Thanks Badwolf, I have set myself a budget and won't go over it. The fees are 8%, plus 20% on that for VAT.

Pete, I would expect nothing less. I am a member of a few forums, one is for UK cycling which is at best caustic, another is a US based Gibson guitar site which is quite heavily moderated, so no banter allowed.... I guess the Yanks like to be censored, whilst us Brits tend to love to extract as much urine as possible? I bet I can still ask some bloody stupid questtions though....give me time..

IF I win it at the auction, (I have set myself a budget and won't exceed that, as I have an idea of costs to get it how I would like), I will need a few ideas on how best to remove YSoYD and Oil cooler and any possible pitfalls that may incur. My expected use is more as a weekend tourer and not a thrashy race machine, so I will not be looking to hammer the engine at all. I will be looking more towards reliability than anything else (famous last words?). I have not owned a Triumph myself, but I have always wanted one after my folks having a 13/60 when I was a kid, so I am pretty green when it comes to the quirks of owning one, although I do vividly remember the old man cursing at length under his breath most weekends, when trying to find an elusive rattle or other niggly issue......I am sure that is where I learnt most of my Anglo Saxon vocabulary from! I have had old British cars in the past (Mini, Viva, Hunter, MGB GT) and I am more than familiar with the usual oil leaks and general maintenance issues, such as roadside repairs and having to keep a modest, yet fully functional collection of tools (usually a half inch spanner, a pair of pliers and a hammer), in order to remain mobile. No doubt, IF i do make the purchase, I will be on here asking some bloody stupid questions.... Regards Dave

I am down there that weekend anyway, so I will take a punt and not get carried away. As long as it isn't rings causing the smoke, I can sort it myself. Getting a bit long in the tooth for full engine strip downs! The body seemed in fair shape, most of the work seems to be inside the cabin, which is pretty tired and shabby.

It is in need of some TLC, but I have seen reciepts for a plethora of work, including chassis welding/door skins/other repair panels etc. Its got brand new front brakes, including calipers and discs. The blue smoke is a worry, although it has also had a replacement engine in 2001, so not overly long ago. Maybe it hadn't been run for a while?

Just seen the advisory from the last MOT (2016) of blue smoke on acceration. Could be problematic?

Thanks Anglefire, the front brakes have been replaced very recently, calipers and discs. The engine, I havent seen running, but was replaced with a recon in 2001 apparentley. Could be a showstopper..... It has a leaky diff as well, like you say, factory optional extra....

Hi all, I am hoping to be a new owner very soon. I am looking at a Vitesse convertible, with a view to purchase by auction. I have looked at the car and its history and all seems ok, I would say its A2, so drivable, but needs TLC, which I going to give it. Any suggestions welcome! Cheers, Dave
