  1. Thanks John and Yorkshire spam, I've just found a complete list of Triumph engine numbers on line . The prefix DM applied to 1500cc Dolomites and if it had a ESS suffix it meant the engine was a factory reconditioned replacement probably under warranty. I can rest easy that my ebay purchase was ok ! Reg
  2. I've just bought a Triumph 1500 engine with a serial number DM35**ESS which I don't recognise . The main block also has cast in it STANPART 15L8. Anyone know if this really is a Spitfire 1500 engine ? Reg
  3. Thanks Pete and for everyone else's comments. I now favour the idea of putting the speakers in the kick boards. The wiring will be easier and perhaps better than potentially messing up the door cards!
  4. Ok thanks Johny. I just thought the hole in the door is just waiting for a speaker to be fitted.....if I can find best place to run the wires.
  5. Where is the best place to drill through door edge to connect to speakers fitted over the large circular hole in the door panel ? Perhaps the later Vitesse range had them fitted in the doors? Thanks Reg

    Judder in reverse gear

Thanks Nick, I'll give the mountings a closer look. Been busy with other things so havn't got back to the problem yet but now got lots of leads to try as soon as I can get back in the garage!

Wish I had joined this club three years ago... I could have kept you all busy on this forum with all the rebuild problems I encountered!! Thanks again Pete

    Judder in reverse gear

Good advice Adrian, the clutch was stuck on after three years of sitting in my garage so perhaps I should give it a bit longer perhaps it might settle down as you say. Cheers Reg

Thanks Pete, I reckon the clutch will have to come out !

    Judder in reverse gear

Pete, judder is only in reverse and occasional noise in starting off in first gear. This noise sounds similar to noise when the woodruff key sheared. Thinking about it it could be clutch related as the clutch was seized on and I cleared it by starting it in reverse and clearing it that way. I don't know history of the clutch as it was already fitted by previous owner. The diff is a recon unit.
  13. Hi I've finally got my Herald 13/60 on the road after a body off rebuild. On going into reverse there is a lot of shuddering. The woodruff pin thing in one of the half shafts sheared during the first drive to get the exhaust fitted properly. This was replaced and loctited in at the garage and I was advised to get a spare halfshaft . The car still makes some nasty noises on starting off from the rear end. I fitted a rebuilt back axle during rebuild and all wheel bearings, bushes etc have been replaced. Anyone any ideas about the shuddering in reverse ? Thanks Reg
  14. Thanks Colin, thats just the info I need. I guess I'll have a bit of welding now to do .
  15. Can anyone provide sketch or photo of the rear exhaust box mounting bracket(s) that should be on the chassis leg. Mine disappeared during the chassis refurb. I intend to fit the original pattern rear box and system. Thanks
