Not a dip stick sensor, but I believe the Rover P4 had a sump 'tank unit' like the fuel tank, whereby you could, with the press of a button, read either the fuel or oil level on one gauge.

I learnt to drive in one. I always remember the instructor pointing out how the front would rise in first gear as you lifted your foot off the clutch before releasing the handbrake. Other way round for reverse! 1965/6.

We are looking to up sticks from East Sussex to North Wales in the near future. I would need both my cars, Midge and Herald pick-up, transported to our new location. I have had a provisional quote of £648, but it is early days. (our house has just gone on the market and we have yet to find our ideal property up there.) Has anyone used a transport company and if so, any recommendations?

We have a local Transport Rally that I attend every year (Hellingly Festival of Transport). It's usually well attended with all the usual displays and stalls. Booked my Midge in (free) and have since ruptured my Achilles tendon.... This 2CV cabriolet caught my eye last year.

Like the door mirror, looks quite rare? I had an Italian one a bit like that, never found another after snapping the stem in the garage...

That's very similar to my Draper one. When I bought it, there should have been a levelling device included, but they were out of stock and I never chased it up. Worth getting possibly, but I've never missed it.. The only downside is that the spread of the front wheel supports don't quite fit between the Herald front wheels. But I've always managed somehow.

Just as a note, I had all the usual earth straps ( starter cables, as above), engine to chassis, battery to bulkhead. My let-down was between the epoxied bulkhead and the epoxied chassis. I took a leaf from my Midge earthing, where the body is ply and the battery earths to the gearbox... No starting problems there!

I have, for some time, had a problem starting the Pick-up. (Herald underpinnings with 1500 engine etc). Almost every time I went to start it, the starter would give all the indications of a flat battery. So, replaced solenoid with good used one from hoard.. Nope. fitted new live 12v cable from battery to solenoid and new cable from solenoid to starter... Nope Fitted new earth cable from battery to original body earth point... Nope Still persisted in struggling. After much thought, I moved the battery earth strap to a gearbox bellhousing stud. Problem solved! When I built the new bodywork and carried out the restoration of the rest, I had the whole tub sections blasted and epoxied. I suspect that this treatment effectively insulated the body from the chassis, negating proper continuity to the starter, but retaining earthing to the lesser circuits. Maybe? Anyway, starts first time, every time, now.

Of course, what I forgot, was having to run the gauntlet under the trees in Brighton Grand Parade when coming home after my late shift. Thousands of Starlings roosting in the trees there!

I got hit in the face by a Bumble bee when riding my motorbike back in the 70's. Open face helmet.... Never had a hit driving the Midge, but drove through an unseen deep puddle at night which cascaded over the windscreen and left me a bit damp...

I used DX73 on my doors. No boot on my pick-up, so can't advise on that.

Nice little Seat? 600 in that shot. I had a Fiat version back in the day, Suicide doors and sunshine roof. Classic cars seem few and far between in Spain. I only saw one rather nice Renault 5 during our entire week in Andalucia in 2019 (Jerez, Cadiz, Seville, Sanlucar, Tarifa.) Can't wait to go back. Unlike me, I only took one photo of a car! All the rest were horses... Well, it was the Feria del Caballo, Jerez de la Frontera. Had to keep SWMBO happy!

The usual indication of overheating, back in the day, was the smell of scalded components and the appearance of steam from various orifices. Those symptoms always gave me enough time to pull over and investigate! I never managed to wreck an engine. Gaskets, yes.....
