  1. Snap! Well almost.... Just about to refit these brackets on the Midge, but I forgot to order new UNF bolts. There maybe metric bolts going in...
  2. I've been hoping for another ARCA door mirror, (Broke mine, hen's teeth apparently) so fitted Tex, matt black to suit my special. Available with either flat or convex glass. There are other makes out there, but I wanted black... https://www.texautomotive.com/classic_exterior_mirrors.html
  3. I'm rebuilding my Midge from the last nut and bolt... I am almost at the stage of refitting the steering rack, so I got it out of storage and thought it would be a good idea to give it the once over.... A quick visual showed that new TRE's are needed, also the rack boots are a bit suspect. Whilst pulling the boots off, it occurred to me that the inner rack had not moved, (I have usually been able to pull and push the rack back and forth easily). I have dismantled the rack and reassembled according to the w/s manual, but it is now still very notchy. Before I invest in a recon rack, is there anything that I might have missed? I did notice an extra shim under the steering rack spring where there is none shown on the parts list.... I say shim, but more like a thick washer.. My memory is not that clever, but I'm sure I fitted this rack as a recon item about 25 years ago...
  4. I fitted a pair of gas struts to a totally different application (horsebox upper upper ramp opening) and they came fully pressurised, however each strut had a bleed screw to reduce the pressure needed for the application. Obviously couldn't repressurise if overdone! I can't remember where I got them from, but there's a huge range of different specifications out there.
  5. The hook part also needs the plate that fits inside the door frame....
  6. There's one on ebay at the moment, says for TR2 / 3, but same for Heralds etc... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/An-original-Hub-Cap-Removal-Pry-Bar-Triumph-TR2-TR3/192865587268?hash=item2ce7af5044:g:ptcAAOSw6wxck6md
  7. I bought my filler neck hose for my Herald special (estate tank and filler neck) from Demon Tweeks. However it was 45 MMID at 84p per CM. There is a range of hoses with different sizes. All good, so far. https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/search/shop-by/q/fuel filler hose/
  8. That's a 6 d coin (tanner, half - bob...) D, pre decimal, P, post decimal... I'll get my anorak.
  9. Slight drift, but hopefully the bolts holding your trailing arm brackets didn't look like this... Found when stripping down my old Midge prior to complete rebuild!
  10. Many thanks everyone! I will be removing one or two leaves, as the Midge is considerably lighter. I did this when I originally built it it 1985, but between selling it 7 years ago and buying it back last year it has inherited a swing spring which I don't want.
  11. I have picked up an unknown used rear spring for the rebuild of my J. C. Midge. It has 11 leaves. Does anyone know what model it may have come off?
  12. Another vote for door mirrors. I managed to drop an Acro prop on the one on my Herald special...and have since discovered it to have been a rather nice Italian item... Hens teeth. I've had to fit a Tex mirror, not so nice. (the Acro missed the door completely..)
  13. I'll second that. There's a lot of used ones out there. I sold my 25l SIP for about £25 when I upgraded to a 100l jobbie. The old SIP one used to do most everything.

    Snow

1" of snow in the South East and it's the apocalypse...
  15. Still miss my old 1600... Black stripe every time.
  16. Got my seal from Baines. No problems with closing and a good seal.
  17. Just what I thought... but find another original o/s?
  18. Still on ebay.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-VITESSE-HERALD-NOS-PAIR-DOOR-GLASS-WEATHER-SEAL-NOT-REPRO/202557022839?hash=item2f2956e277%3Ag%3A9N0AAOSwKZ5bp-bz&LH_ItemCondition=3000
  19. The original seals are shaped to fit round the quarter light frame and I think are no longer available. There were a pair on ebay recently, collection only from the seller, about £50. I have just fitted the ones you are looking at, and yes the clips are sods... I also trimmed the new seal to fit the quarter light.
  20. This was 30 odd years ago. There was a cut out hole in the bonnet and the pipes poked out! I once had someone deposit a 2p piece down one, the needle stopped it going down into the bores... When parked up with a risk of rain, elasticated bicycle seat covers did a great job. I also recall that the car used to run very well in the rain, water injection? Happy days!
  21. I still miss the sound of my old Mk 111 Zodiac. 2.6 litre, Raymond Mays conversion with triple SU's and six branch exhaust manifold with non standard custom exhaust... No air filters, just beautiful cast and polished bell mouths. The intake sound complemented the exhaust sound!
