  1. Has anyone fitted the set of brackets a guy is selling on ebay for this, interested to know the size/spec of gas struts required?
  2. Already tried the spitfire graveyard and he has nothing in, my boot lid is an aftermarket and has the the letters drilled out slightly wonky, doesn't fit that well. I have seen the price of new which I thought was a bit toppy to say the least, there is one on eBay for £95 but needs a repair which at the moment looks my best bet.
  3. Has anyone got or know where I can locate a Spitfire mk3 bootlid please? Regards KB
  4. Hi All I am just getting my head around my new project which is now ensconced in my garage (although you can see that my garage does need severe tidy up before work commences!) It has a few issues and I am trying to work out a logical order in which to do things and perhaps pick a few brains whilst I plan the long road ahead, can see this will take most of the cold winter nights!. I have uploaded a few photos and from a view she looks fairly good, however, there has been a slight tap on the back which will need pulling out, the previous owner had a disagreement with a large plant pot on his driveway! This has caused the seams on the rear end to open up slightly and the dreaded rust has caught hold on lower inner wings etc. She has a sagging rear end, I am also aware that the front trunnions and track rod ends need need sorting/overhauling, I was thinking of undertaking the following 1. Change rear spring for swing type and change front anti roll bar, new shocks rear, new shocks and springs front, probably change all bushes to poly bushes whilst I am taking everything apart. Recommendations for shocks? 2. Replace trunnions and track rod ends, or consider the trunnion less kit from Canleys https://www.canleyclassics.com/trunnionless-front-suspension-kit/ Has anyone fitted a set of these or have any views? 3. Have rear pulled out, treat rust and try to straighten slight twist in boot lid (is this possible?) I was going to take the rear end issues to a local body shop to get them to pull the back out with a slide hammer. There are also some other localised rust spots shown but for now those can wait, the back end is my first concern. Any top tips or views welcomed!:-) Thanks K
  5. I am looking for a GT6 seat base or whole seat similar to those shown in the photos. Must be unripped/unrepaired. Thanks KB
  6. HI All Being a relative newbie to the scene can anyone tell me are these from a GT6 and if so what years and are these an original type cover? Thanks K
  7. The owner couldn't find the MOT and the mechanic/owner of the garage who has looked after it for many years lived down the road, so on his way home delivered it whilst I was there. He was a nice chap and was saying that although the MOT requirements had been dealt with there were things that should have been done which didn't fail the MOT as they were within tolerance, there were some advisories etc. His point was that even though it had an MOT the car could be improved and the owner was simply keeping it in MOT and not doing any more than he had to, probably down to cost.
  8. In all fairness the gentleman who was selling her was the first and only owner and he was blissfully unaware of the faults, apart from where he had reversed the car into the plant pot on the driveway. It was clear that there was old damage to the rear and I glanced up and saw a wooden trough with a chunk out, I said I think you may have reversed into that pot at some point, he laughed and said there is obviously no hiding anything from you!:-) The mechanic from the garage which has looked after the car for many years turned up to deliver the MOT cert and said that although the car has been MOT's there is still a lot to do. The has already had a full rebuild in the early 90's but I think he perhaps hasn't done much to her in the last few years just the bare minimum to get the car through the M.O.T so at first glance it looks very nice but on closer inspection needs a shed load doing. Someone has been messing around with scotch locks and there seem to be more switches than you can shake a stick at.
  9. Glad I went to look, now on my way back but it is more of a project than I thought, gladly with a price tag to match!:-)
  10. A mispelt homage to my favourite character on The Fast Show Rowley Birkin, used it years ago for a gaming and ebay account and it has kind of stuck with me.
  11. Well I now feel I am a fully paid up member of the TSSC having had my membership pack delivered!? I have been reading my fist copy of Courier which is a very professional magazine unlike other clubs I have been part of where most things are done on the back of a fag packet. I would just like to say what a jolly nice bunch you all are, I have been on the phone to Angie at The Club HQ who has been a wealth of knowledge and has helped me with a valuation, have already got a cracking potential deal on car insurance from Peter James Insurance should I buy a car I am looking at on Monday, no doubt reduced by being a member of the TSSC and everyone on this forum has been very welcoming, friendly and full of useful information. I have been a member of many car clubs and none have been this organised or friendly, I am proud to be a member thanks for having me!:-)
  12. I haven't seen it yet it's what we might say a slow burner, I have just had a photo valuation done via the club and it falls within my parameters for purchase, I will be going down to check it out on Monday, I have booked a trailer, sorted out an insurance quote via Peter James (What a cracking company they are!) and will see how we go. If it all goes well Monday I will post a photo up, keeping my cards close to my chest at this point!;-)
  13. I haven't seen it yet it's what we might say a slow burner, I am having a photo valuation and then will be going down to check it out early next week, it's whether at that point I gamble on taking a trailer or with me with the chance that I come back empty handed or then send a truck to collect it. I do agree though that I am up for the adventure, I am all for driving a car back but the wife keeps trying to convince me that it's not a good idea until serviced and checked over etc! Unless it values up on photos I may still be looking!
  14. I have had some quotes on moving a car from Devon to Chelmsford on Shiply which are coming out at about £325, seems a no brainer to me, can get it collected fully insured and delivered to my door for about £120 more than it would cost me to hire a trailer and do it myself!
  15. Have the option of a proper car trailer, so double axel and all four wheels on the trailer and strapped down. I have an XC60 AWD D5 so I think my mpg would be far better than that of a truck. Never thought of the comfort factor but it definately make sense!
  16. Although I am still looking for a car I have seen one and am wondering if I bought it how I would go about getting it home, (anything decent seems to be 350 miles from Essex!) What are peoples views/experience on towing a car trailer vs hiring a car transporter, I can hire a car trailer for £80 for two days whereas a self drive car transporter is £225, I used to drag a shed so am not bad a towing but personally think the car transporter would be worth the extra money?
  17. Thanks for the replies, I have been trawling the classifieds and also the TSSC Facebook page and other club Facebook pages for possible cars, missed out on a very nice Vitesse as it was already sold, this is about the fourth decent one I have been pipped to now! I am sure there are plenty more out there. Will keep you updated and hopefully can get along to a few meets to look at some cars!:-)
  18. I was looking for an essex area meeting but couldn't find any events, can someone point me in the right direction?
  19. Hi All Having recently semi-retired I am have been looking for a Herald Vitesse Convertible or possibly even a Spitfire and will be joining the TSSC I am based in Essex. I have been looking for a while so am in no rush to part with my hard earned cash. I would prefer to buy the best I can rather than a project as I still do some work so my time is limited to tinkering at the moment, If I go for the Vitesse I would potentially like to use it as a wedding car in due course. I have been looking at some Vitesse 6 but I read that the 1.6 engines are not as common as the 2.o versions and parts and upkeep could be an issue, I have seen a very nice one owner car which is up for sale at £10k, is this too much? It is in fairly good condition and will come with a years MOT, or should I keep looking for a 2.0? Any views from seasoned club members would be greatly appreciated to assist me in my search. Regards Kerry
