  2. Does anyone have a spare/surplus Mk 1 Vitesse girl that they are prepared to part with for a sensible price. I Have a Mk1 car with a Mk2 grille and would prefer to have the correct grille. Cheers, Bob.

  4. Hi, I have a MK1 Vitesse which has had a replacement bonnet from a MK2. Is the actual bonnet the same (apart from the grille) ? Is it a simple job to fit the correct grille, assuming I can find one?
  5. There are 2 different types of silicon gasket available. One flat the other for the original tin cover (I have one and it works fine). Bob
  6. It has been working ok for a few days, I am assuming that the "wire test" is to be done when the car is not starting? I then run the wire from pos battery to solenoid and if still does not work it means the solenoid is faulty? Bob
  7. I agree, since changing the exhaust it sounds better, accelerates better is more responsive and I think I am getting an extra 5 miles to the gallon. All in all well worth the expense, in fact I will probably saved myself money, nearly enough for my new wheels!!!! Happy lockdown to all Bob
  8. I had the same symptoms on my Vitesse 6, I took the heater switch off which was completely blocked with congealed sludge. Fitted new switch, job done, I now have a working heater ! Just in time for summer and lockdown!!! Bob
  9. Exhaust arrived and fitted (no middle box). Very happy with the result, after having deliberated about standard or semi sport I am glad to have chosen the standard. Would no longer having the (wrong) middle box improve the flow? It is probably my imagination but the car seems to run better now, and the tick over etc has changed probably requiring some minor car adjustment.
  10. No there is no clicking noise from the solenoid. I did buy a new solenoid before that I never fitted as it does not have a button on it. I have a brand new battery too.
  11. I am quite happy to refurb an old set of wheels. With so many cars having aftermarket wheels I would have thought that there would be loads of original 4.5" rims lying around. Maybe people are hanging on to them in case that want to revert to originality? I am sure some will come up eventually. Bob
  12. Checked everything as per the above advice. No joy. I had this problem last year and ended up putting a new ignition switch in. It was fine for ages then the problem started again. I just put the original switch back on, same problem. I started it on the solenoid and took it for a quick run down the road, less than a mile, came back turned off the engine and it then started on the key. I tried it several times and all seems ok!!!!!!! What difference can a short drive make that at least temporarily resolves the problem? I am baffled. Any more ideas? Cheers Bob. PS It was nice to actually have a drive even though it was a quick trip !

  14. Like some others my understanding of electrics is a bit lacking! When I turn the ignition to the first part the warning lights come on, when I turn the key the rest of the way....nothing, not even a click. With ignition left on it starts using the button on the solenoid no problem. My logic is therefore that the starter/solenoid and connections to the battery must be ok. Does that mean that the fault lies with the ignition switch? It started fine yesterday!!! Any ideas welcomed. Bob

  16. Hi, one pic shows the original wheel the second with the spitfire wheel. Both tyres are 155 , but the external measurement of the spitfire tyre is almost 1' more than the original. I can therefore only deduce that the original is 3.5" although my workshop manual says that vitas 1600 were fitted with 4.5" rims. I would prefer to re fit original style wheels, but 3.5: is just a bit too skinny!
  17. HI, I have an almost stock Vitesse 1600, except that it had Herald 3.5" rims when I bought it. I have since fitted 4.5" spitfire wheels but would really like the correct 4.5" steel wheels as would have been fitted originally. With so many cars sporting minilites and other types of aftermarket wheels I am hoping that someone has a set of 4 or 5 they would like to sell. Cana any one help? Cheers Bob
  18. HI, I have a 1966 Vitesse 1600 saloon. I have read on the TSSC site that there were 31,278 made compared to about 20,000 2 Litres, but that there are now far more 2 Lit models left than 1600's. Does any one know (or even care!) how many of the 31K were saloons and how many are still in existence? Cheers Bob. Hope you are all managing the lockdown !!!!
  19. Thanks for that, it makes sense now. My spring is hooked over the joint between parts 37 and 35 on the diagram. I will have another look and see if it is possible to connect it as per the diagram. Thanks Bob
  20. You may well be right, I will see when it arrives. I originally ordered through the Club shop, so it is made by Bell. However they did not have it in stock and so there was originally a 3 week wait, but coronavirus has put paid to the! I happened to see one on e.bay advertised by David Manners, for the same price and fee delivery and it was on the shelf, so I have ordered that.
  21. I can't believe that a bit of white plastic coated wire as an extension to the spring is original!! The throttle seems to work ok without the spring , and the end of the spring os hooked on to the linkage at its joint !
  22. I have ordered a replacement s/s exhaust for my 1966 Vitesse 1600. Whilst waiting for delivery !!!!! I decided to remove the existing one. I suspect it might be a mixture of bits. There is a small cherry bomb type silencer in the middle. The standard exhaust I have ordered does not have this, I suspect this might be an exhaust from a Spitfire, any ideas. Bob
  23. I am in the process of fitting a new exhaust, I took off the engine side panel to gain better access to the manifold nuts . I found the spring as in the photo on the end of which was the white wire which was hooked under the side panel. The other end is hooked onto the throttle linkage. It does not look as if it should be there. Does anyone else had a similar arrangement? Also on the side panel there is a small bit bolted to the inside with a cupped end, I have tried to take a pic, any ideas what this if for? Hope you are surviving the lockdown. Bob

I have been a looked/listened to another members car that has a standard stainless exhaust and that has a noticeably crisper sound than my original mild steel one, so that is what I have decided to go for. I think that the semi sport might be too noisy on a longer trip. BOb
