ! I'm glad to be a new member of this forum. I'm from France, close to the Belgium' borders, near a town called Valenciennes, and own several English classic cars, some since 1984 : the first one was a 1981 Triumph TR7 convertible (it was my first car), the second one was a Maline built 71' Spitfire Mk4, bought 6 months later. These 2 cars are still in my possession, sharing their stables with others toys. I hope to be able to bring some help if needed (I'm a mechanic). Cheers, Chris.
